Here’s WHY Trump cancelled the summit with Kim Jong Un

CNN’s Jeff Zeleny reports on what actually led to Trump cancelling the N. Korean denuclearization summit this morning.

Watch:

“Worked out” was what Zeleny said that was cut off at the end of the video.

Zeleny is reporting that the US became very worried about the summit in the last 36 hours.

What CNN’s been told is that officials in the Trump administration hadn’t been able to get in touch with officials in N. Korea, officials they had been speaking with up until now.

Thus the Trump administration believed that N. Korea was serious about going through with the summit.

The last thing they wanted to happen was for Trump to fly to the summit and be ‘stood up’ and embarrassed by Kim Jong Un.

So this morning Trump decided himself to cancel the summit.

CNN adds that it was because of the threatening language with the Vice President. However it was far more than that, as US officials simply didn’t believe that N. Korea was substantively ready to negotiate. Kim’s regime seemed far more concerned about logistics of the summit in Singapore, according to Zeleny, and the details of what would would happen in the meeting simply hadn’t been worked out.

This gels with all the other reports I’ve been reading about on why Trump nixed the summit.

It sounds to me like Trump made the right decision here.
