Michigan Right to Work Open Thread: The vote happens today

Today is the big day for Right to Work legislation in Michigan, giving workers the right to choose their union/non-union fate rather than have it determined for them. Not sure what time the vote happens, but it should be later this evening. Right now there are large protests at the Capitol.

Here’s CNN’s report on it (h/t: Hotair)

Steven Crowder is on the ground in Lansing and apparently it’s gotten a little tense up there, shall we say:

I’ll be posting that video whenever he releases it.

P.S. I will be out early afternoon for a while. But I should be back around 2:30/3PM.

  • That report is so very biased! What’s wrong with chosing not to join? If the Unions do such a great job, why are they worried?

  • BlueGood

My girlfriend left a note on the fridge, “It’s not working. I can’t take it anymore. I am going to my Mom’s place.

    I opened the fridge.

    The light came on.

    The beer was cold..

What the hell is she talking about?

    • I suspect she meant the oven and/or stove wasn’t working…I s’pose she’ll be back later with a home cooked meal from her mom’s house…

    • RKflorida

      Ha!! Great one, thanks.

  • Bunjy

Violent, totalitarian thugs. Some days I long for the time when such barbarian behavior would be met with retaliation in kind or public throttling.

    • sDee

and that is why Right to Carry, must accompany Right to Work.

      • Betsey_Ross

That is why we now live in VA. People around here are very polite. The unions are not big in our area with the little manufacturing we do have. All in all where we live is beautiful, not real heavily taxed(but that is about to change) very little union activity and it is fairly peaceful. Concealed carry is part of the reason along with Right to Work. We always contribute to the National Right to Work Foundation. They get more of our money that the Republicans or anyone else for that matter. Good people and have been in the fight for a very long time.

      • Bunjy

Got my concealed weapons permit in the mail this week. I live in MI, so it came just in time.

        • Orangeone

          Great to hear!

  • Let the riots begin from the oh so peaceful left.

  • I hope Michigan is the new Wisconsin. We can only pray that they have the strength to make it happen.

  • anneinarkansas

Go Michigan! Hang on to your new right to work state!
Let the unions boil over and down and out…no loss to society.
Or should I say a gain for society. Unions are damaging.

  • marketcomp

I hope that the legislators stay the course and hold firm and do what is right for their citizens.

  • tinlizzieowner

    News Flash!
Obama wins election, Republicans protesting in the streets, police on the ready with mace and tear gas!
    Oops, wait a minute.
Right to work wins, Democrats protesting in the streets, police on the ready with mace and tear gas!
    That’s more typical.
    😉 😉

    • Orangeone

MSM ignores, law enforcement ignores, unionbots attack women and children while other unionbots cheer them on.

      • tinlizzieowner

But these are just peaceful protesters. Ask anybody in the lame stream media, they’ll tell you.
        😉 😉

        • Orangeone

          So true!

          • tinlizzieowner

The lame stream media will also tell you it’s just a few (hundred) bad apples spoiling the bunch.
Now, if that was a Tea Party protest, a few ‘bad apples’ would be an example of the entire movement.
            😉 😉
            Situational Hypocrisy.

            • Orangeone

You are on a roll today!

  • Rshill7

Jen Kuznickie was out there watching Crowder trying to reason with the thugs. Hang on a second, one of our friends that is there just called…

He had his tablet stolen, his glasses stolen, (he was in the tent).

Not sure what the hold-up is on the bill yet. It was supposed to be ready for Governor’s signature by now. Will add when I find out.

    • Betsey_Ross

Reason with the thugs???? I never heard of such a thing and he was lucky that he only got that little nick out of his head. There is no reasoning with the stupid and fightened. They aren’t losing anything and we are all losing our freedom. Not a good trade.

    • Orangeone

Governor should have signed that bill before Barky arrived in his state. This violence was stirred up by Barky Boy and Congress needs to hold him accountable for it.

  • Okay, what did I miss? I thought it already passed a couple days ago. Why did we see reports of its passage as a done deal?

    • Rshill7

The Senate voted on a slightly tweaked, more encompassing bill that the House of Reps had to agree with today, which they quickly did. It’s the better of the two for our side. It’s supposed to go to the Governor now.

There’s some other hold up we are not sure of yet.

