Nanny Bloomberg already demanding tougher gun control laws after shooting in Colorado

This from Politico:

Asked about the Colorado mass shootings at a movie theater showing “The Dark Knight Rises” in Aurora, Colo., that killed at least 12 people, Bloomberg said politicians needed to offer policy proposals in addition to prayers and sympathy.

“Soothing words are nice,” Bloomberg said during an interview on WOR News Talk Radio 710 in New York City. “But maybe it’s time the two people who want to be president of the United States stand up and tell us what they’re going to do about it, because this is obviously a problem across the country. And everybody always says, ‘Isn’t it tragic?’”

“I mean, there’s so many murders with guns every day,” he continued. “It’s just gotta stop. And instead of these two people, President [Barack] Obama and governor [Mitt] Romney talking in broad things about, they want to make the world a better place. OK. Tell us how. And this is a problem. No matter where you stand on the Second Amendment, no matter where you stand on guns, we have a right to hear from both of them, concretely, not just in generalities, specifically, what are they going to do about guns?”

    And so it begins…

Bucky Beaverton couldn’t wait to be asked that question and make his ignorant statement. Predictable and ridiculous.

The outcome would have been different if a member of the audience was armed too.

    • pistol pete

Sober,I thought the same thing when I first heard this.If we had national CCW a lot of innocent lives would be spared.Nothing discourages somebody intent on doing bodily harm than a gaping chest wound.

      • Sober_Thinking

        Agreed! 🙂

    • It might have not been different for the simple fact that Theater rooms are dark, full of people, and it would have been damned hard from an armed audience to be able to locate the gunman and get a good aim. my feeling is that it would have been a massacre either way on this one….

      • Sober_Thinking

Perhaps. You make a good point… but if the armed defender were near this evil slime, it would have been a more positive outcome in all likelihood.

    • MaroonRepublic

      I’ll play their game.

I think this tragedy was setup by the Justice department to help push their agenda to control firearms in this county.

That’s more believable than any narrative they push toward the Tea Party.

      • Sober_Thinking

    • warpmine

Here you go something to refute that statement.

      • Sober_Thinking

Thanks for the link… I had that in mind when I wrote my comment.

It doesn’t refute my statement, it actually supports it I think.

        • warpmine

That was my point, refuting false claims. CCL make everyone safe.

          • Sober_Thinking

Sorry, yeah I realized my mistake later. My bad… you’re good. 🙂

  • pistol pete

Mr. Bloomberg, you are the most base of opportunists.I live near Chicago where murders are a nightly occurence, and there is not a registered gun owner among the lot.My Colt Python and I refuse to be intimidated, bullied or coerced into surrendering rights granted to me by the second amendment.(you know, that constitution thing that was written by some old white guys back in the day?)If you want my gun, come take it.PS-bring body bags-Pete don’t play.

  • RocklinConservative

Please. Stop making it about guns and start making it about people. R.E.S.P.O.N.S.I.B.I.L.I.T.Y.

  • StrangernFiction

no matter where you stand on guns

We know where Barry stands, he likes arming drug cartels. If Obama pushes this it will be interesting to see if Mitt will actually put Fast and Furious front and center.

    • warpmine

Speaking of which, did Obamakov do his press commentary on time. Supposed to have been 11:20AM

  • conservative58

They need to start prosecuting the criminals who commit the murders! The criminals know they can work the system and be back out on the streets in no time at all.

We have laws to protect citizens, and we need the Justice Department to do their part in punishing the criminals and stop slapping them on the wrists.

As far as gun control, the criminal thugs will always have guns!

    • keninil

Right, having 14 to 20+ years between the crime and punishment is not a deterrent. Executions with 2 years of the crime should be the goal. Yes you will make mistakes (and any prosecutor making one of these mistakes for his career should be allow to be executed too), but until they stop the 10s of thousand of abortion “mistakes” every year, I have no sympathy.

  • Joe

    double comment – sorry

  • sDee

“what are they going to do about guns?”

Let us law adding citizens carry them into movie theaters.

