One of the U.S. servicemen who stopped a certain terrorist massacre has been identified as Alex Skarlatos:

Alek Skarlatos, a 22-year-old member of the U.S. National Guard from Oregon, said his friend, who is also in the military, had been injured while he grappled with the gunman. They eventually got the attacker under control, Norman said.

“I just got back from Afghanistan last month, and this was my vacation from Afghanistan,” Skarlatos said.

More from Heavy.com:

Skarlatos, who is from Roseburg, Oregon, was on personal leave from the Oregon National Guard, vacationing with his best friend Spencer Stone, according to NR Today.  According to the cache of a video released on LiveLeak, which has since been removed, Skarlatos and a friend from the Air Force were on some “R and R” in Europe when a terrorist with an AK, pistol, and knife boarded their train. Skarlatos had just gotten back last month from Afghanistan, according to Stuff.co.nz.

According to KVAL, a spokesperson for the Oregon Military Department said the two men reverted to their military training and save countless lives. Skarlatos called his parents, Emmanuel and Karen Skarlatos, immediately after the man was subdued, NR Today reported. They rushed the gunman when his clip jammed, Karen Skarlatos told NR Today.

And further on:

One of the two U.S. military service members who subdued the gunman was injured. Reports now say the injured person was Skarlatos’ friend, not yet named. The Pentagon has said the service member did not have life-threatening injuries, but French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said one American was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to KDRV.

God bless them all for what they did to save so many lives.
