It still baffles the mind how the White House can still tout Yemen as a success, and even MSNBC couldn’t understand it. So they grilled White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest on this:
Earnest says the goal of US counter-terrorism policy is to keep Yemen from becoming a safe-haven that can be used to launch attacks on the US and I guess on that basis they call it a success.
But as we all know now the Yemeni capital is currently in the hands of Iranian terrorists (Houthis) and is currently being bombed by Saudi Arabia and the gulf states, with two other terrorist groups (Al Qaeda, ISIS) vying for power. Its not just chaos, it’s on the verge of becoming a terrorist state controlled by Iran, the very thing the US doesn’t want.
But hey, I guess we all measure success in different ways.
