Robert Byrd was a white Democrat who was actually in the KKK and when he died a few years ago he was praised by Democrats everywhere, including Bill Clinton at his funeral. Obama even lauded him as an icon in the Senate.
But Republicans are never held to the same standard and in the video below CBS News goes after Republican Steve Scalise for speaking to a so-called white-supremacist group — almost 13 years ago:
Give me a break. One speaking event does not a pattern make. But that doesn’t stop CBS News from reporting this story as if Scalise were actually a White Supremacist or something. They even admit that he was known for speaking a lot back then but they can’t seem to give him the benefit of the doubt of not knowing it was a white supremacist group.
Look, I’m not really a fan of Scalise. But this report is unfair as it suggests to viewers that Scalise is hiding something and that he may be lying about not knowing it was a White Supremacist group.
It was ONE event. Not two. Not three. One event.
Unless CBS News can find more instances where he spoke at events like this, then there is really nothing to this story.
