Remember the little boy that got suspended for chomping his pop-tart into a gun? Well Mark Steyn says this incident my seem small, but it’s no little thing. And not only was the suspension itself absurd, but then a memo went out to parents, according to Steyn, telling them that school counselors were available to assist any child who had issues with this inappropriate gesture. After reading the memo, Steyn said this:

You’re doomed America! You’re done for! No society can survive this level of stupidity! The school counselor is available to meet with any students who are traumatized by hearing reports of some guy four grades below them who nibbles a pop-tart into a gun-like shape.

I’ve never subscribed to this whole greatest generation thing, you know. But you look at those guys, they weren’t much older than the kids from the school. A lot of them were like seventeen, eighteen years old. And they’re storming out of these transport ships in the churning waters of the English Channel and the North Sea and they’re landing on the beaches of Normandy. And their getting out of these and they stomping up the beaches and they’re taking German gunfire and all the rest.

Do you think if you raised people so that you make a school counselor to available to them in cased they’ve been traumatized by someone who was nibbled a pop-tart into the shape of a gun….do you think if they’re ever called upon to get out those ships and the storm the beaches of Normandy, do you think they’re gonna be up to that?

‘Oh no look, the Germans, they’re all holding pop-tarts! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!’

No society can survive this level of stupidity! These small things are not small. They tell you a lot about the institutionalized stupidity of our institutions.

And there’s much more. Listen:

Sorry Steve, I didn’t see your post before I posted similarly

Yes and *sigh* they’re actually having to pass a bill to make school administrators and teachers think logically. http://www.politico.com/story/2013/03/bill-protects-right-to-bear-pop-tarts-88691.html?hp=l12

“So Jennings introduced “The Reasonable School Discipline Act of 2013” into Maryland’s legislature last week. If passed — and Jennings says he’s not sure whether it’ll be put to a vote — elementary- and middle-school principals wouldn’t be able to suspend kids for drawing pictures of guns, making gun motions with their hands or pretending non-weapon objects, among other reasons.”

Unbelievable that it has come to this.

  • denbren52

As long as we have (a) the institutionalized hatred of the U.S. Constitution, coupled with (b) The zero-tolerance mentality stemming from the inability of those in charge to make an informed decision without black and white rules, we will continue the advance toward collectivism and communism. And what makes it worse id that our nation will be defenseless against both tyrannical government and any foreign enemy. This indeed seems like Obama’s plan in motion.

  • DavidRobertson

I don’t know how this country recovers. It is hard to have hope these days.

    • Conservator1

As much as I want a conservative President and Congress after the 2016 election, it’s more likely they will be blamed because turning around this nation will take at least a decade to undo the harm caused by Obama and his progressive minions. BTW, I am an admirer of Mark Steyn.

      • americalsgt

Stop it. Fear of failure is no excuse for not trying.

        • GWShrub

Right on, brother. I’m with you.

Don’t let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game.

Trust yourself. Trust your instincts. Trust the ones you hold close to your heart. & ALWAYS remember that God will never give you anything you can’t handle. Trust in him.

We make mistakes, never forget. We turn them into lessons, never regret. & always remember that someone, somewhere is going through worse situations than you – or perhaps similar. Everyone goes through some kind of “bump on the road”, but don’t let that bump cause much turbulence. RISE ABOVE IT.

We have to fight back with all we have. We can’t give up. When things seem impossible, remember we have help.

        • Conservator1

See my reply to las1 above…

      • las1

It may take more than a decade, but I’m afraid to tell you this Conservator1… it’s progressive America that produced an Obama. First comes the rot… Obama is just the cherry on the top.

        • Conservator1

I don’t disagree and perhaps should have used the word concern rather than afraid – leftist don’t frighten me. Their agenda under Obama has put us on a coarse like Japan and that’s been a 20 year recession.

          • las1

Fear is not a bad thing. The fear of Hitler spurred the allies to fight. I fear an Obama and the left because I know what they are about. Fear is a very useful emotion to have on our side if it spurs the right action.

            • Conservator1

Once again I agree las1. There’s a school of thought in human behaviorism that people will do far more to avoid pain (aka fearful) than they are willing to do for pleasure. Fear is the most power human motivation force and as you correctly state, “Fear is not a bad thing.”

        • M_J_S

I think I would refer to obama as anything other than a “cherry”. More like a dingle-berry.

          • las1

Very good point. I can think of even more appropriate epithets, and I know you certainly can.

  • mark1955

BLEEP Mark Steyn! He is a deep, dark, depressing defeatist Euro/Canadian, of the First order! I don’t know how many people know this about Steyn but he lives in New Hampshire and takes from this Great Country and doesn’t even see fit to become an American Citizen. One of his latest books had America flat on it’s back defeated. In 2011 at the beginning of the repub Presidential Primary run, Sean Hannity asked Steyn from a list of candidates who was is favorite? That’s Favorite in who Steyn liked the best. You know who he said? Tim Milquetoast Pawlenty! Pawlenty. Does that tell you everything you want to know about that Defeatist Steyn? Then again it doesn’t matter since Steyn can’t vote, since he doesn’t even have enough Guts to become an American even though he lives here.

