CBS News: The $634 MILLION dollar Obamacare website “needs a COMPLETE overhaul”

This is a pretty blistering report by CBS News on the rollout of Obamacare via the HHS website that cost $634 million to build. CBS News not only says it was ‘nothing short of disastrous’, but interviewed a computer database software expert who said he would be embarrassed had his company rolled out something like this. He said it’s not demand that’s killing the website, but rather it wasn’t designed well and looks like it wasn’t even beta tested. He said the website needs a complete overhaul. Great, how much more will that cost us?

In order to be hired by the regime led by o bammy, you must first past a test. If you score above an imbecile you will not be hired.

    • NYGino

In intelligence ranking you have idiot, then imbecile and then moron. Of course, as you point out badbad, idiots are the mainstay and imbeciles are also encouraged, provided they owe back taxes But, on occasion, morons are also hired if they contribute enough of other peoples money to the left or have some incriminating evidence on “The One”.

  • kayeellen

It’s NOT ESSENTIAL! And I refuse to pay for it!

  • RighteousCrow_JustCaws

KILL the BILL. As a Levin caller pointed out last week, with it’s tweaks and waivers, it is no longer is even the same legislation that the dems passed and SCOTUS upheld. And others have pointed out that the gov’t could buy insurance for every uninsured American with the $$ spent on Ubama[doesn’t]Care. How many more atrocities will we allow? LIBERTY AMENDMENTS!

  • sjmom

Another day another Obama adminstration failure. Supposedly its going to take months to fix the system but it sounds to me it would be better to scrap it and start over just like the law itself. And they want to fine people who don’t sign up??? Let’s fine the govt for the abject stupidity!

  • Conservator1

Wow $634 million on a worthless site. I wonder how much more it will cost when the so-called glitches are fixed? Perhaps that’s why Obama’s approval ratings are plummeting:

“Most Americans disapprove of the way Obama is handling his job, the poll suggests, with 53 percent unhappy with his performance and 37 percent approving of it.” BTW, notice the headline the AP ran with in an obvious lefty bias attempt hide Obama’s great decline.

    • Rosalie

I wonder if the 37% who approve are living in a desert under a rock?

    • badbadlibs

Isn’t that amazing! It’s the single reason we are being subjected to tyranny; MEDIA BIAS/LIES!

  • NYGino

If I’m not mistaken, the original estimate of the cost of the Obamacare website was around 98 million dollars. Now after they spent 634 million dollars the whole thing has to be scrapped and redone. These are the people who are going to be in charge of our health.

    • ApplePie101

Even $98 million is excessive. Whole agencies run on less than that. If you want an idea what websites cost in the real world, you can get a cost estimate here: I maxed it out and came up with $126,500 at the high end. Assume that there are hardware needs to accommodate volume, and add a couple million. You’re still far short of the $98 mil. already expended on this non-functional piece of garbage.

There’s some serious fraud going on here.

      • gomurr

And let’s not forget (speaking of fraud) the$70 plus million, missing from the IRS, ACA “slush fund”. They didn’t feel a need to keep track of such a piddly amount. Try that one when you file your taxes. Think they’ll go for it?

      • Marridge

Mr. Daryl Issa, please pick up the white courtesy phone……

    • Rosalie

And even with all that’s happening, we only have a couple of politicians trying to get rid of this mess.

  • palintologist

This blogger is “out there,” but every now and then, he hits it out of the park.

  • Tess Squint Lawrence

634 million….when we were told 93 mil was the price tag….where is the investigation to THAT?

    • ApplePie101

They just need another $634 million for something.

      • despicablelowlifes

$634M here, $634M there, pretty soon you’re talking about real money. They don’t give a crap, it’s not their money.

      • Marridge

        Testing. Oh wait……..

  • ArchAng3l

This is all going as planned.

The big victory for Obama right now is everyone who has insurance are now finding out that their premiums are skyrocketing.

Obama and Co. do NOT want “exchanges”…they want SINGLE PAYER…..poor AFA implementation and skyrocketing premiums are part of the plan to get there.

