Israel at wits’ end with Obama’s refusal to put down red lines on Iran’s nuclear program

Apparently Netanyahu and the American ambassador to Israel got into a heated argument at a meeting in late August over the Obama administration’s weak position on stopping Iran’s nuclear program. According to the article, Netanyahu is at his wits’ end over Obama’s refusal to communicate a strong and convincing message to Iran.

Read below:

THE ATLANTIC – Rep. Mike Rogers, the Michigan Republican who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, says that his much-discussed meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem late last month did, in fact, devolve into an sharp confrontation between Netanyahu and the American ambassador to Israel, the former National Security Council official (and former Obama campaign Jewish liaison), Dan Shapiro.

Rogers told a Michigan radio interviewer earlier this week that he had not previously witnessed such a high-level confrontation, and he described Israeli leaders as being at “wits’ end” over what they see as President Obama’s unwillingness to provide them with his “red lines” in the effort to stop Iran’s nuclear program. He also said that neither the Israelis nor the Iranians believe that Obama would use force to stop the nuclear program. (UPDATE: Rogers said as well he believes the Israelis will “probably” bomb Iran if they don’t get clearer red lines from the U.S.)

Rogers description of the meeting directly contradicts repeated Administration assertions that there is “no daylight” on the Iran issue with the Israeli government. Shortly after the meeting took place, Israeli press reports appeared suggesting that Netanyahu and Shapiro had engaged in an argument, but Shapiro soon dismissed those reports, calling them “silly” and saying, “The published account of that meeting did not reflect what actually occurred in the meeting. The conversations were entirely friendly and professional.”

Rogers, speaking to WJR radio host Frank Beckmann, painted a very different picture. He said the meeting, originally scheduled to be a discussion of intelligence and technical issues between himself and the prime minister, spun out of control when Netanyahu began lambasting Shapiro over the Administration’s Iran policy. When Beckmann asked Rogers to describe the tenor of the meeting, he said: “Very tense. Some very sharp… exchanges and it was very, very clear the Israelis had lost their patience with the (Obama) Administration.” He went on, “There was no doubt. You could not walk out of that meeting and think that they had not lost their patience with this Administration.”

Rogers said Israeli frustration grows from what they see — and he sees — as a refusal by the Obama Administration to outline an endgame: “(I)t was very clear the overarching policy has been frustrating mainly because I think it’s not very clear. What we walked out of that meeting knowing is that the Administration was trying to defend itself.” By the end, he said, there was a “sharp exchange between the Administration’s representative there, our ambassador there, and Mr. Netanyahu, which was unusual to say the least, but I thought at the end of the day maybe productive.”

And there’s much more at the Atlantic, including what Rogers thinks based on the meeting as to when Israel will strike Iran.

    And didn’t we hear recently that the regime has communicated through back channels to Iran that the US won’t intervene in the event of an Israeli strike?

    • Spartan4Palin

      Yes, an Ambassador was with Ban Kim Moon in Iran, recently.

    Anyone think that when Obama said I will have more flexibility when he is re elected when talking to the Russians meant? Obama doesn’t give a damn about Netanyahu or Israel.

    • mark1955

      “Obama doesn’t give a damn about Netanyahu,or Israel”. Or the United States either!

      • You might even say that he detests the US and Israel. And for his supposed “Christianity” he does not celebrate Christmas. And when asked why their family doesn’t celebrate Christmas, he did not give some reply like “we want to honor our Lord without the exchange of gifts”, NO, his reply was “we want to set limits” for our children. And that’s why they have taken 16 vacations at least, and fly off to Hawaii for Christmas? People need to get a clue that he is a muslim liar, who hates the Jews and Christians as well. And if you need proof, watch what he does in his second term if he is re-elected. I am thankful that I’m a Christian and am in God’s hands, and I believe that my Savior is coming soon. But whether or not He does, my faith will not waiver in God, who is in control of all things.

    Whaaaat? Are you saying the Obama-appointed ambassador would LIE??? Are you saying that Debbie WS would LIE about the President’s strong position on Jerusalem and Iran??

    Scoop, you gotta be kidding me! If we can’t trust BHO, who CAN we trust???

    And the Jewish Americans had quite a few representatives sitting and clapping at the DNC convention last night, just like sheep to the slaughter.

      Great link, sd.

  • I have to say, that if somebody had “painted” me a picture of current affairs involving this administrations behaviors in relation to Israel, Iran, and the whole “booing God” at the dnc, I would have thought they were trying to sell me a work of fiction; one where these scenarios were heavily laced with over the top ideas and actions in order to convey a more subtle idea of the importance of our support of Israel and the ideas of freedom of religion. When my grandchildren take U.S history in high school, I hope they are able to come to me in order to ask: “Grandpa, what was it like to live in a time that reads like a Joel Rosenburg novel?”

