Answering a question by Greta, Karl Rove went after Sarah Palin tonight as thin-skinned after she accused him of trying to sabotage her by him speculating on her running for president. He says if she doesn’t want to be speculated about then she needs to end speculation by announcing she isn’t running for president. Otherwise she needs a thicker skin:

One of the top 5 reasons I can’t stand Hannity is that he always has Rove on his show, and I’m willing to bet that if Rove were actually in the studio, Hannity would be on his knees the whole time.

      • B-Funk

I hate that it’s so, but it is. Hannity has blinders on for all things with an “(R)” before it. When people call him on it, he always says something about being a registered conservative… meaningless without external action.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking him, really. I just don’t rely on him for a truly conservative point of view.

        • Anonymous

You guys are right about Hannity and Rove.

      • Anonymous

        I don’t think that’s fair to Sean.

Look, in my opinion, one of the biggest mistakes conservatives make is buying into the notion that they have to “play fair”. This deluded idea that they will somehow be respected if they prove they’re non-partisan. They’re always the people who always have to see things from “both sides”. When we talk about anybody being thin-skinned, Sean Hannity falls into that category because it’s obvious it bothers him to be accused of being a rigid, dreaded, “ideologue”. So he has liberals on his show in what I consider a sorry attempt to prove something. And they always make mince meat out of the poor guy.

Did you watch it last night? He had Kirsten Powers on with some female conservative I’ve never heard of and who obviously has little TV experience. It was embarrassing.

As far as Rove goes? Sean may not have a much of a choice. Rove is one of Fox News’ most prominent contributors and Sean may have to have him on. And a nightly show like Hannity must be a booker’s nightmare. Judging by the Great American Panel, they probably take whatever talking head they can get.

        • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo Ozzie

“And they always make mince meat out of the poor guy.”

Yep— he’s one of the weakest TV hosts for conservatives….always yapping talking points and little capacity to work outside of those constraints. I will give him credit for his radio show. He does a much much better job on the radio, but that could be because he doesn’t have to think like in a debate/discussion.

Rove may have to be on…..but the incessant buttkissing is completely unnecessary.

I totally agree. After what Rove did to Christine O’Donnell you would think Sean would get a clue but he hasn’t. He still treats Rove as if he’s this impartial “analyst” slaying truth to power. Bite me.

And before anyone rags on Christine O’Donnell: Karl Rove trashed her on national television the night she won the Republican primary for the United States Senate seat in Delaware. Do you get that? She had just won the primary. She WAS the Republicans candidate for Senate. And Karl Rove goes on Hannity and trashes her so bad that even Hannity was shocked. I love Sean but he’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Even he knew what was happening so that should tell you how bad it was.

The fact that O’Donnell turned out to be a bad candidate doesn’t change the fact that Rove didn’t care if the Republicans won. And he doesn’t care now.

Rove is a fraud and I just love how Palin brings out all the werewolves in the GOP. There’s something about Palin that separates the wheat from the chaff that allows all to know who is really conservative and for the people and who isn’t. Karl Rove is GOP country club Establishment all over! Can’t wait when Palin gets in and takes his designs to get Jeb Bush his turn in 2016 to the woodshed! Palin 2012, Accept no Substitutes!

    • Anonymous

And maybe that’s Palin’s real role. I’d like to see her on a panel with Rove, telling Rove that he and Bush ran the Republican brand down so far that they created the Dem super-majorities and Obama. Rove is the last one to be telling the Republicans how to do anything.

  • Anonymous

The more I listen to him the less I like him. No wonder Bush was hated so much with a backstabber like Rove on your team.

    • Anonymous

      Bingo!

He just can’t stand what she’s doing because it RUINS his strategies. He may be an ‘architect’ but he only has so many tools with which to orchestrate a campaign.

He’s used to having leverage over players in the field. He’s showing that SP is getting under his skin.

Ann Coulter used to get mad at liberals during interviews who would step on her punch lines by interrupting, it takes a lot of practice, but ‘turd blossom’ is an expert at stepping on other peoples stategies.

I’ll wait for SP’s anouncement, she doesn’t need all the things Karl listed, it’s Karl’s candidate that needs SP to declare her intentions. She is holding the Republican primary hostage from him.

  • http://www.solitudeholdings.com/blog1/ Dan C

Sarah never mentioned Karl’s name in the SarahPac statement. So why is Rove obsessed with her? He is the one with thin skin apparently.