    • RocklinConservative

      I totally agree!!

Romey should say: “As soon as cloning becomes possible I going to deploy clones of that 71 year old in Florida, that used his concealed weapon to thwart a couple of armed thieves, to every multi-plex in the country.”

    • the best way to clone him is to arm every law abiding citizen and allow to take their guns most anywhere.

    • keninil

Unfortunately (?) teens probably can’t get a concealed carry permit — yet!!

      • KenInMontana

I believe that in most States, one has to be 21 before a handgun can be purchased or carried, concealed or openly.

  • What disgusting Bastards, the death toll isn’t even final and already they’re using this to push their agenda to disarm america.

Hey Bloomie – Look at this >>

    Just this week

71 year old saves lives with his gun !

How I wish he or someone like him was at that Batman movie so it would have ended better.

    • keninil

He certainly did more for the cause of concealed carry than all of us talkers!!

  • A plane leaves for Great Britian every hour on the hour from JFK, there is my recommendation for “your” problem… There is a reason we kicked you out over 200 years ago.

  • I have news for you bloomie. It’s not the guns that are the problem- it goes way deeper than that and you know it.
For the past 30 years progressives have been taking God out of the schools and out of every part of public places, and replaced Him with every perversion under the sun. Humanist/secularist/anti God crap taught in schools. People have been taught that they have evolved from slime, that the government gives rights. Abortion is a right- the CHOICE to MURDER a baby is a right, yet sea turtle nests are federally protected. The choice to kill yourself is a right. People have grown up not knowing about a loving Creator who gives rights to each unique individual. In our society, there is no such thing as sin- there’s only ignorance because of circumstances. They’ve been taught by our own government to covet, and if you want something but don’t have, it’s the fault of someone else and you have every right to have what they have.
30 years and our society has no respect for life or other people’s property- and YOU PEOPLE Bloomie, you are the ones who have brought this on through stinking government programs and government “education” and then you have the nerve to cry when people act worse than animals. You people have screwed up our society and then when people’s natural instincts come out, you expect those who still believe in the dignity of life and loving our neighbors to give up our means of protection?! You have a lot nerve- you and the rest of you anti 2nd Amendment jackwagons.

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined nor
determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better
for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an
unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man..” Thomas Jefferson

“The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States,
who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms . . . ” Samuel Adams

“It’s about our rights… to protect ourselves from all of you guys up there…” Suzanna Gratia Hupp

    • 100% agreed.

    • keninil

First, they need to take guns out of movies and video games!!

    • warpmine

      Never seen that, thanks!

  • JohnOfPhiladelphia

As we speak, the grin on Obama’s disgusting face would make the Mad Hatter himself foam with envy.

  • 911Infidel

Note to Piers Morgan: Sod off you stupid twit.

Note to Nanny Bloomberg: Listen stupid, a gun is an inanimate object. It is only as useful as the person behind it. It can be a good tool or a bad tool. But blaming all gun owners and all guns for gun crime is straight up stupid politics.

Maybe if you weren’t such a wus and took a few gun classes you might actually go buy yourself a clue.

  • Some people mostly Libtards, but often libtards in disguise… pray for events like this so they can push their anti-gun nonsense! When normal people like us hear about this, out thought are of shock and horror and pray for victims… Their thoughts are… Oh… I though it would NEVER happen! Thank goodness it has… Now my agenda can be pushed forward… Sick mentality!

  • Piers Morgan… Voted Village Idiot in perpetuity!

  • NoToTyrants

Murder is illegal in Colorado, yet it didn’t stop James Holmes.

What makes the gun control advocates believe that making guns illegal would have stopped him from obtaining and using a gun?

Making firearms illegal would only serve to restrict access to law abiding people who would use a firearm to protect themselves from people like James Holmes.

Are bombs illegal in Israel, or Spain, or Bali, or London? Is hijacking planes and flying them into buildings full of innocent people illegal in the United States? Is releasing Sarin gas in a crowded subway illegal in Tokyo?

