John Bolton said he was very surprised to find out that Trump had announced his new position as National Security Advisor in his first interview since the announcement.
Watch below:
Martha got down to the nitty gritty when she asked him what he thought about Trump congratulating Putin on his sham election – as opposed to the hawkish things he’s said before on Russia, he downplayed what Trump did, saying that he’s congratulated all sorts of people. Hmm.
He also slammed the leaks from the Trump administration, saying that it severely undermined the administration when “some munchkin” leaked to the press. Is he saying the leaker is Greg Gutfeld?!?!
For the rest of the interview, Bolton actually refuses to say much, and passes on many of the questions. I’ll be very interesting to see if Trump listens to the guy who disagrees with him often.
Here’s some reaction:
Congratulations to new National Security Advisor John Bolton. @AmbJohnBolton is a highly respected American patriot who will bring decades of experience to our national security team. With him as Nat Sec Adv, @POTUS will continue to keep America strong and secure.

President Trump could not have made a better choice for National Security Advisor than @AmbJohnBolton. He is excellent and will serve our country well.

Bolton news is consistent with the theory I floated on @JonahRemnant podcast that Trump wants a team of TV stars. This is not a slight against my friends @AmbJohnBolton @larry_kudlow et al. But I don’t think it’s a coincidence he’s looking for TV-ready combatants.

I have to say I'm thrilled with the appointment of @AmbJohnBolton he is brilliant and has always been a gentleman (Clarence Thomas wrote so glowing of him when they were in college). A good man and will do a great job.

Interviewed tonight on @FoxNews, @AmbJohnBolton said his job is to make sure Pres Trump has the "full range of options" when making decisions, and then, that his decisions are implemented, whether he agrees with them or not.

@AmbJohnBolton as NSA is an excellent choice, for Trump and the country.

John Bolton just gave an excellent interview on Fox News with @marthamaccallum. He knows how to handle himself. Neither media nor bureaucracy will get the better of him. @AmbJohnBolton

Democrats are freaking out:
John Bolton once suggested Russian hack of DNC may have been a false flag operation by Obama Admin. He joins Joe diGenova, another Fox contributor, who thinks the FBI conspired to frame the President. Glad to see @POTUS surrounding himself with rational thinkers. Heaven help us.

The sad thing is, the people who will be killed by John Bolton's choices / policies are the young men and women in the military, many of whose parents were Trump supporters.
— Roland Scahill (@rolandscahill) March 23, 2018
I hope they realize the choice they made by supporting Trump.
John Bolton was part of the effort to mislead the US into the disastrous Iraq war and has supported military action against North Korea and Iran. He was too extreme to be confirmed as UN ambassador in 2005 and is absolutely the wrong person to be national security advisor now.

#Bolton! God help us now. Count the hours. @AmbJohnBolton

Here’s another interview where he covered the Russian question:
I' bet the leaks will stop now that H. R. McMaster has been replaced. @AmbJohnBolton on @POTUS congratulating Vladimir Putin on election victory: "You say things to be courtesy in diplomatic context. What I think was outrageous was the leak of the notes." pic.twitter.com/TZt5fUWpIA
