Mitch McConnell: Don’t worry about Trump destroying the country…

Mitch McConnell suggested to CBS that he’s not worried about a Trump presidency like some are (#NeverTrump), pointing out that no matter how unusual a personality may be, a person elected to the presidency won’t be able to do anything they may want.

McConnell says the structure protects from ‘big mistakes’, arguing that there are built in constitutional constraints in our system to protect us.

Watch:

Okay don’t throw anything at me, but even though I hate agreeing with McConnell, I do on this point.

I’m not at the Brad Thor level of worry when it comes to Trump. The worst I think we’ll get from Trump is that he placates the masses by making ‘bad deals’ with the Republican Establishment. Yes, his economic protectionism is very bad, but he’ll have to get Congress to agree to enact that. He can’t just do it unilaterally and I don’t believe Republicans will go for that.

I think at the end of the day, should Trump win, that he will end up being a typical RINO president, making deals with Congress and ensuring he has good press. He will disappoint us greatly and he won’t be great for America, but I don’t think he will be worse than Hillary or even Obama. Some things will improve, others will not.

He’s not a caudillo type, as Thor suggests. Maybe I’m wrong, but I just don’t see his predictions coming true.
