I think I won’t be going the Obamacare route…

US NEWS – The Obama Administration has been claiming that insurance companies will be competing for your dollars under the Affordable Care Act, but apparently they haven’t surveyed the nation’s top hospitals.

Americans who sign up for Obamacare will be getting a big surprise if they expect to access premium health care that may have been previously covered under their personal policies. Most of the top hospitals will accept insurance from just one or two companies operating under Obamacare.

“This doesn’t surprise me,” said Gail Wilensky, Medicare advisor for the second Bush Administration and senior fellow for Project HOPE. “There has been an incredible amount of focus on the premium cost and subsidy, and precious little focus on what you get for your money.”

Regulations driven by the Obama White House have indeed made insurance more affordable – if, like Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, you’re looking only at price. But responding to Obamacare caps on premiums, many insurers will, in turn, simply offer top-tier doctors and hospitals far less cash for services rendered.

Watchdog.org looked at the top 18 hospitals nationwide as ranked by U.S. News and World Report for 2013-2014. We contacted each hospital to determine their contracts and talked to several insurance companies, as well.

The result of our investigation: Many top hospitals are simply opting out of Obamacare.

Chances are the individual plan you purchased outside Obamacare would allow you to go to these facilities. For example, fourth-ranked Cleveland Clinic accepts dozens of insurance plans if you buy one on your own. But go through Obamacare and you have just one choice: Medical Mutual of Ohio.

These hospitals need a revenue flow. With the high deductibles on these plans they will be trying to collect from thousands of patients. The legal fees will be astronomical and trying to collect from liens against personal property is a long term proposition.
    It is called a business.

    • http://www.scifihistory.net/ E. Lee Zimmerman

      BOOM! There’s part of it.

  • Sentinel

Well, that’s one way to stop this abomination. Of course, hopefully, most of the people won’t buy it either. And then of course, there are all the doctors who are quitting because of this. And then there’s… this is so destined to fail (it already has on many levels). And how quaint that Nobama and his wicked regime are so determined to keep pushing this anyway.
It’s encouraging that a couple MSM news outlets are now highlighting what a train wreck this is… but there are still far too many who are willing to carry Nobama’s water and spoon him at night. This insanity must end.

    • http://www.scifihistory.net/ E. Lee Zimmerman

Sorry, but that isn’t how to stop this. That’ll only exacerbate an already over-tasked system (i.e. Medicaid & Medicare). As I said above (you can find it), physicians and hospitals cannot legally deny/refuse care and keep their licenses.

      • http://boogieforward.us/ K-Bob

They can refuse ambulances that call ahead. They can claim beds are full and bus people to crappy hospitals miles away. There’s a lot of ways to game the system, which I guess is why Hospital Administrators are paid the big bucks.

But it was always like that.

        • http://www.scifihistory.net/ E. Lee Zimmerman

Precisely why some ambulances DO NOT call ahead. No, there’s legal precedent that they cannot turn away urgent care situations IF they have no available beds; they can’t even turn them away IF they have no available doctors.

More often than not, administrators are paid the big bucks to help facilitate keeping the hospitals OUT of legal trouble, but Obamacare is fraught with legal menace.

          • http://boogieforward.us/ K-Bob

Indeed. It’s gonna take a massive team of lawyers to keep them out of trouble. Graft will be huge, too.

With everyone opting out there will be no one left to support Obamacare. YES!

    • http://www.scifihistory.net/ E. Lee Zimmerman

I understand your delight, but this isn’t how the healthcare system works.

In this day and age, medical professionals cannot not legally turn away an ailing patient or refuse care and expect to keep one’s medical licenses; that’s exactly what the Odministration is banking its future on this being successful. If hospitals and doctors ‘opt out,’ they’ll still be legally responsible to provide care for patients BUT they’ll have no means with which to bill Uncle Sam since they deliberately allowed their contract to lapse … which will only further exacerbate costs on an already mismanaged system.

(This is why so many older physicians have made it known that they’ll simply retire; they understand the system — they know they can’t refuse care and keep their licenses in order — so it’s time to get out while the getting is good, and go be a director somewhere instead of doing what they want to do: save lives.)

Necessarily, these costs are always passed on the paying customers — that being you and me — which ends up driving healthcare costs higher and higher. As costs continue to go up — as all of the diligent reporting on that topic is being ratcheted up by the Mainstream Press, I suspect, in collusion with the White House — eventually the regular folks Bill O’Reilly claims to be looking out for will demand a greater fix … and, voila, single payer.

