According to his lawyer, officer Casebolt had just come from two suicide calls before the call came out on the radio about the madness at the pool party. At first it was just a trespassing call, and Casebolt decided not to go given the state of mind he was in. But when it became violent assault, he felt it was his duty to assist.
He does admit, according to his lawyer, that he let his emotions get the best of him, and apologizes to anyone who was offended by his actions. He says his intent was never to hurt anyone and was only reacting to the challenging circumstances around him.