      If they are able to ask that question they will have found them fortunate to have been schooled at home.

    ‘US CIA chief Petraeus is sent to cool Israeli ire’

    • sDee

      So, the soldier they kicked aside gets sent in to pull their asses out of the box canyon the arrogantly marched themselves into?

      • mark1955

        I wouldn’t be giving Petraeus too much credit. He might have been the architect of the surge,which gave us temporary momentum,but he was also picked by George W. Bush after Tommy Franks,because of his ‘ Winning the Hearts and Minds’ strategy,instead of Obliterating the enemy,that longterm has gotten us in to the mess we are in today. Petraeus is also more of a lefty and tied in with Obama then anyone thinks. His wife went to work for Obama in the new consumer bureau that was formed as a result of Dodd/Frank,before Petraeus himself was hired as CIA Director. He also several month’s ago,was marveling over the intelligience agencies ability to spy on American citizen’s,through devices that will be required to be put into computers,television sets etc. I’m sorry,but if Petraeus is working for Obama,Israel should not trust him.

          Barack Obama – Narcissist or Merely Narcissistic?

          Go to link for entire article

          I. Upbringing and Childhood
          Obama’s early life was decidedly chaotic and replete with traumatic and mentally bruising dislocations. Mixed-race marriages were even less common then. His parents went through a divorce when he was an infant (two years old). Obama saw his father only once again, before he died in a car accident. Then, his mother re-married and Obama had to relocate to Indonesia: a foreign land with a radically foreign culture, to be raised by a step-father. At the age of ten, he was whisked off to live with his maternal (white) grandparents. He saw his mother only intermittently in the following few years and then she vanished from his life in 1979. She died of cancer in 1995.
          Pathological narcissism is a reaction to prolonged abuse and trauma in early childhood or early adolescence. The source of the abuse or trauma is immaterial: the perpetrators could be dysfunctional or absent parents, teachers, other adults, or peers.
          II. Behavior Patterns
          The narcissist:
          * Feels grandiose and self-important (e.g., exaggerates accomplishments, talents, skills, contacts, and personality traits to the point of lying, demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements);
          * Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequaled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion;
          * Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special or unique, or high-status people (or institutions);
          * Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation – or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious (Narcissistic Supply);
          * Feels entitled. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her unreasonable expectations for special and favorable priority treatment;
          * Is “inter-personally exploitative”, i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends;
          * Devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with, acknowledge, or accept the feelings, needs, preferences, priorities, and choices of others;
          * Constantly envious of others and seeks to hurt or destroy the objects of his or her frustration. Suffers from persecutory (paranoid) delusions as he or she believes that they feel the same about him or her and are likely to act similarly;
          * Behaves arrogantly and haughtily. Feels superior, omnipotent, omniscient, invincible, immune, “above the law”, and omnipresent (magical thinking). Rages when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted by people he or she considers inferior to him or her and unworthy.
          Narcissism is a defense mechanism whose role is to deflect hurt and trauma from the victim’s “True Self” into a “False Self” which is omnipotent, invulnerable, and omniscient. This False Self is then used by the narcissist to garner narcissistic supply from his human environment. Narcissistic supply is any form of attention, both positive and negative and it is instrumental in the regulation of the narcissist’s labile sense of self-worth.
          Perhaps the most immediately evident trait of patients with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is their vulnerability to criticism and disagreement. Subject to negative input, real or imagined, even to a mild rebuke, a constructive suggestion, or an offer to help, they feel injured, humiliated and empty and they react with disdain (devaluation), rage, and defiance.
          From my book “Malignant Self Love – Narcissism Revisited”:
          “To avoid such intolerable pain, some patients with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) socially withdraw and feign false modesty and humility to mask their underlying grandiosity. Dysthymic and depressive disorders are common reactions to isolation and feelings of shame and inadequacy.”
          Due to their lack of empathy, disregard for others, exploitativeness, sense of entitlement, and constant need for attention (narcissistic supply), narcissists are rarely able to maintain functional and healthy interpersonal relationships.
          Many narcissists are over-achievers and ambitious. Some of them are even talented and skilled. But they are incapable of team work because they cannot tolerate setbacks. They are easily frustrated and demoralized and are unable to cope with disagreement and criticism. Though some narcissists have meteoric and inspiring careers, in the long-run, all of them find it difficult to maintain long-term professional achievements and the respect and appreciation of their peers. The narcissist’s fantastic grandiosity, frequently coupled with a hypo-manic mood, is typically incommensurate with his or her real accomplishments (the “grandiosity gap”).
          An important distinction is between cerebral and somatic narcissists. The cerebrals derive their Narcissistic Supply from their intelligence or academic achievements and the somatics derive their Narcissistic Supply from their physique, exercise, physical or sexual prowess and romantic or physical “conquests”.
          Another crucial division within the ranks of patients with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is between the classic variety (those who meet five of the nine diagnostic criteria included in the DSM), and the compensatory kind (their narcissism compensates for deep-set feelings of inferiority and lack of self-worth).
          Obama displays the following behaviors, which are among the hallmarks of pathological narcissism:
          * Subtly misrepresents facts and expediently and opportunistically shifts positions, views, opinions, and “ideals” (e.g., about campaign finance, re-districting). These flip-flops do not cause him overt distress and are ego-syntonic (he feels justified in acting this way). Alternatively, reuses to commit to a standpoint and, in the process, evidences a lack of empathy.
          Ignores data that conflict with his fantasy world, or with his inflated and grandiose self-image. This has to do with magical thinking. Obama already sees himself as president because he is firmly convinced that his dreams, thoughts, and wishes affect reality. Additionally, he denies the gap between his fantasies and his modest or limited real-life achievements (for instance, in 12 years of academic career, he hasn’t published a single scholarly paper or book).
          – Feels that he is above the law, incl. and especially his own laws.
          – Talks about himself in the 3rd person singular or uses the regal “we” and craves to be the exclusive center of attention, even adulation
          – Have a messianic-cosmic vision of himself and his life and his “mission”.
          – Sets ever more complex rules in a convoluted world of grandiose fantasies with its own language (jargon)
          – Displays false modesty and unctuous “folksiness” but unable to sustain these behaviors (the persona, or mask) for long. It slips and the true Obama is revealed: haughty, aloof, distant, and disdainful of simple folk and their lives.
          – Sublimates aggression and holds grudges.
          – Behaves as an eternal adolescent (e.g., his choice of language, youthful image he projects, demands indulgence and feels entitled to special treatment, even though his objective accomplishments do not justify it).