  • 1tootall

seems to me his election did NOT have this sort of abject failure. In fact, many were touting just how successful his team was using computers to target voters, and revoters. It did not have ANY failure and was cutting edge. I think this runs the same con as did Solyndra, and all the other scams to funnel our money to failures with little to no accountability. aka redistribution of wealth. This is a shadow of Soviet Russia when they could not get food to markets, goods for sale or clothing back in the 60s and 70s. It’s exactly what we can expect with our health care and THEY WON’T KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED!!!

  • ApplePie101

Let’s do it the government way, and have the redesign done by the same people who designed it wrong in the first place!

    • Rosalie

      LOL! It’s better than crying.

    • Galatiansch2vs20

I’m reminded of a company I used to work for. They got a new computer system for the department I was in. They kept trying to iron out the bugs for a long time. After I was no longer working there, I learned they had scrapped the new system they had spent so much time and money on for another new system.

  • Gtrjag

Do people really believe this Government can reduce the cost of healthcare when it just spent 634 million dollars developing a website that doesn’t even work?

    • Rosalie

What do they care? We’re the ones paying for it.

    • badbadlibs

Anyone that believes o bammy’s regime can reduce the cost of healthcare are certifiably insane.
The costs have sky rocketed! And the real bang hasn’t even hit. Starting in Jan. I have to come up with an extra 250.00 more a month to pay for o bammy’s vindictive lies.

      • Gtrjag

I’m paying the fine. I’d flee the country, but where would I go?

        • badbadlibs

I’ve heard (who knows the real truth from the liar democraps) the fine will be a whopping 10% of your income. So, on top of 10% of your income, if you get ill, God forbid, you have medical expenses. They’re getting us coming and going.

        • I’ve opted out. There are some medical need sharing organizations that are exempted within the PPACA itself. It isn’t a fit for everyone, but it is a great option. No penalties and a great experience!

      • Gary Dickson

You’re right, badbadlibs, an additional $3,000 a year out of your pocket to help the federal government degrade and destroy the health system in the U.S. is certifiably insane.

What’s even worse is that $3,000 a year is just a start. Just wait to see what happens a year from now, two years from now.

        • badbadlibs

Make that an additional $3,600 a year! The greedy democrats have found a way to rob hard working every day Americans. The dirty rats, every one of them.

  • DHardy

Obama is no better at having a Web Site created than he was having his Birth Records, School Records and SS # and Draft Cards created for him…it’s all as dumb and dysfunctional as he is

  • stage9

No, it doesn’t need an overhaul; it needs its web server shutdown indefinitely!

    • Marridge

      We need moles.

      • I think you mean hackers, but the programming is so bad, it’s committing it’s own denial-of-service attack!

  • In case you didn’t see this. Interesting interview by Neil Cavuto with John McAfee, founder of McAfee Anti-virus. This guy has fried some of his brain cells (and I’m sure he’s still using, from his behavior), but he is right about this!

  • Sentinel

The IRS will be all over that database business guy’s behind for what he said.
You can’t fix stupid. I guess the seizure of our freedom will be delayed temporarily.

  • lawngren

I’m so glad it’s called “OBAMA care”. It’s a fitting memorial to a worthless punk.

  • Galatiansch2vs20

The female ostrich and the creators of this system may have a lot in common. About the ostrich:

    ‘She treats her young harshly, as though they were not hers;
Her labor is in vain, without concern,
Because God deprived her of wisdom,
And did not endow her with understanding.’
    Job 39:16-17 NKJV

  • CGI Federal is the company that built this monstrosity: Anyone want to bet they’re another FOO (Friend of Obama)?

Turns out CGI Federal is a Canadian tech firm that has provided service to that country’s single-payer health care system! They originally estimated the cost at less than 98 million.

Digital Trends: We paid $634 million for the Obamacare sites and all we got was this lousy 404
“We, the taxpayers, seem to have forked up more than $634 million of the
federal purse to build the digital equivalent of a rock.”

And when things still go wrong, they simply throw “more money at the same people who caused the problem to fix the problem.”

