I predict that despite what the real numbers show us about a very weak and struggling economy, the Obama administration will tout the unemployment rate dropping to 8.1% as a huge victory of a recovering economy, despite it being due to more people being dropped from the labor force:

CBS NEWS - U.S. employers pulled back on hiring in April for the second straight month, a sobering reminder that the economy remains weak. The unemployment rate fell to 8.1 percent, but only because more people gave up looking for work.

The Labor Department said Friday that the economy added just 115,000 jobs in April. That’s below March’s upwardly revised 154,000 jobs and far fewer than the pace from earlier this year.

The unemployment rate has fallen a full percentage point since August to a three-year low. But last month’s decline was not due to job growth. The government only counts people as unemployed if they are actively looking for work.

In April, the percentage of adults working or looking for work fell to the lowest level in more than 30 years.

Employers added an average of 252,000 jobs per month from December through February, a burst of hiring that raised hopes the economy would accelerate. But job gains have averaged only 135,000 in the two months since then.

The slowdown will heighten fears that high gas prices and sluggish income growth are weighing on the broader economy.

I might have to do another "Current Event" in my business class to explain to these geniuses how the unemployment rate is really calculated. I can't count on anyone else telling the truth.

As Rush has repeatedly warned his listeners for quite some time now, the unemployment number will be sitting at close to 8% or under just in time for the election, no matter what reality is. The absolute lie of it all makes me sick.

I will never understand how the government comes up with the unemployment figure. At the rate this government counts the unemployed, if the unemployment rate goes down to 5% we will be in a depression with literally millions more people out of work. It's come to the point where we actually can't afford a lower unemployment rate because so many people are dropping out of the work force. I really hope people remember this come November. If we don't change things soon, we will have a lower unemployment rate and nobody working at all.

More people umemployed yet the unemployment rate goes down. We are officially in Obama's world: Heads he wins, tails you lose...and 2+2=5

Obama is launching his "Forward" campaign on Karl Marx's birthday. There's some transparency for ya' right? Pure socialism, right out front, and very plain to everyone but hollowheads, many of whom think socialism would be a good thing.

Is O' a double-down dunce? Yes. Are US voters? We'll soon see won't we?

I saw this posted somewhere else, but I think it really sums up what you're saying.

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.

It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”

Jimmy Carter brought us a new metric called the misery index, Obama has managed to turn the misery index into the good old days.

32 years ago Carter was voted out and Reagan was voted in. Let's hope Barry is voted out and Mitt is voted in.

Rush is right. Barry's term is the 2nd term of Jimmy Carter, with high gas prices instead of long gas lines, and odd/even days and all the rest of that ....

This is exactly what many of us here on this site have been predicting for many months now. The unemployment rate will continue to drop by 0.1%/month till it reaches less than 7.5% by the election (while the U6 number is still 14.5% ).

In what other universe can the number of employed go down, the number of unemployed go up, and still the unemployment rate goes down? Why aren't the Republicans screaming out loud about Obama being happy that we have more and more people dropping out of the employment ranks.

By now, everyone should easily be aware that this is just a political manipulation to get re-elected. People cannot truly be that stupid to put this Bozo back in office.

Ah, but people are that stupid. Not folks like us here, but all the great masses who don't have a clue about what really goes on in Washington. They will see dropping unemployment numbers and think they better give Obama another term to keep up the good work. It's hard to imagine, but we are facing a bunch of people that stupid.

I've seen claims that there are 100 million working-age people in this country that don't have a job. If that is anywhere close to being true, I don't think the voting public will buy the BS.

Nukeman60

Yeah, the number of people eligible for the work force above the age of 16 is 88 million. You would think that they all would vote NObama, but the problem is Obama wants each and every one of them to think they are the few remaining jobless people and any day now they, too, will get a job (or government aide). Let's hope they're not all Julias and don't fall for it.

I'm honestly surprised that they admit the lower "unemployment number" is due entirely to people leaving the work force and not any kind of economic improvement. This report is bad in every way possible, perhaps they finally realize how much of a disaster Obamanomics is?