  • Bibi needs to give it up. He’s not going to get anything positive out of Obama, especially if he wins re-election. If he wins, Bibi should be warning his country that the US (Obama Regime) will not only turn it’s back on the State of Israel, but possibly even turn on Israel, and join forces with their enemies. They either need to do that, or step into the UFC octagon.

    • sDee

      I take this all as posturing and positioning – to what end I wish I knew. Hussein is outmathced, outmaneuvered and outwitted.

    No offense to Israel, but they better have their own back this time around. Fuel the jets boys and get ready to go solo.

      Yes – but they’ve always had to have their own back. They’ve only ever been held back, and blackmailed into conceding gains made during unprovoked wars, by so-called allies. Doubt there any illusions left, after decades of arab propaganda have softened the West into an easy cowardice.

  • I hope Bibi realizes that dear leader has no interest in aiding or helping Israel, unless Israel was over run with muslim brotherhood. I hope also that Bibi realizes that many American citizens and this resident loves and backs Israel.

                He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
                I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
                Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
                He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
                Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
                Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
                He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
                With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

                Psalm 91:1-7, 15,16

                The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
                He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
                He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
                Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
                Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
                Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

                And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

                  It’s been the “Butt” of all the good jokes and I take it all in stride.I read you are having some computer issues? What kind do you have or want? Do you buy the equipment you need at Walmart,Best Buy or Radio Shack? I just finished talking to the person handling my accounts when I am deployed and they are sending you a gift card but I have to know what store? So cough up the details and I will get it in the mail. Do you use a PO box or the street address? And you can’t say NO. No is not an option.

                • GB, you are a blessing to me, but I am saying no my dear. I got on the computer’s butt and told it off. It’s working better now lol. Seriously, you don’t have to do that. I got some help from some of our friends, and he told me what to look for. We’ve cleaned out the vent and fan, and will get on the powerbox as needed, but now, I think it was mainly just dust clogging it up.
                  Lord you are the sweetest guy.
                  You God knows where with a sore highknee worried about me and my puter. 🙂 I can’t tell you right now how glad I am to hear from you though. I’ll save it for when you’re back. God Bless you sweet GB. Be well and have a safe trip home.

                • I don’t know if this will get to you or not, but I’m missing you. I don’t know if you’re back yet, and it’s been a breath of fresh air to see your last couple of comments, eventhough the news these days is so frustrating and horrible.
                  I do miss being silly with my greenberet, and even though I have others who stick up for me, no one does it quite like you 🙂
                  I hope you’re healing well and hope you’re safe. God Bless my sweet friend. ((((())))s. PS, my cousin’s son is being re deployed at the end of the month 🙁 Let your boys know I pray for them too. Not a day goes by I don’t think and pray for you and pray for them too.
                  Love Duckie

                • I don’t know if you will get this one or not myGB, I didn’t want to post it on the later one. I just hope I’m not bombarding you with stuff you don’t want or need to hear. It’s 2 am and I don’t always make the most brilliant decisions when I’m exausted, but after reading what you said earlier- I couldn’t and probably still can’t say what I really feel or how to make you smile. I’m sad because I know you have so little to smile about now. I’ve had you on my mind ever since this morning my dear friend. This is for you, from Duckie this afternoon:

                  Praying for a Friend

                  She prays for one whom she does not know.
                  The one who fights for her;
                  not his name, his face, nor where he is
                  but her prayers are never deterred.

