This morning on CNN Ben Carson was asked if homosexuality is a choice and he didn’t shy away from answering it, saying he absolutely believes it is a choice. When asked why, he suggested that one example of this being a choice is that some people who go into prison straight and come out gay. If it’s not a choice then how could that happen?

As I said, heads are exploding over his comments. If you just search Google News you’ll find dozens of articles already written on it. And most of them are negative, as you might expect.
Now I’m not sure about the basis for what’s being called his ‘prison’ argument, but I get his larger point that people are making decisions about their sexuality based on different factors that they’ve been subjected to. It’s the ‘we are products of our environment’ argument, one that the left quickly dismisses because it adds causality to the equation. They’d rather believe the cause is God, that is to say they are born with it, and therefore it must be wonderful and good and something that should be accepted. And anyone, like Carson, who suggests otherwise is demeaned and said to be stupid for saying it’s a choice. And that’s what he’s up against now that he has publicly made this statement.