    • Just point the gun control freaks to the Chicago stats.

      More info:

      • keninil

Right, Chicago has at least 12 killed every weekend !!

        • James1754

And it is next to impossible to legally own a gun in the city. Of course this keeps guns out of the hands of the criminals!

  • mjs_28s

Typical over reaction. Several hundred million guns in the country yet more people drown in swimming pools than die from gun related violence.

Please, lets always lead through fear and over reaction! Lets have more Bloombergs! We need more protection from everything that exists.

Ok, I lied. This is how you turn people more and more into dependent minions. Can’t they just chalk this stuff up to a wack job and leave it at that? This early in the case we don’t even know if any kind of stronger gun law would have prevented it. The guy had smoke grenades and bullet resistant armor! Clearly he planned ahead and getting a fire arm illegally is not exactly a hard thing to do. Bloomberg is just going to make it easier for criminals and harder for the good people to have a gun if they so choose to own one.

They can’t even keep heroin and other drugs out of prisoner’s hands with all the security that there is already. Like more gun laws prevent crimes. Oi

  • 12grace

Never let a good crisis go to waste. Bloomberg is a far-left leaning “useful idiot”.

He welcomes illegals, supports higher taxes and regulations for businesses and caters to minorities at every turn. This is why businesses are leaving New York in droves.

The leftist govt’ is systematically taking away our rights and freedoms, we have the second amendment ( Right to Bear Arms) right and we must never allow them to take away our guns.
Our forefathers knew that the people must be armed to keep the government from becoming a dictatorship.

  • sjmom

It defies logic to think tougher gun control laws will stop criminals or the criminally insane from arming themselves but they will stop everyone else from defending themselves. This is just another tool of the Left to disarm us and arm the govt.

  • Nukeman60

Since this administration likes arming drug cartels, I’m going to put a new sign in my front yard (I live in Illinois) stating that “I am a drug cartel. I buy Tylenol and I drink caffeine. They are protected by my glock, but if you wish to arm me with the good stuff, Mr President, then you have my number. Call me”. The sooner Illinois gets ‘concealed carry’, the safer we will all be in this state.

  • Army_Pilot1967

I heard on a radio talk show several years back that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of gun control laws already passed, but they are not enforced. So what is passing more laws going to do? And if the government tries to completely eliminate private gun ownership, just watch the run on gunshops before any law can be passed and enacted. That’s probably already happening anyway.

  • What are we going to do about guns? How about enforcing the laws that are already on the books? How about when we do background checks on people wanting guns, we check to see if they have a history of mental illness, or if they were confined to some psyciatric institution, or are on some sort of medication for mental illness? Medical records are usually sealed or private, but if you’re committed to a mental institution or have a serious history of mental illness, perhaps you could be put on a Federal Data Base that could be checked by gun shop owners to see if you are a potential threat? If we can do the same thing with convicted felons, why can’t we do it with people who have a history of severe mental illness? You are never, ever, going to completely stop crazy people from killing other people and the above idea is by no means foolproof. But what you can do is take background checks a little more seriously and make them a lot more thorough, especially at gun shows or in pawn shops, where it’s really easy to buy just about anything, especially guns.

    • James1754

They already do that. The law changed after Virginia Tech. As far as gun shows and pawn shops, they have to comply with the same laws, you can’t sell firearms without a Federal Firearms License and the rules do not change at gun shows(that a liberal lie).

  • stage9

You want to stop murder? Then the heart of man must change. And only God is big enough to do that. Taking guns away will no more stop the evil in the heart that leads to murder than putting a cow on the tracks will stop a speeding train.

It’s the heart of man that “is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

Change the heart, you change the man; Change the man, you change the family; Change the family, you change the community; Change the community and you can change the world.

  • poljunkie

Bloomberg just couldnt wait to get out to his podium.

    Show some respect Mr Mayor.

  • Don

You could add Bloomberg’s IQ and Pelosi’s IQ together and divide by two and still begin with a decimal point. How is it possible people this so intellectually challenged get elected to public office? Un-freaking-believable.