Dude. Seriously. When are people going to stop giving this bald-headed manitee-RINO a platform to spew his BS? I’m sick to DEATH of hearing him. I’m sick to DEATH of hearing ABOUT him. He is a two-headed snake. Completely untrustworthy. First, he’ll criticize the left, then he’ll launch a completely unprovoked, unjustified attack on the Right and True Conservatives. Rove is no Conservative. Mark Levin has it right: there are fiscal issues, social issues and political issues; most things in life fall under one of those headings, or even more than one. If you’re not Conservative in all 3, you’re not Conservative. You’re just “conservative” in one area. Rove is no political Conservative, and continually shows it, every time he opens his blowhole. Its amazing how George Bush was such a nice man, and yet the people that surrounded him are showing themselves as being bottom-of-the-barrel, scum-of-the-earth, CHEAP PUNKS. If you want to serve your country (and you were apparently too gutless to do it through military service), follow this advice:

Rove just has sour grapes because sarah doesn’t want him in her camp, because he stinks of the bush administration, which many conservatives criticise and to be honest this isn’t the first time he has made negative comments about her . And she is right about him speculating in the media. He wants speculation over a date because if he is wrong and she doesn’t declare on that date more and more people will think she isn’t running ,then he can say she is harming other candidates by drawing attention from them. All those media talking heads who had palin derangement syndrome can then wax lyrical that she is taking advantage of her supporters and isn’t a ‘real’ candidate.
If she declares after that date, I think he believes all that negative talk will harm her campaign. Both he and frank luntz seriously annoy me. Luntz making out there ‘isn’t room’ for sarah now because Michelle Bachmann has taken the tea party and the female candidate spot. What is this musical chairs? Apart from anything else, while I like Michelle Bachmann I don’t think she has a hope of winning the nomination or becoming president .The media have done such excellent work at harming her ,to the extent they were even prepared to use homophobic remarks about her husband. There is not a level they will not go down too. The media have done this in a matter of weeks, sarah palin endured it for years and actually got STRONGER. She is the john wayne of american politics.

I just think sarah palin appeals to the regular man and woman in middle america and has so much charisma.I also think she is a bit more moderate (or has become subtlely a bit more moderate) on certain issues than the media have painted her,and I think certain people will be in for a shock when she debates president Obama.Which in my view will help her more with independents than Bachmann. That is why I just don’t take much notice of these polls, I have more faith in the american people that they will see what I see with sarah palin and see she is truly an exceptional person and candidate and you are lucky to have her. Even if she doesn’t run or doesn’t win ,her message is so important I can’t see how her bus tours ,speaking to regular folks isn’t good for america.

Gee Rove, you go after everyone not named Romney…what’s that about? Are you so progressive that you can’t even pretend anymore?

Well, looks like your tactics are backfiring. Perry overtakes the lead – nearly 30% now which is a huge psychological barrier for the voters and if Palin gets in, things will get even more interesting. Meanwhile, your guy Romney is sinking in the polls… like a rock. No one wants him – well, I take that back, only progressives want him, and they will try to set him up as the strawman like they did McCain.

We are watching, we will know if NH suddenly creates all sorts of new Republicans in the primary – and it won’t work this time. Throw the old models out Rove, the tea party is in charge now. We won’t let them give us the mechanical strawman this time, we wont find ourselves in the position to have to vote between bad and worse. We will be watching each States primary results and we will NOT allow another progressive in there, so help us God.

Karl Rove wrote a book called Courage and Consequence last year. It’s a pretty good read if you’re into politics. Rove recalls a lot of famous stories about himself, and it’s fascinating to read them from his perspective.

In the book, Rove admits that one of the biggest mistakes the Bush Administration made was in not answering their critics. One thing George W. Bush had in common with Ronald Reagan (about the only thing) was a reverence for the Office of the President of The United States. Bush felt it was beneath the dignity of the office to respond to critics, so he was very reluctant to do so. Rove, as his chief political adviser, had a more practical political strategy for not responding to obvious lies and misinformation: he felt a response would give them more attention. Rove admits that was a huge miscalculation and if he had to it over again he would do it differently. By not responding, the demonization of George W. Bush was set in the narrative.

This narrative about Palin is pretty much all her critics have left, and it applies to her supporters so it’s a great weapon. She has a thin skin. We’re all a bunch of thin skinned deluded fanbots.

Rove should read his own book for an answer as to why Palin won’t let him and his ilk set the narrative.

I think Fox News is beginning to slip in their attempts to provide relevant facts and information. I don’t see any purpose for segments such as this non-issue spot with Rove—it provided nothing of value; and, through their programs using ‘panels’ that continuously include Beckel or Juan Williams or Kirstin Powers, as if these folks are really knowledgeable about the issues, Fox is serving-up way too much canned vocal diarrhea, in which meaningful ‘facts’ or relevant information are becoming harder to find in all the ‘talk-overs’ and yelling and BS. Actually, I get the relevant news and information right here at TRS through posts and comments.