Steyn you might think, “It’s over” but me an most American’s haven’t given up inspite of how scary the situation is. So why don’t you Butt out and leave this to us American’s!

    • toongoon

OH NO!! There goes another conservative hero. He chose a Republican candidate and he is still a Canadian. (Hangs head in shame)

I think I’ll just support Obama, at least he’s honest. phhht

      • mark1955

“Conservative hero” to who? My point is Mark Steyn is a gutless defeatist coward, who has already thrown in the towel on America well befiore this fight is over and that’s your definition of a hero? No thanks! he would have fit in well with the French in World War 2. Also, you don’t think it is relevant, that he is telling us we are finished and he lives in this Country and doesn’t even have enough guts to put his money where his Faux Conservative talk is, by becoming an American citizen and Having ( I loathe using this term ) some “Skin in the game”? Let me make it even more simple for you so even you can understand this: Steyn is a Foreigner telling us we are over. I don’t know how that sits with you but it doesn’t sit very well with me!

        • toongoon

Steyn is extremely sarcastic and that’s exactly how I took it. I love his dark humor and how he is so descriptive dialogue. Of course, humor is the only that keeps me sane lately.

      • las1

Well said there toongoon. Wow! I didn’t know that a requirement to love America, publicize her greatness, admire her Constitution and revere her founders, to buy US property, contribute to her economy and to contribute to her public discourse was to get a passport. I better stop posting here till I can get at least a green card. Can I stay at you place there toongoon till they issue me one.

Mark’s big crime apparently is to jolt Americans with the dark truth and gloomy realities of left-wing asininity. So what if he’s a little bleak and gloomy. I prefer Mark’s kind of dark with his brilliant humour to the kind of darkness Obama’s bringing on the country.

        • toongoon

Come on down las1. I’m near Chicago….. still interested? ;-(

          • las1

Uh… Chicago eh? I’ll get back to you on that.

            • toongoon

Good thinking. Maybe we’ll just come to Canada eh?

              • las1

While Canada is slowly, every so slowly inching Conservative, we have our leftist Armageddon fast approaching in three years with the next election. The line up of leftist ghouls on our horizon does not look good… but at least we have SUN News when before it was just the state broadcaster and the lame media.

  • shield1

This just in, Sesame Street to ban the letters L, b,d,F, J, and P…..

    • Rob_Bryant

Nah, they would never ban ‘L’. Gotta keep it around for the start of shows that are brought to you by the letters L-G-B-T-Q.

      • las1

Isn’t L exempted in gun bans… they just have to be equipped with permanent trigger locks.

I don’t know about T however. T could be mistaken for a RPG launcher.

        • Rob_Bryant

Watch your words, Big Transgender and their lobbyists will get you! haha

          • las1

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Steven-Valdez/1806887704 Steven Valdez

it won’t be long before the schools start banning the letter L because if you turn it horizontal it looks like a gun.

    • toongoon

Good, maybe we will then ban liberals too.

      • Amy

If turned at the right angle, the maps of New York & Maryland look like a gun. If we ban those states from all discourse and societal involvement, we’d have a good head start. I’m still working on trying to figure out which threatening item California & Illinois look like – there’s got to be something menacing we can foist on those shapes!

Four of the most liberal states banned – it’s a good start…

Sorry to all you scoopers who live in one of those four – time to move north or west!

        • OneThinDime

I think NY does as is….oh no, time to remap the borders…what happens if someone starts to nibble on ND and SD?

        • toongoon

Illinois looks pregnant, it needs an abortion. Chicago, it’s suburbs and Springfield is the fetus. I would go for late term in this case only.

If Cali doesn’t fall in on itself the San Andreas fault oughta take care of it. All I can say about California is get bent!

Edit: BTW, i’m in ill annoy and I’m not offended.

          • Amy

;-) All of my family lives in N IL. I keep telling them to move north! We need more conservatives in WI so we can keep it red.

Cali is a strange place – the north is very red but the rest is insanely liberal. I have a feeling my youngest is going to end up at Pendleton and I’ll have to visit that part of the state again. :-( Yuck.

            • toongoon

I have two sons over the border but I can’t get them scared or concerned enough to vote. I keep tabs on WISN for local news.

        I thought they used bananas.

  • Amy

Steyn can bugger off – I listened to his sarcastic laced, pessimistic fill in today for Rush. What’s with this ‘We’re doomed.’ crap. You think the days of our Revolution weren’t dark & depressing? For Cripes Sake – get your damn chins out of mud and forge on. I’m sick of hearing how we’re over. It’s a self fulfilling prophesy from people who seem too afraid to freaking fight.

    • Landscaper

I heard Rush’s show today too and I took his [Steyn] comments as complete sarcasm. I thought his entire point was to parody the ridiculous behavior of the over reacting Liberals.

      • Amy

Perhaps – and I’ll readily admit he’s not my favorite to listen to and I find him depressing as hell. My frustration is in listening to everyone who throws up their hands & says it’s over. It’s only over if we quit.

