UPDATE: VIDEO ADDED – David Letterman to retire in 2015….finally

I’ve been waiting for this day for some time now — well, every since I started watching the Late Late Show. I’ve become a big fan of Craig Ferguson and while I have no idea who they’d replace Letterman with, I’d hope it’d be Ferguson, who I think is genuinely funny.

Letterman on the other hand…well, it’s time for him to go:

NBC LOS ANGELES – After almost 35 years as part of the late night landscape, David Letterman has announced he will retire in 2015.

During a taping of “Late Show” Thursday, Letterman said that he informed CBS President Leslie Moonves that he will step down as host of the show next year, which coincides with the expiration of his current contract.

“The man who owns this network, Leslie Moonves, he and I have had a relationship for years and years and years, and we have had this conversation in the past, and we agreed that we would work together on this circumstance and the timing of this circumstance. And I phoned him just before the program, and I said ‘Leslie, it’s been great, you’ve been great, and the network has been great, but I’m retiring,'” said Letterman in a statement.

The exact of his exit from the late night landscape has yet to be announced.