                  She loves the one who fights for her.
                  He’s as a son, brother and friend;
                  he sacrifices so much with his brothers
                  so she prays for them all without end.

                  Beyond the miles she wonders.
                  What he may be going through;
                  his thoughts are in her heart now
                  but she knows not what to do.

                  He can’t know this side of heaven
                  what he has done for her.
                  A life, a family and freedom,
                  while her prayers for him always stirred.

                  God Bless her dear friend soldier.
                  Together again with the others;
                  his hope, his life is that he may go,
                  and once more fight alongside his brothers.

                  She can’t know this side of heaven
                  a job of such sacrifice.
                  A life, a family, not yet for him,
                  her prayers she hopes would suffice.

                  She prays for peace to fill his mind.
                  The one who is hurt within;
                  not just in body, but in his heart as well,
                  she prays for God’s best for him.

                  She knows she can’t be with him.
                  In this life to comfort her friend;
                  but all he hopes for, she does too,
                  as she kneels and prays without end.

                  Her friend, her soldier, she knows not.
                  She remains grateful, blessed and loved;
                  because of the life he’s chosen for,
                  tears fall for him as she prays to the Lord above.

                  Duckie,you are the best.This is beautiful.You never bombard me.I look forward to every post you make.I want to read the story you finished the other night.Will scoop let you post it here for all of us to read? I’m doing fine so please don’t worry about me.I had unresolved issues to deal with and I feel a sense of peace after going to church,talking to a few of the guys still over there and my Company Commander.

                  This poem you wrote has settled my soul and I will treasure it forever.

                • I just came from church, and our pastor was on fire today. He’s 92 and still preaching strong. I am SO glad that you’re feeling a little bit better today. WFM was wondering about you and I shared your other comment with him, as I knew he could relate to you better, you guys being brothers in another sense. While I know I can never share that kind of bond with you or him or the others, and I don’t completely know what you’re going through, I am always here and that poem I wrote yesterday is everything that was and is in me. I am blessed by you and I’m grateful that I can even help in such a small way.
                  I’d love to have you read my story sometime, but I don’t know how to post a document like that on here. I shared it with a few of our family (we really are a family) on our facebook page. I’m nervous because well, it took over a year to write and now that it’s finished, I don’t want folks to think it’s stupid 😉 Some day I’ll find a way to send it to you. You bless me mysweetGreenBeret.

    The endgame for Obama is the destruction of Israel.

    • 12grace

      Yes, obama wants to destroy Israel and he wants to enslave America and make us the servants of One World Gov’t.

    What people expect b.o. to make a decision? It takes at least two years, more if Valerie Jarrett, CIC, is on vacation.

  • Regardless of Obama’s position, I am disappointed with Bibi’s refusal to take action. He came in years ago with a swagger and I thought he would stop the Iranian madness. He had a chance while Bush was still in office and he hesitated…and hesitated…and hesitated. Every day that goes by makes it more difficult. Once Iran goes nuclear, God help us all.
    By the way, nobody talks about it but we actually have a military treaty with Taiwan. If China starts something over there, we are committed to their defense. China is starting to throw their weight around in the South China Sea.
    We now have four potential crises in the next Presidential cycle…
    1) Middle East…war
    2) Europe….financial meltdown
    3) China…economic and military threat
    4) US…our financial mess here at home
    Rah…Rah…Rah at the conventions.Boy Oh Boy!

      What we don’t know is what classified actions/inactions the Obama administration may be threatening Israel with if they do act before the election.

      You can be sure that the Israelis have been studying this crisis from every possible angle. The failure of the Obama administration to extend US backing has most likely complicated and limited Israel’s options. Nevertheless, you can be equally sure that they will do what must be done given the dire position they are in.

      Given the choice between angering the Obama administration, and a nuclear Iran…

      Of course, Israel also has to take the political ramifications of action before the Nov. election into account. They must make sure that whatever actions they need to take will not aid Obama’s reelection. Once Obama is assured of four more years he will be free to fully implement his anti-Israel/pro-Islamic agenda.

  • Obama knows that the laying down of a red line means the start of the “ticking clock” to “strike time” for the Israeli’s and so will not put the “line in the sand” as a way of avoiding hostilities.
