Alan Dershowitz definitely agrees that these new revelations about the leaked Comey memos need to be investigated to determine if Comey did something illegal. He states clearly that he feels Comey should be held to the same standard as he held Hillary Clinton.
But he doesn’t think people should be jumping to conclusions yet, including President Trump:
Dershowitz points out that by saying Comey committed an illegal act by leaking classified information, that Trump is now jumping to conclusions just like his critics have done to him:
President Trump is making the same mistake that his critics make…he’s rushing to judgment about whether something is illegal and second he’s trying to criminalize political differences. He doesn’t like Comey…but I’m not so sure that what he did was illegal…”
I should point out that at the end of that quote Dershowitz isn’t defending Comey, but simply pointing out that there could be other explanations and without an investigation we simply don’t know yet if he did anything illegal.
This becomes clear as you watch the rest of the clip above, which you should, as Lea Gabriel lays out how this could have gone down and not been illegal.
But Dershowitz’s point is clear, that Trump is now doing the very thing he vociferously complains about and accuses his critics of doing. It’s the very reason he calls them FAKE NEWS!
If Trump were put in a corner and forced to answer for his hypocrisy here, I have a feeling his response would simply be “well they did it first…”