    • Marridge

Turns out CGI was fired by Canadian authorities. Who was the idiot that hired these numbnuts?

    • Actually, CGI Federal, formerly American Management Systems, was a US gov contractor since the 70’s, bought by Canadian CGI group in 04.
As for “CGI Group was fired by Canadians” that’s not really telling the whole story. CGI Group is Canada’s largest IT services provider. They did lose one contract in Ontario out of hundreds. Odd to me that people are so focused on the one or two deals that didn’t work out for CGI Group and not the hundreds that did.

CGI Federal has also worked on many gov contracts under Bush and Obama since they were purchased in 04. I’m sure their overall track record was looked at by both Bush and Obama administrations before awarding them more contracts.

  • Conservative_Hippie

That’s what you get when the Web developer is Pelosi’s nephew! Just kidding, but hopefully you get my drift!

    • kong1967

Liar! It was Solyndra that wrote the program. Or was it GE?

Lol, obviously they didn’t follow the same procedures as a respectable software developer does to make a good product before it hits the shelves.

  • gomurr

Maybe they should have awarded the contract to build the site to an American firm.

  • KJ

Which Obama politically connected crony got that contract? I’m sure that the contract didn’t go to a REAL qualified major American corporation which could have gotten the job done competently and on time.

    • kong1967

Computer software is always on time restraints which can put the programmers in a squeeze. For companies trying to produce a profit for investors that’s understandable because they want the product on the shelves. But for government? It’s their own time line that they can move back….and they refuse.

  • kong1967

Pathetic. We are ordered to sign up and we are on a time limit, but they don’t even have it set up yet. Are they extending the time limit because it’s impossible for people to sign up? Nope. They shut down the government because they refuse to do that.

  • Peter Story

Good deal for CGI Federal; underbid for the contract, then explain that scope changes and unexpected load require more money.

  • Coming Apart

Will our healthcare be even this efficient?

    • Rachel

      hell no.

    • Dems4dead

What healthcare? There is no healthcare, only a high price.

    • Peter Antonocci

Oh for sure! Going to the doc will be just like DMV in a big city, efficient, fast and friendly! Well, except if you fill out something wrong on the papework, or need an ADDITIONAL form, (besides the 6 you have already filled out over the last hour) then it’s “Back of the line, please.” Obama has been sent here to do as much damage as possible, and, at that, he is doing a great job.

  • SCarolina

CBS, where have you been the last 5 years? Benghazi, Fast & Furious, the IRS….

  • culper355

It’s been “done on purpose” as the end-game is a single payer system, which is the very antithesis of a free republic.

  • This is one failure even the MSM couldn’t ignore!

    • satish kumar k

budy i have to talk with you

  • Yazz55

If this was a real business, the website and database creator would have been canned and probably sued for breach of contract. But, given that this is an obamessiah regime project, they’ll reward failure by throwing hundreds of millions more of taxpayer $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ at it. And it still probably won’t work properly. Thats because functioning properly has never been a stated goal.

This could become a poster child for why govt shouldn’t dabble in business.

  • spin43

But the demonrats will get plenty of campaign cash from the company involved in setting up this mess.

  • Rachel

3 YEARS and $650 million dollars…and they still can’t get it right? Effing imbeciles! We are being governed by the Keystone Kops. Except these incompetent clowns aren’t funny at all. We are being SO scammed. In the real world, these people would be in prison for embezzlement.

    • HCTUB

$650 million , I think your kind of low . The street organizer knows a lot about embezzlement , isn’t that a part of Chicago life .

  • NYGino

Who is behind this fiasco? Ex Solyndra executives?

    • HCTUB

Looks that way . It could be the real president , Valerie Jarrett .

  • Dems4dead

Simple fix< shut the damn thing down along with Obama and his lack of care!!!

  • Why would you ask a computer database expert about something like this? Such a person wouldn’t really be in a good position to comment intelligently…

  • Marciarita

This is nothing compared to the $24 BILLION that the S&P says the taxpayers lost over the shutdown. Perspective folks.

    • mina

And your point is? Still not good, is it?