    • KenInMontana

  • James1754

Another loon heard from. Bloomberg is violently anti-firearms. He is another one of those idiots that want no civilian firearms ownership.
I wonder if anyone bothered to tell Nanny Bloomberg that his wish was fulfilled at the movie theater in Aurora, it was a gun free zone. Therefore the public was prohibited from being able to defend themselves.

  • B-Funk

Hey Libs, I know a Marine that can kill you with his fingers. How is gun control going to help?

I hate to go all Alex Jones, cause the guy bugs me sometimes, but the way the left capitalizes on stuff like this, I admit I wonder if some of it isn’t really manufactured. I only say stuff like this since the details of F&F have come out. A gov’t that can do that, can certainly do something like this. Okay, conspiracy moment over.

  • anyonebutbarry2012

enough gun laws already. this administration these progressives, like the borders wide open, all the illegals armed and us with bean bag shooters or nothing. Thoughts out to the victims their families in Colorado. But more gun control is not the answer.

  • KenInMontana

I’d call for Piers Morgan to be deported back to England, but the English don’t want him either.

  • jdbaird

Politicizing tragedy, gotta love these morons.

  • Silent Archer

In 1976, Washington, D.C., instituted one of the strictest gun-control laws in the country. The murder rate since that time has risen 134 percent (77.8 per 100,000 population) while the overall rate for the country has declined 2 percent. Washington, D.C., politicians find it easy to blame Virginia’s less-stringent gun laws for the D.C. murder rate. Yet Virginia Beach, Virginia’s largest city with almost 400,000 residents, has had one of the lowest rates of murder in the country — 4.1 per 100,000.

In New York City, long known for strict regulation of all types of weapons, only 19 percent of the 390 homicides in 1960 involved pistols. By 1972, this proportion had jumped to 49 percent of 1,691. In 1973, according to the New York Times, there were only 28,000 lawfully possessed handguns in the nation’s largest city, but police estimated that there were as many as 1.3 million illegal handguns there.

In 1986, Maryland banned small, affordable handguns called Saturday night specials. Within two years, Maryland’s murder rate increased by 20 percent, surpassing the national murder rate by 33 percent. Then Maryland passed a one-gun-a-month law. Yet between 1997 and 1998, 600 firearms recovered from crime scenes were traced to Maryland gun stores. Virginia, one of only two other states with a similar law, ranked third as a source of guns used by criminals in other states.

On the other hand, New Hampshire has almost no gun control and its cities are rated among the safest in the country. Across the border in Massachusetts, which has very stringent gun-control laws, cities of comparable size have two to three times as much crime as New Hampshire.

Vermont has the least restrictive gun-control law. It recognizes the right of any Vermonter who has not otherwise been prohibited from owning a firearm to carry concealed weapons without a permit or license. Yet Vermont has one of the lowest crime rates in America, ranking 49 out of 50 in all crimes and 47th in murders.

States which have passed concealed-carry laws have seen their murder rate fall by 8.5 percent, rapes by 5 percent, aggravated assaults by 7 percent and robbery by 3 percent.

Texas is a good example. In the early 1990s, Texas’s serious crime rate was 38 percent above the national average. Since then, serious crime in Texas has dropped 50 percent faster than for the nation as a whole. All this happened after passage of a concealed-carry law in 1994.

  • KenInMontana

Considering that the 300 plus State and Federal laws have had zero effect on the illegal use of firearms, he arrives at the conclusion that another will produce the desired effect.

Let’s see, next Friday it has been rumored that Obama plans on signing the unconstitutional UN Gun Ban Treaty. This same administration created a scenario with ‘Fast and Furious’ that was to lead to the death’s of 300 mexican’s and two American border patrol agents Specifically, to take away our God given Second Ammendment right’s. They had absolutely no qualms about those death’s at all. We also know that their ultimate plans are to enslave us and then commit mass genocide upon our Nation, none of which can be done without taking away our Firearms first. Probably just a Giant coincidence that exactly one week, from signing the Treaty, which takes away our Firearms,Obama is gift wrapped a pre-text,for hammering home for a week,a need for that Treaty. An administration, that had no guilt at all, about three hundred people being murdered, couldn’t possibly have a connection to the shooter…Could they? Notice also, all three guns just happen to be from classification’s that Obama want banned. AR-15 semi-Auto,pump action shot gun and semi auto pistol, another coincidence. Look for all this weekend going into next week a drumbeat calling for support for new Firearms laws culminating by a call for the Support for the UN Treaty. Then you’ll know whether this horrific massacre was a coincidence.

