FLASHBACK 2011: Iraq withdrawal a “disaster”; Senior military leaders “enormously frustrated”

Back in Oct of 2011, General Jack Keane stated ‘unequivocally’ that senior military leaders were “enormously frustrated” at the risk we were taking with Iraq by withdrawing all of our troops. He laid out all the influence we were giving up by pulling out of Iraq and said we were putting at serious risk the blood and sacrifice we put into Iraq and all the gains both we and the Iraqi people had made.

He also explained why the Status of Forces agreement didn’t go through in 2011. He said ‘immunity’ was just a side issue, that the real reason we couldn’t get an agreement was because we had already started to pull away from Iraq in 2010 and they didn’t see us as a serious partner going forward.

Given what’s going on today, I thought this was something that should be brought back to the forefront.
