If you haven’t heard yet, Donald Trump just blamed George W. Bush for the fall of the twin towers on 9/11. Here’s a quick reminder:
Well Jeb Bush responded quickly on Twitter:
How pathetic for @realdonaldtrump to criticize the president for 9/11. We were attacked & my brother kept us safe.
— Jeb Bush (@JebBush) October 16, 2015
This is one of those rare times I’m forced to agree with Jeb here.
And for those of you arguing that Trump ‘just stated a fact’, well you can’t ignore the context of what he said. Trump made it about heart and competence by saying:
‘OK, I think I have a bigger heart than all of them,’ he said. ‘I think I’m much more competent than all of them.’
And the very next thing out of his mouth is:
‘When you talk about George Bush – I mean, say what you want, the World Trade Center came down during his time.’
Ruhle jumped in, saying, ‘Hold on! You can’t blame George Bush for that.’
‘He was president, OK?’ Trump responded. ‘Blame him or don’t blame him, but he was president. The World Trade Center came down during his reign.’
So he is saying that Bush is indifferent and incompetent and because of that the twin towers fell on 9/11. Context matters.