      • Thanks. Stoopid reporters never include stuff like that on these stories.

Man, what a bunch of crybabies the union thugs are.

    • Orangeone

House and Senate, Gov’r supposed to sign today. But then Barky Boy came to town yesterday to incite the riots.

  • Sober_Thinking

    Unions… the cancer of America.

    • Orangeone

Remember my other post? The best cure for cancer are high doses of radiation!

  • By the way, I was looking into this a bit. It turns out one of the more affected unions might be the NEA.

Back when the NEA became a union, and not just a teacher’s advocacy group, the vast majority of members and teachers wanted nothing to do with “collective bargaining” or union control. They wanted to be able to choose from among the various teacher professional organizations and work through those to improve education and their own profession.

Once New York fell to the unionization of the NEA, they grew like wildfire. Evidently the NEA groups that show up at Democrat conventions are larger than the delegation from California.

The next step I’d like to see is serious punishment, like 15-to-life, for any head of a public sector union that channels funds into a political party.

    • Orangeone

Rather than 15-life, given cost concerns and overcrowded prisons, could we simply load them on to the appropriate aircraft and drop them over Pakistan with a parachute packed by a unionbot?

    Michigan: Union, borderline bankrupt
    Illinois: Union, borderline bankrupt
    California: Union, borderline bankrupt

    “There will be blood”

    With that in mind:

Illinois Concealed Weapons Ban Tossed By Court

    • marketcomp

I hope people are armed! That has a way of making union bullies change their minds. Even if they also have guns they will have a tendency to think twice if they beleive that arm could come to them also.

      • Orangeone

I hope it is the Conservatives that are armed!

    • Orangeone

You beat me to it K-Bob! I just saw that on Twitter 🙂

    • Nukeman60

You were way ahead of me – and I live in Illinois. I just posted about the same thing. Sorry, should have read all the way through the comments before I posted.

    union goons vs the people
    union goons vs freedom
    union goons vs job creation

I can proudly state that I am a certified union hater.
I can proudly state the I never worked for any union.

    • MiketheMarine

Me too on that entire list and, quite frankly, I think it’s time to start meeting violence with focused, restrained violence. For instance, that dude with the knife? I would have attempted to stick it where the sun don’t shine sideways.

      • tinlizzieowner

Mike, that’s exactly what the Obama ‘machine’ wants. Then he can institute a ‘state of emergency’, suspend the Constitution and declare martial law.
        Do I have a better solution? No, I wish I did. 🙁

        • MiketheMarine

Martial law is only as effective as the police that will enforce it. Do yourself a favor and google “Oathkeepers.” You may find a little something to restore some of your faith. There are more of us that respect and honor the Constitution than those against it. We are the silent majority. Really, google it and you’ll feel better.

          • tinlizzieowner

I’m familiar with it, Mike. I just don’t put anything past what the Obama ‘machine’ is capable of.

            • MiketheMarine

Just remember, anything like martial law that he may “declare” must be carried out by others. I have faith in all of my brothers and sisters in arms.

He’d have trouble making it stick.

Stick with us, Friend. We will win this. Eventually, no matter the cost, we will be victorious.

              • tinlizzieowner

I agree completely. The pendulum has swung just about as far to the left as it can. It’s only a matter of time but…… it’s still only a matter of how much damage the Obama ‘machine’ can do to the Republic in that time too.
People here keep saying that Obama and his cronies ‘are stupid’, that’s a fatal mistake. Stupid, no. Insidious (having a gradual and cumulative effect), yes.

                • MiketheMarine

I agree 100% with every word of that. And their reason, whether ignorance or maliciousness, matters not at all. Only the damage done matters.

                  Have faith.

            • Orangeone

Barky Boy will declare martial law anyway. He will have his followers riot against each other if need be.

        • Orangeone

High doses of radiation therapy would work 🙂 Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and a few other chosen cities need to be turned into glass.

          • stage9

It’s hard to take that comment seriously when your avatar is a kitten. lol.

          • tinlizzieowner

  • sjmom

Just saw on Drudge that the right to work bill passed the House.

    • tinlizzieowner

Union workers assault camera men, tear down ‘right to work’ tent, trample it with people inside. Thugs will be thugs, right?

