Levin says it didn’t take 8 months for Republicans to revert back to their old ways with Boehner bullying his caucus to get them behind his plan. Levin decided it was time for a short history lesson, not on the founding fathers, not on Ronald Reagan, but on the landslides of November of 2010 from which the US House was flipped so that Republicans had the majority once again, granted to them by the American people.

This is well worth the listen.

problem is this is the wrong battle to fight because the leverage the tea partiers have could cause a crisis…congress has to make the decision, what happens if they don’t raise the ceiling and the economy tanks, the repubs will get the blame… and obama getting reelected is a real possibility.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BPIFJYIKAC7TGLOTY6UZ6MCTAA Brock S.

Wrong. The Republicans have presented plans and he has threatened to veto them. They should stick to it, pass something in both houses and make him own it from that point forward and call his bluff. The madness he and Bush have created with the ridiculous levels of spending we are currently at. This is the perfect opportunity to throw this back in his face and make the man-child actually have to make a decision.

      • Anonymous

problem is… the decision to raise the ceiling is made by the congress and not the president, so unfortunately the congress will get the blame and not the pres.

Which way will the media report it? According to their narrative, we are causing default and the ‘Tea Party’ is getting thrown under the bus by RINO media darlings and the establishment types.

It is a risk, and the Republicans are poised to lose it because they don’t fight the narrative hard enough. There is a clip on this front page of Rand Paul’s interview on the Glenn Beck- Those small handful of Tea Party candidates are the only ones that I feel really care….the other Republicans are scheming to blame any attempt at reform.

I agree that it’s time to put it on the line, but we have to go in knowing what the consequences of a political decision may result in and how they will play out.

        • Anonymous

i will tell you how this will play out.. tea partiers are extremists they would rather crash the economy, than compromise…blah blah blah…unfortunately the americans will buy it and we will then have a tough fight on our hands..

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BPIFJYIKAC7TGLOTY6UZ6MCTAA Brock S.

Gee, they never say that already right? I mean, they in the media are going to say that no matter what happens so you may as well force the Obama to do this. I would be forced to agree that it’s only a handful of guys / gals on our side that understand how to play this part of the game, but at the end of this – we can’t keep worrying about what the shills in the media are going to screech about next. MSDNC, CNN and the rest of them are already bought and paid for by the dems. The whole point of Levin’s piece was that Americans didn’t buy it – that’s why the dems got their collective nuts stomped in October of last year.

            • Anonymous

ur missing the point….obama does not have to do anything, the congress makes the final decision, this is the problem with this battle…after everything is said and done it is the congress that will make the decision of whether the ceiling should rise or not…this is not obamas problem it is the congresses…in nov 2010 the facts were plain to see..but in this debate it is the congress that will get the blame, because if congress does raise the ceiling then nothing will happen but if they dont then the economy could tank that is why it is a tuff position to be in..

          • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo The Wizard of Oz

It will be terrible no matter what because our credit is going to get downgraded and we’re going to get blamed for it. We may as well fight for and make the best deal, which is actually the best way to avoid the credit rating implications. It will serve as a double-whammy on the administration, especially if Obama bitterly fights the Cut, Cap, & Balance and it ends up turning the country around….worst thing for Obama are successful Republican plans.

            • Anonymous

if our credit gets downgraded even after congress raises the ceiling then it will be a hard sell to convince the folks that repubs caused it, however if the ceiling is not raised and the economy contracts big time then it is really easy to blame repubs, this is the problem…

              • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo The Wizard of Oz

The media has been playing the “Republicans wouldn’t compromise” song for over a week now = the stacking of the deck for any negative result, except polling is showing that most people don’t blame the POTUS for the delay of the issue and a slightly larger third of the people blame the Reps. Their stupidity along with a corrupt media means that they will believe whatever their masters tell them.

so what would you do …if u were boehner on august 2nd?

                • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo The Wizard of Oz

Force Cut, Cap, & Balance through the House as many times as it takes to keep the pressure on the Senate Dems to act. The fact that a balanced budget amendment is part of the deal should be a huge sales pitch to the people, and the claim could be made that he’s asking for the Dems to put actions behind their words that they want to control Washington spending. It will be on the Senate to deny a balanced budget amendment which almost all Americans want.

Press conference every night to inform the people of the days actions.

                • Anonymous

and if unemployment sharply rises end of august..because the ceiling isn’t raised…what would you say?

                • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo The Wizard of Oz

As opposed to what, steadily rising? The ceiling will be raised once the Senate decides to stop obstructing the House’s controls over debt spending. The plan is on the table, the House controls the spending- quit torturing the people for your own political gain and sign the bill….if you veto or don’t pass it, you know it’s at the expense of the American economy and its people.

                • Anonymous

                  true…i guess ur making sense

                • http://twitter.com/ozziecastillo The Wizard of Oz

I admit that it’s risky politically and that it may hurt the economy drastically— but my position is that we are already in decline, and continuing the spending will increase the speed at which we will reach a downgrade of the credit rating.

Damn the cost and do the right thing so we can show real good faith in paying our debts and controlling our spending. Only a few possible outcomes:

We avert disaster and Obama takes it on the chin for proloning the inevitable.

Obama breaks with the constitution with help from the manufactured economic crisis.

We partially avert a disaster but take a hit in the credit rating and Reps take all the blame putting any chances to change 2012 in jeopardy.

Some of those outcomes are likely no matter what happens so it is up to Reps to make the best of it and sell the message because the message is right and has been right for a while….they just don’t have a spine.

Forgot NPR— just heard on the radio today that NPR didn’t air Boehner’s response to Obama’s speech. They also had a panel of 1 Democrat to discuss the speech. MSNBC or NPR- which one will be Pravda.

