FLASHBACK: Unlike with race, here’s the political issue that Starbucks didn’t want ANYTHING to do with

Starbucks has been roundly mocked and ridiculed in popular culture and on social media for their “Race Together” campaign that would make baristas talk to their patrons about race in America. But there’s one political issue that they went out of their way to ignore, which was the right of their customers to bring a gun into their stores.

Watch below:

From Forbes:

In his letter, Schultz made it clear that these gun enthusiasts should hold their rallies elsewhere:

…”We’ve seen the “open carry” debate become increasingly uncivil and, in some cases, even threatening. Pro-gun activists have used our stores as a political stage for media events misleadingly called “Starbucks Appreciation Days” that disingenuously portray Starbucks as a champion of “open carry.” To be clear: we do not want these events in our stores.”

Schultz noted that gun control advocates “have also played a role in ratcheting up the rhetoric and friction, including soliciting and confronting our customers and partners.” One such confrontation took place on “Starbucks Appreciation Day” in Newtown, Conn., site of the Sandy Hook school massacre. The Newtown Starbucks closed early on that Friday “out of respect”, but not before clashes between gun enthusiasts, patrons and protesters.

When it was about guns, the CEO said they just didn’t want to be political. But when they’re pushing a racist narrative, they’re totally fine with it! Kinda coincidental huh?
