“It’s federally-run healthcare” -Dave Brat on why he doesn’t support O’Care replacement draft

Rep. Dave Brat was asked today by reporters if he supports the current Obamacare draft, and he was quick to answer “no no no no no!”

He explains below:

Brat explains that the current Obamacare draft creates a new entitlement system with the use of refundable tax-credits, noting that our current entitlements are already bankrupt and won’t be here for our kids.

He also says we’re not heading toward a free-market system where you can see any prices.

I wish the video didn’t cut off so short but it’s pretty clear his biggest problem with the bill are the tax-credits. If that’s a permanent solution to Obamacare, then I wholly agree with him. If it were something meant to transition people out of Obamacare and into the free market, then I could live with it for a couple of years.

But if it’s the former, then he’s right. It becomes another entitlement where the feds are paying for our healthcare. The only healthcare that the feds should really be paying for outright are those of our Veterans, and that should be done with vouchers in a free market system. The rest of our healthcare entitlements like Medicare and Medicaid need serious reforms if they are going to become sustainable – if that’s even possible. And if we can transition those into better private systems, then we should do that.