I know it’s not really relevant – but you guys would be having a fit if you could hear how things stateside are being reported here in the UK.

BBC radio 5 live ran with the line ”Obama is doing his best to make cuts in spending but the extremist TEA party movement seems determined to destroy the presidents world standing even if they damage their country in the meantime”.

On BBC1’s Andrew Marr show Vince Cable (a Lib-Dem MP – ie, part of our coalition government!) referred to the TEA party as a bunch of ‘right wing nutters’ – totally unchallenged by the interviewer.

There is a shocking level of ignorance in the British Media – although they all seem to be aware that the destiny of the US will directly effect our own nations. Unfortunately Obama (PBUH) can do no wrong and no wrong can be reported on over here.

                  Obama trying to make cuts!!!

Holy cow, do we not have a crisis now, is this the way the Tea Party should be treated after getting these people elected? You say the blame will be put on the republicans, it always has been with the liberals. Obama being reelected will be a possibilty, sure it is, so is taking the credit ( not the blame) for returning this country to fiscal sanity. It is also worth mentioning that being held hostage to the liberals and Obama is where we were since Obama was elected and negotiating with him has proven to be nothing short of futile.

      • Anonymous

if interest rates spike…and the economy contracts even more and then unemployment will rise sharply, right now we have plateued at 9% if that rises to 11% or above i hate to say this …repubs will get the blame and obama will get another 4 yrs …if that happens i am flying to mars..

that’s right…. its never the right time to stop kissing the liberal buttocks…
wise up… there never will be the right time because the country is so screwed up that it is almost over… no matter what the dolts in Washington do, the credit rating will be lowered.
Face it, what they are arguing about is peanuts, the crumbs….
none of the proposals really reduce anything… it just looks like it.
Yes we will cut this and that… over 10 years… bull crap… none of these people will be there in 10 years so how good is that promise?
Face it everyone… the Republicans are throwing the Tea Party under the bus and doing the same friggin crap they have always done.
Its smoke and mirrors time again.

Make BO run on his decisions, on his record, Don’t give him cover! On his plan. Keep asking and asking and asking, until Carney’s eyes bleed and BO has to hock his teleprompter. The uh,uh,uh man will crumble!

    • Anonymous

problem is he doesn’t need to crumble because it is not his decision to make, it is the congress that makes the decision on the ceiling so the criminal who caused the problem gets away scott free…

      • Anonymous

But he has veto power and the decisions on what not to pay, you’re saying he’s the gingerbreadman if Boehner doesn’t fold. I understand that interest will spike and repubs will get the blame. Unemployment at 11%?, it’s at 20% or better in my district now, I am soo frustrated. I’m thinking that if it never hits the bottom, we’ll not recover for years and years. Blame for this belongs to those who spent and spent, the damocrats.

  • Anonymous

The clowns we have as “representatives”, of BOTH parties, are fully capable of destroying what’s left of the monetary system. They are fiscal sociopaths who don’t give a damn what’s best for this country, but what’s in it for themselves. Keep spending, you morons, and we’ll be living the plot of a novel I read 20 years ago called A Distant Crossing. When it all unravels, it is going to get ugly.

  • Constance

I had a feeling that the top of Levin’s head was going to come off today. And, he is absolutely correct in all that he said. I am so disgusted and angry today. I knew Boehner was a phony – I posted as such on this site a few days ago. I knew it was all a ruse. The thing that bothers me the very most is watching these new conservatives give in. We put our trust and faith in these people.

Did you catch the clip he played of John McCain? McCain would not even campaign against Obama the way he attacked the Tea Party.

      • Anonymous

Arizona saw the true nature of John McCain in the last Senatorial election as he spent 22 million viciously attacking a good conservative named J.D. Hayworth.
Mr. McCain flooded the airwaves with the mantra “character matters”. It sure does, as we watch once him again work to snatch defeat out of the jaws of conservative victory. Character does matter and the American people are still waiting for him and others to demonstrate some.

If the Republicans have complete control of the government in 2012 including an establishment endorsed Republican President, does anybody really think they will make major painful cuts then? Unilaterally tackle Medicare and Social Security on their own? Or even repeal Obamacare? Really? Why would they risk all the power they gained by doing something hard that would be ripped by the media.

They are all cowards and we are doomed. For those that might think 22 billion sounds a lot better then 1 billion the first year, understand these two points. First, they probably did the first budget so that the second budget would look better. The Overton Window concept.

Second, how small is a 22 billion dollar cut in discretionary spending? In the two years between 2008-2010, the Democrats raised discretionary spending by 268 billion. For those that want to get back to 2008 spending levels, this bill will get us about 8% there. Only 92% to go. Even with this cut, they will still have raised discretionary spending by more then 20% since 2008.

Yep . If it is/were true that the Tea Party wants the system to crash , then so be it . I’m with them . Because , it’s NEVER going to get any better anyway with these traitors , like the RINOS and the Democrats . The system is going to crash anyway . The system in place right now is too corrupt and hasn’t been working for over 30 years .

First order of business on Thursday should be a House Resolution to raise the Debt Ceiling for 30 days….about 200 billion dollars, then walk out! Send it to the Senate and watch the Progressives duck for cover. This is a small can to kick until Obama presents a “plan” in writing and in good faith. If the Senate and Obama do not sign it, then it is Reids fault and if the triple A rating of the USA credit is lowered within the next 30 days begin Impeachment proceedings.
Cut Cap and Balance has passed, then a the Resolution to raise the debt ceiling on Thursday and just walk away.
    Obama has no Standing !

Get all the news media cameras on you and say “President Obama you have trashed and threatened to veto every plan we have put on the table, Where Is YOUR PLAN!!! Tell the American people step by step what your plan is!” Why hasn’t any Republican leader gone on the national stage and done this yet?