This was intentional on Rove’s part to promote the meme that she is thinned skin [shouted it 3 times]. He makes it a point to tactically harm any Tea Party Republican as well.

Greta had asked him why he felt it was that the slightest mention of Gov. Sarah Palin set the parallel worlds of political punditry and media mouthpieces into an instant tailspin.
For me, Gov. Sarah Palin has become a litmus test. I have found, since Nov. 2008 that those who understand and support her are true common sense Constitutional Reagan/Tea Party conservatives. Those who don’t are something else. Communism is trying to overtake this country and the Palin-types are trying to defeat it. This naturally raises passions on both sides.

No, SP hinted at a “big announcement” on the 3rd and Rove said she will probably throw her hat in the ring…then SP commented and said HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST THAT etc. etc…he made a comment based on something SP said and then the spin on SP’s end began-but it is all good isn’t it? It keeps you talking about her and defending her!

now rove said if she didn’t announce on the 3rd she was finished. Palin has never said it was a big announcement. Her words were reported by CNN and she never mentioned a big announcment. get your facts straight.

        • http://twitter.com/cfallon57 Cheryl Fallon

The facts are that she is a genius at keeping her name in the spotlight-but when you become President you have to do more than just worry about what others say or think of you you have to run the country and get down to business.

          • Anonymous

Palin did a great job running Alaska even though one of her former employees wrote an entire book about how she was always worried about the media’s portrayal of her. She got a lot accomplished and still managed to leave a surplus behind.

Obama golfs in between his whining about the media. President Palin will have no problem fixing this country while driving the mainstream media nuts. I’m looking forward to it.

Brian, you have the original video right here on your site. Why are you accepting Rove’s spin without fact checking?

Rove’s original comments were that she would be getting in by “Labor Day weekend or soon after” thereby setting up huge and false expectations for that tea party event.

SarahPac rightly called pundits out (which includes Dick Morris, who used the September 3 date specifically, and whose name Rove volunteers in the above video out of the blue BECAUSE HE KNOWS FULL WELL THAT IT IS THE FALSE EXPECTATIONS REGARDING THE TIMING OF HER ENTRY that SarahPac objected to) for trying to box her into when she makes her announcement.

Check out the SarahPac statement and it’s link to the CNN piece, which quotes a transcript of her comments at the Iowa Fair that she “probably wouldn’t be ready by then” in reference to the tea party event September 3.

I’d say Rove is very pleased with himself this morning because:

    A) He elevated himself to Palin’s level by once again picking a fight with her – which he DELIBERATELY STARTED.

    B) Has the media – and even conservatives sites such as yours, Brian – not fact checking his misleading spin about what SarahPac objected to in his and Morris’s statements.

    C) Continues to spread words like “tease” “thin-skinned” etc. about Palin in his ONGOING effort to undermine her “gravitas.”

    Thanks for your site, Brian.

But I ask that when you put these vids up, you refer to the vids you posted earlier to see if the current video statements are nothing but deceptive spin.
    Here’s the original:

People are free to speculate-besides politics is a game-you or I may not be willing to play this game but people like Rove, Bush, Palin, and most other politicians like playing the game and even allow “the press” and “the people” in the country to help the game along.

  • http://twitter.com/cfallon57 Cheryl Fallon

SP might want to follow the example of GWB and not comment on everything that is said about her that is of course unless she just wants to keep people talking about her than it is a great tactic to use.

For those that believe she is not thinned skinned then why the comment from SP? It is all a game that all of them play in politics and she is no different. Let’s save it for the more important issues!

    • Anonymous

Rove knows better than anyone how well that worked out for GWB. Read my comment below about what he says about it in his own book.

As for why Palin would counter the idea that she is going to announce on the 3rd? Maybe because she is not going to announce on the 3rd and doesn’t want people who travel to her speech to be disappointed? She also needs to counter Rove obvious attempts to set the narrative about her and her supporters. Which you, Cheryl, are obviously being paid to do yourself.

    • Anonymous

re: ‘For those that believe she is not thinned skinned then why the comment from SP?’
Because it was going viral that if she did not announce on Sept 3, her supporters would be really disappointed in her. Also that she was just stringing folks along for attention. Since last winter Palin has never said anything other than she was considering the field and her family and would decide in late summer. She has not been misleading in any way shape or form.

      • http://twitter.com/cfallon57 Cheryl Fallon

Who said there would be a big announcement on the 3rd? The NORMAL thought would be, hey-she is throwing her hat in the ring! Do you not see how she is spinning this, but it does keep everyone talking about her doesn’t it?

Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Ron Paul, Michelle Bachmann… you see any of them getting the special treatment that she does? I’m sick of hearing about Sarah Palin and how everyone “attacks her.” Poor pitiful Sarah. BARF! I’m sick of it. Get in the race or shut up and go away. She’s doing this to herself and I have patience for it.

Actually she is very good at directing the focus of attention.

You mean like after Tuscon when she had the gall to defend herself from accusations that she was an accomplice to mass murder?

She should have shut up then, too, right?

            • Anonymous

I don’t think she should have made a comment about Tuscon. There was absolutely no need for it because it had NOTHING to do with her. I think she loves the attention. Michelle Bachmann is a class act. She is attacked just as much as Palin and she handles it very well. I think Palin is a media whore.

              • Anonymous

If Tuscon had nothing to do with Palin then why did Keith Olbermann and other liberals demand Palin answer for it? You are aware of the fact that the shooting happened on Saturday morning and within an hour Palin was being accused of being the cause of the shooting, right? By Tuesday night every liberal talking head on MSNBC was demanding Palin break her silence, which she finally did by releasing the video on Wednesday morning. She was then attacked by the same people who had demanded she speak.

                • Anonymous

It’s Keith Olbermann, really??? Who cares what he or any other lefty loon says! The left was attacking her, THE LEFT! Who cares what they have to say about her or what Karl Rove has to say about her. She has put herself out there. If someone wants to criticize her, then they have every right to. WHO CARES! I used to be a big Palin but I can’t stand her these days! I truly believe she is a media whore. She LOVES the attention. As a female I am so grateful for Michelle Bachmann, a real woman with class. I pray that Palin doesn’t enter the race, she is such a headache.

Dr. Bachmann privately lobbied for stimulus funds for Minnesota and pork producers, according to recent media reports, sought spending earmarks that she now opposes and benefited personally from tens of thousands of dollars in federal funds for a family farm and counseling clinic owned by her husband, federal records show.

                • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YL4YL72TFJPMLVU3TXPLJ4HWHY Johnry

That there is a glaring distance between Bachmann’s campaign oratory and her actual conduct as a lawmaker.

Bachmann is pure DC; she lets Rollins attack Sarah Palin and is surrounding herself with establishments types.

Why can’t people like who they want to like and dislike those they want to dislike and be vocal about it?
‘Your being a female explains it all.’ I’ll use that for my next few columns that I write. I was on the road with Sarah Palin and John McCain for months. I thought she was the reason that McCain even had a shot. I grew to really like her but over the past few months and knowing why people from her staff left makes me not like the chick, helps me realize that she is a media whore! She loves the attention more than putting the right foot forward at times. I don’t like her and me being a female HAS NOTHING to do with it. That just makes you sound ignorant.

                  Media whore?
                  You are parroting talking points.

It was Sarah Palin who after her resigned, for the past three years has worked tirelessly to fight Obama ‘s policies and elect conservatives.

She rallied the opposition to President Barack Obama during a time when opposition seemed impossible and basically spearheaded the 2010 victory with her endorsements and rallies all over the country.

There’s never been a candidate to get a more thorough examination by the media, the left, and the right. Sarah Palin has withstood the slings, barbs, bullets, and arrows that would have fallen a lesser person.

But despite all these attacks against Sarah Palin and her family she is still standing in the political arena and figting for America.

                • Anonymous

LOVE her family. LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I actually feel bad for them, especially after the show.
Parrotting talk, really? I’m intelligent enough to form my own opinion. I could say the same about you for being a Palin fan because I’ve heard ALL this before. This is the same thing I hear everytime I even mention her in an article. I DO NOT like Sarah Palin. No one is going to change my opinion of her. I do believe she is a media whore. But I’m allowed to have my own opinion. Just like you are allowed to have yours. Doesn’t mean you have to agree with it.

You could combine all of those politicians and throw in a few more and they would not come close to the number of attacks that have been delivered at Sarah Palin.

Hell, just let know me when one of them has had Andrew Sullivan inside their uterus or probing their ass and I’ll call it even. Hell, tell me when little Andi was crawling around inside of you and reporting his findings and we’ll call it even.

Everyone in the GOP gets hammered by the media, but to claim with a straight face that they are equal to the attacks on Palin makes you sound like a damn fool.

The Tucson accessory to murder accusations will never be topped for these other candidates you mentioned. Until they do it’s no contest on the severity of the attacks. I don’t care how much you wish it to be true.

Jedediah Bila: What pundits should be talking about when it comes to Palin

Ms. Bila does a good job of putting Rove, Morris and all the rest of the “pundits” in their proper place.
