Iconic and brilliant comedian Jon Lovitz took on the LGBTQ social justice warrior mob over one very dumb question – should transgender characters ONLY be portrayed by transgender actors?
No, of course not, that’s stupid.
But you can’t say that in public without being attacked these days. Luckily, Jon Lovitz don’t give a damn.
I’m sorry you feel that way. That has never entered my mind. That “message” is beyond my imagination. Were you upset about Jeffrey Tambor? He won an Emmy for his role. And cis actor? How many labels are necessary????? https://t.co/mqaPGtgJVf

Apparently this debate has been going on for a while.
Yes we were against his casting. We want to be the ones to tell our stories, especially when every performance of a cis person playing a trans person has not reflected our reality.

It’s not passing over trans people. It’s called hedging your bet with movie stars.. people who have a track record of selling tickets. https://t.co/1qMtCAc1Bm

Maybe they will cast trans people in the movie. Have you seen it yet?????? https://t.co/Ah86F03YtU

How do you feel about Louis Anderson playing a woman (not trans) on the show “Baskets”?
— Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) July 5, 2018
Is that harmful to women? Or is that a casting choice for the part?
It’s called acting. It’s not real.
FYI.. he won an Emmy for it. https://t.co/uoA34ZbUiS
Like Laurence Olivier as Hamlet?

Or “White Chicks” with the Wayons Brothers?
Make up is incredible these days. If they can pull it off, great!
It’s called acting! It’s not real. https://t.co/2MKpmWk3mW
So, you’d rather see a man play a former woman than a woman play a trans man.
— Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) July 5, 2018
Ok... that’s a casting choice.
And your choice.
The people making the movie have made a difference casting choice. https://t.co/uoA34ZbUiS
Can you stop calling them “trans people?”
— Jon Lovitz (@realjonlovitz) July 11, 2018
They’re people. https://t.co/DaKFFC9jvo
Good for Lovitz for sticking to his position – I’m pretty sure in a couple of years it will be illegal to say such awful terrible things like “maybe it’s OK for a normal person to portray a transgender person in a movie.” I mean you’re basically Hitler at that point.
Also, “The Critic” was an awesome show.