        • OneThinDime

This will make you smile today. Give it a read with a Big Gulp in hand

I agree whole heartedly with your last sentence. I have a long fuse about a lot of things. Since I was raised by a stern father and war vet, I have no patience with whiners whatsoever.

        • mark1955

You got the right impression about Steyn, he has alway’s been like this. My heroes don’t quit and don’t run. Steyn is not a hero , Conservative or otherwise. Steyn has written us off awhile ago as one of his books had us flat on our backs defeated. He should become an American citizen or leave. I don’t like anyone telling me our Country is doomed, particularly if that person is a foreigner who lives here. I don’t take that very well!

      • OneThinDime

Me too and I thought they were funny as heck.

      • mark1955

It’s more than that. He’s alway’s been unusually Dark and defeatist. That is a singularly un-American trait and I don’t like it. As I mentioned previously, a book he authored approximately a year and a half ago had America flat on it’s back finished. Talk is cheap and Steyn lives and takes from this Country and will be on the First boat out of here when things get tough. Steyn talks a big Conservative game but can’t even back it up by becoming an American citizen even though he lives here and voting.

        • Landscaper

I’ve only heard him a few times so I don’t know his past and was speaking of today ONLY with the boy and the pop-tart. I wonder why Rush lets him sub.

      • Wisewoman2

Spot on. The sour notes never get the irony.

How will future generations see us? That old English Journalist, Malcolm Muggeridge speaks to us from beyond the grave.

The liberal mind’s basic dogma – the notion that human beings as individuals must necessarily get better and better – is even now considered by most people to be untenable in the light of their indubitably outrageous behavior towards one another. But the equivalent collective concept – that their social circumstances and conduct must necessarily improve – has come to seem almost axiomatic. On this basis, all change represents Progress, and is therefore good. To change anything is per se to improve or reform it. [Future] archaeologists will also [one day] note how, with the abandonment of Christianity, the whole edifice of ethics, law, culture, and human relationships based upon it was likewise demolished; how sex and associated erotica and sterility rites provided the mysticism of the new religion of Progress; and education – a moral equivalent of conversion, whereby the old Adam of ignorance, superstition, and the blind acceptance of tradition was put aside, and the new Liberal Man born: enlightened, erudite, cultivated. So the bustling campuses multiplied and expanded, as did the facilities and buildings: more and more professors instructing more and more students in more and more subjects. As the astronauts soared into the vast eternity of space, on earth the garbage piled higher. As the groves of academe extended their domain, their alumni’s arms reached lower. As the phallic cult spread, so did impotence. In great wealth, great poverty. In health, sickness. In numbers, deception. Gorging, left hungry. Sedated, left restless. Telling all, hiding all. In flesh united, but forever separate. So we pressed on, through the valley of abundance, that leads to the wasteland of satiety. Passing through the gardens of fantasy, seeking happiness ever more ardently, and finding boundless despair ever more surely.

So the final conclusion would surely be that whereas other civilizations have been brought down by attacks of barbarians from without, ours had the unique distinction of training its own destroyers at its own educational institutions, and then providing them with facilities for propagating their destructive ideology far and wide, all at the public expense. Thus did Western Man decide to abolish himself, creating his own boredom out of his own affluence, his own vulnerability out of his own strength, his own impotence out of his own erotomania, himself blowing the trumpet that brought the walls of his own city tumbling down, and having convinced himself that he was too numerous, labored with pill and scalpel and syringe to make himself fewer. Until at last, having educated himself into imbecility, and polluted and drugged himself into stupefaction, he heeled over – a weary, battered old brontosaurus – and became extinct. — Malcolm Muggeridge, The True Crisis of Our Time, 1985

    • las1

That was simply awesome. I gotta read me some Muggeridge. When did he write this? Like sometime this afternoon I’ll bet.

With more and more of these incidents being reported, I do believe we have attained the state of “Idiocracy”. We have allowed or country to be overtaken by a minority of knee-jerk demented half-wits who in their hell-bent mad rush to transform America into a full-fledged Marxist/society have ruined it for the majority. It’s the wussification of America courtesy of the left. Progressivism (courtesy of the democrat party) is grooming gutless citizens of the State who have willingly traded liberty for dependence on handouts.

  • PNWShan

After WWI, the French intelligentsia ‘reformed’ French history curriculum to push the point that war is always bad, pacifism is good, all soldiers victims, there is no heroism on the battlefield… and that’s why they surrendered so quickly to the Nazis, who of course, were raised with a very different philosophy.

Boys need to know how they can be heroes. Totalitarian states teach boys the only way to be heroes is to snitch on others to the state. Modern American classes teach boys the way to be heroes is to sit quietly in your chair (on Ritalin), recycle, and abhor guns or action.

  • BethAustin

@Paul Leslie Way to blame everything on the left, as if those  right wing soccer moms and dads aren’t responsible too, with all their “oh noes we think this show is too violent and/or we disagree with some idea in it, so instead of turning the channel we’re going to boycott it to get them to censor it!!!1!” (Examples include AFA, One Million Moms, etc etc)