Batman is an illusion. Only you can defend your life and your loved ones.

A “lone gunman” shoots up a Colorado movie theater and the liberals are demanding still more gun control. How was a shooting like this possible, because no one else in the theater was armed.

We have trained ourselves to rely on an imaginary Batman to protect us, having delegated the responsibility of self-defense to self-important “professionals.”

The gunman counted on his victims being unarmed, so no one was equipped to take out the gunman before he could affect his killing spree. Batman was camped out at the donut shop, as always, and the hapless victims of Gotham City were unarmed.

How can we prevent tragedies like this? We can’t. But we can end them after only one or two shots have been fired, instead of praying for the villain to run out of ammunition. There is no alternative to self-defense. When the shooting starts, if you are not prepared to shoot back, Batman will not swoop in to save you.

The good news, which will largely go unreported, is that the gun shops and shooting ranges will be busier than ever in the coming days. Batman is an illusion, always has been. But last night’s tragic event illuminates this morning’s epiphany: The only person who can defend your life and your love ones is you.

  • Whacked out crooks will not obey the laws that’s why they are called criminals–pass all of the dumbass laws against guns and it will not prevent criminals from having them–it will just make it easier for them to commit their crimes against a defenseless society.

  • CLRoemke

Our individual rights and wellbeing come from our creator

How could this travesty occur today? For the past 30 years progressive Democrats have been taking God out of the public schools and every public place in America, and replaced Him with government given rights. Abortion has become a right, euthanasia is a right and our society has no respect for the unborn or the elderly.

People have grownup not knowing about a loving Creator who gives rights to each unique individual (God given rights). In our society, liberal Democrats have been preaching there is no such thing as sin.

Then when people’s natural instincts cause anarchism, you expect those who still believe in the sanctity and dignity of life; to give up their only means of self-protection and to delegate responsibility for their own lives and the wellbeing of their love ones to the very same politicians who have been legislating God out of our society, been running down our country, and demeaning our very way of life.

The most dangerous places in America for our kids “Gun-Free Zones”

Movie theaters in America have a strict policy against firearms on their premises – even for patrons with concealed handgun permits. This policy of barring concealed carry extends to our post offices, government buildings, public K-12 schools, and to the majority of our college campuses. What our progressive liberal Democrat politicians have created is “Gun-Free Zones” that are target rich environment.

Basically it is a sign that says “Nobody here has a gun, we are all completely defenseless, come attack us.” It is an invitation. I firmly believe that “Gun-Free Zones” do not work. When the progressive liberal Democrats drove God out of our lives, they allowed anarchists to fill the void to create the chaos we have been experiencing.

I believe that allowing permit holders to be able to carry their firearms to theaters, to schools and on campus will decrease the incidence of crime. It has been proven that more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens has a direct correlation to a decrease in crime which would please everyone but the progressive liberal Democrat politicians who need your votes to get reelected.

  • Mike Lee

Thus proving once again how stupid both Bloomberg and Morgan are. They can’t handle reality. What is it that liberals lack that requires them to create fantasies rather than deal with reality? I guess it’s how they cope with the real world. I find it depressing. There is no way to avoid these things. Pass whatever laws you want to. With billions of people on the planet, some are going to be demented killers. They will always find a way to kill and hurt other people. The knee-jerk reactions of liberals like Bloomberg is always to take away our rights and give the govt more control. F you, Bloomberg. Do your bodyguards not have guns? WHy shoudl you and your family be protected but not mine? You disgust me.