  • Joengima

Just saw a tweet from Michigan Speaker of the house that the MI House just passed SB116 final vote was 58-52. That’s the Freedom to Work bill for workers deciding on private unions.

  • 1tootall

I’d like to remind everyone just how this anarchy worked out for the organized thugs in Wisconsin. It put a face on the extreme left agenda. It’s taking place again here in Michigan. I grew up there…what a shame.

    • Orangeone

Just wait until the anti-gun and the pro-2nd Amendment start in Chicago!

  • sDee

The notions of scale in this video are very interesting. They make the point that our Republic will not scale but I do not necessarily agree – the concept is correct but the implementation needs to adjust.

Hard to tell where they are going in Parts 2 and 3 but I believe centralized Collectivism will rapidly collapse, even faster. The direction needs to be toward State sovereignty. I also believe that the 17th Amendment was a great contributor to this problem. If the States controlled Senators as intended, then the states would have been moving away from centralization.

    Is America Too Big?

  • Come on, Pennsylvania! Get with the program. We need right to work here, too! I can’t stand the flaming metal trash bins during the “peaceful union contract negotiation period” at my employer. I am so glad my job is non-union.

  • stage9

Did I miss something? I thought this already past the other day? What is this vote for?

    • mike3e4r7

      Hattip Rshill7

The Senate voted on a slightly tweaked, more encompassing bill that the House of Reps had to agree with today, which they quickly did. It’s the better of the two for our side. It’s supposed to go to the Governor now.

There’s some other hold up we are not sure of yet…

It appears that the last step is one more reconciling between house and senate so that public and private unions, with the exception of fire and police will all be included in final passage for Governor to sign.

      • stage9

        Oh, OK, got it.

Uh oh Jesseeeeee Jacksooooooon is there that means it’s about to become racial to oppose the union slave masters.

        • mike3e4r7

Yeah. Pimps hate it when the people they bully decide to fight back.

  • stage9

Listen to what’s being argued against in the video:

“Workers would not have to pay union dues on the condition of having a job. That means everyone from teachers to auto workers to mechanics can choose whether they want to join a union or not.”

Can we just begin deportation of liberal fanatics now, or do we have to wait for the inevitable civil war first?

    • Orangeone

Yes please! We need to bring our men and women home from the Middle East and start replacing them with untrained, unarmed, Barky Boy unionbots. And no time like the present.

  • stage9

    One word: Detroit.

  • poljunkie

Its been signed by the GOV.

    woo hoo.

  • Show me a union member and I will show you a communist.

Three cheers for Michigan for having the courage to NOT follow California down the road to destruction. California is bankrupt due to the unions and Gray Davis selling us out to them. It is why he was recalled. It was too little too late though since there is a mass exodus of conservatives leaving the state. Doesn’t help that California Republican Party is RINO either. They could have been a bulwark against the left but instead chose to march with them.

  • Stupid union goons. No one is taking away their damn rights. Michigan is only listening to the voice of the people. The rejected the unions referendum and now they want to impose their will by force. Nonsense.

  • Andrew

I have lived in Michigan my whole life and I could not be happier about this. When the unions pushed to have collective bargaining added to our state constitution, our Governor fought it and won. I will be righting a letter to Gov Snyder today to keep up the good work! I will be voting against any recall efforts directed towards Snyder.

  • Marridge

Wow, I haven’t seen any lib trolls yet defending this garbage.

  • Nukeman60

There is good news also in Illinois, where the 7th US Court of Appeals has struck down a ban on Illinois conceal-carry (good thing it wasn’t the 9th Court of Appeals). The state legislature has 6 months to formulate a conceal-carry law with ‘reasonable limitations’. There are a couple of cases still pending in the courts, so they may use their format to construct the law by January.

Is it just me, or does it seem like things are back-firing on this administration and their overspending, gun-hating, Union-loving lackeys?

    • Orangeone

It isn’t just you! I saw this on Twitter and before I could post, saw K-Bob’s post!!!!

      • Nukeman60

Yeah, me too. He was much faster than I was and I live in Illinois. lol

  • Orangeone

I’m shocked, shocked, I tell ya (/sarc) Barky Boy declines to condemn the union violence. Well of course he does, he was there yesterday inciting it!
