CNN’s Alisyn Camerota pushed Giuliani this morning to call Donald Trump a liar over his claims that he saw thousands celebrating on TV in New Jersey after 9/11. Giuliani does think Trump has exaggerated the numbers, but suggests even in New York they had 30 or 40 celebrating the attacks on the twin towers:
Giuliani said he doesn’t believe there were thousands celebrating in New Jersey or else he would have likely heard about it as Mayor of NYC. But even still, he doesn’t want to say for sure it didn’t happen because he doesn’t know for sure, and therefore he doesn’t want to call Trump a liar over it.
Camerota clearly didn’t like that he was hedging and pushed him to call Trump a liar, but Giuliani refused, arguing that Trump should be the one to deal with this and if video proof comes out then it will vindicate him. If not, Giuliani said it won’t look good for him.
But that’s as far as he’d go, much to the chagrin of CNN.
There is audio going around of a woman calling into the Howard Stern show and telling him there were riots in Paterson, NJ after 9/11. She said her husband worked for Verizon and he had to be sent home because the riots were getting big. She never said ‘thousands’, but her claims suggest it was certainly more than a handful.
Who knows if she’s telling the truth. Take it for what it’s worth:
