i agree but your generalizing. That was one case (possibly more). I also know that planned parenthood has helped out many of my friends find cheap ways to have safe sex. For example, free condoms, and cheap birth control. I would pay some of my taxes for poor people who perhaps cannot afford birth control to be able to buy it. I don't agree with abortion but i do believe in the way they offer birth control and condoms. Please stick to the subject as well huskerbob, I feel that these abducted women actually can blame other people for their situations. So next time you feel the need to start some philosophical rant in those last statements maybe you should instead read into what I am saying a little more. Oh and perhaps you should think of the child that will be born to a slave. It has nothing to do with the mother being punished with that baby, but instead the baby being punished living in that lifestyle with no way out. That is, if the newborn even lives that long.
Pro-Life, Pro-Choice, what a strange argument we find ourselves in. What human being isn't for life, and who doesn't want choice? The two parties are so entrenched in their rhetoric that both sides are blind. On the side of Pro-Choice, if a woman is raped and impregnated, how could anyone but her decide on the future of the child that grows inside of her. It's not about freedom over her body, it's over the very basic freedom of one's will, something the rape victim has already lost. And where the woman lost the prior inherent right of control over her body, this is all she's left with. If she decides to keep the baby, this is where all that government funding that goes into Planned Parenthood should go, into her medical treatment (about $7000 is the cost of delivering a baby) and counseling. But I agree that in the case of rape, the woman or girl should also be provided access to abortion.
So, can the two sides, with the most extreme positions handle the nuances? Abortion isn't a birth control option to side step the consequences of casual sex. It's a serious procedure. We wouldn't replace the kidney or liver of a habitual drunk, nor should we finance the slaughter of an innocent because of girlish indiscretions. Is there no room in the extreme ideologies to formulate a reasonable definition of when Abortion is a medical necessity and allow it, and when Abortion is a tragic shortcut for bad judgment and forbid it? If I hear another liberal talk about a woman's right to make a choice about her body reducing such a grave decision to a willy nilly entitlement, or if I hear of another evangelist taking justice into his own hands to kill a doctor or bomb a clinic, I'm going to scream!
Pro Life isn't extreme-afterall if I walked up and shot you I would be taken away and locked up forever-because I just killed you...same with destroying the individual life inside a woman...just because the child is growing inside a woman's body doesn't mean the child has no rights separate from the woman-someone somewhere must speak out for the voiceless, the helpless, the most innocent. In America, the courts speak for you when your blood cries out from the grave because you have been killed/murdered...these innocent ones are betrayed by their very own mothers.."And if we can accept that a mother can kill her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?"
Mother Theresa~
"these innocent ones are betrayed by their very own mothers"
This is why "Pro-Life" is labeled as one of the extremes in the argument. You've asserted a fallacy, a loaded statement of hyperbole. The error starts when you assume that the impregnated rape victim ever had the freedom of making a decision. The series of events commenced when they guy imposed his will on the girl. Now, if she can see past her current tragedy to envision the glory of motherhood, G_d bless her! She's more gracious and empowered than many, and certainly blessed with better perspective than myself. But society should not compound the initial deprivation of free will by a second, for such a society barely merits the introduction of a new and innocent child.
In short, the burden of guilt, not just for the rape, but for the possible abortion of the fetus rests upon the head and soul of the rapist. That's NOT extreme, but a logical conclusion of true culpability that leads to a more reasonable and moral policy for abortion than either the extreme liberal or extreme conservative offers.
Ira I completely agree with you. For someone to be raped and impregnated by a terrible situation that wasn't even her choice is one of the worst things that can happen to someone. Think of the resentment the woman would show for the child? constantly being reminded every day for at least nine months about what some monster put inside her. For those of you who believe in God, what if the devil came and impregnated a woman and she had to live every day knowing what was growing inside her? I think that if a couple or a one night stand situation occurred, then they shouldn't get an abortion. They decided to act like adults so they must bear the responsibilities of adults. It is funny how on that mtv show once the teen girl has the kid she is the happiest she has ever been. Bringing another being into this world is probably the most special feeling there is, but there is a fine line between abortion with consensual sex and rape.
Congratulations! My daughters married within one year of one another and have given us 4 grandchildren total in the last two years...3 boys and 1 beautiful granddaughter!!
lol i know i am going to get some of you going here but when glenn decided to play devils advocate with lila rose she didn't answer his question? I agree that the planned parenthood people should notify the authorities but if they don't go to get abortions from people actually qualified to do so won't they just start performing abortions themselves? Or the girl goes through her pregnancy and the baby gets found in a dumpster... I feel that instead of going after planned parenthood this lady should allocate her resources to better things such as stopping the trafficking of girls.