Having been in that field for a number of years off-and-on, I thought about doing a web-based article on it; but I just never got around to it.

      • sjmom

No doubt you know more than me about the industry but what I am saying is I believe Obamacare, one way or the other, is going to collapse before it gets started. The news is continually bad and will continue to get worse and the cries to defund and repeal will get louder. Even now the Dems are running away from it.

        • http://www.scifihistory.net/ E. Lee Zimmerman

It can’t, and that’s what our side has to accept at this point. It’s ‘settled law,’ and that only matters to our side … which means that you can bet the DC insiders won’t allow it to collapse on its own weight. Dems are running from it b/c they don’t have ANY core beliefs except what’ll get me re-elected next time; this won’t, so they’re running from it. But as a matter of principle, our side won’t due that — even Romney altered his platform from ‘give everybody a waiver’ to ‘repeal AND replace’ once he was directed to do so by the Republican establishment.

As I’ve tried to say in the past, the healthcare industry IS where all of the money is at; as such, DC is NOT going to let it go. That’s why both Republicans and Democrats will do everything they can to keep their fingers in that always expanding pie.

Elections are one thing, but they’re not ALL things. That’s what the Republicans have lost here. You can’t create a system like this — or sit back and allow it to be created — and then not see the beast fed. That’s exactly why the Odministation sought to tie Obamacare INTO Medicare & Medicaid from the get go; they’re institutions bigger than themselves. No one will allow their failure, and thus we have Frankenstein who’ll get up off the table all on his own as soon as one person receives care with Obamacare. That ship has sailed, and we need to now turn our eyes toward recalling the fleet instead of sitting back and doing nothing.

Unfortunately, as I said, the Republicans and the Democrats won’t let it sink. There’s just too much money at stake.

          • B-Funk

It’s all for single-payer. Obummercare is meant to fail first, then have blame fall on insurance companies. It could go either way with CBS and others reporting on gov’t failures. What I’ve discovered is that there is a serious gearing up of ‘black market’ medicine going on in America. i.e.- http://atlas.md/wichita/

          • sjmom

There are 75 cases about Obamacare either at or on their way to the Supreme Court and one is very interesting on Constitutional grounds because the law originated in the Senate instead of the House which is unconstitutional. As I have said Obamacare is going down one way or the other.

  • Laurel

This is the link I posted to a progressive on another thread.

My question is how long before people form their angry mob and force these hospitals to accept Obamacare through licensing etc?

    • badbadlibs

Did you get a coherent response from the progressive?

      • Laurel

        No he ran.

        • badbadlibs

          Naturally.

          • Laurel

            Yes, naturally.

Hello Laurel, this is a little off topic but I ran across this documentary and I wanted to pass it on to you. I’ve read some of your long post and I know your very perceptive with great understanding. I hope you don’t mind.
Its in the field of meds and other deep subjects to do with humans. I hope you find this as interesting as I have. I’m not asking for feed back. Its just food for thought for you. To do with as you wish.

          Incredible and somewhat scary stuff:

  • Christopher Wilkes

    can anyone see this post?

    • http://www.scifihistory.net/ E. Lee Zimmerman

      Nope.

      • Dr. Strangelove

        Me neither.

  • http://www.scifihistory.net/ E. Lee Zimmerman

Well, it’ll end up being to their doom. What will happen if the opt out is that, eventually, they’ll be found in violation of their contract with CMS. Then what’ll happen is that they will be required by law (as they are currently) to treat ailing victims who are part of Medicare and Medicaid but they won’t be allowed contract reimbursements due to their own willful suspension of the contract.

  • badbadlibs

The fact that obammy and his gestapo are turning America into a third rate, third world health care country is only shocking to the faction of humanity that is totally warped and brain dead to begin with.

    • Dr. Strangelove

Yup. All of a sudden, the Honey Boo Boo voters are going, “Hey, how come my butt hurts?”

      • badbadlibs

Honey boo boo….now, there’s a show for the uninformed masses. !

        • Dr. Strangelove

Rather than just parrot Rush’s “low-information voter” I made up an appropriate one of my own. I saw a two or three minute segment of the show on YT and that was quite enough to get the idea.

  • LIBERTYUSA

… unless you all impeach Chairman Obama and repeal his Obamacare the cliff is only steps away .”

  • Jack76

    Who wrote the Obamacare legislation?
Certainly not Pelosi or Reid – neither one is smart enough.

    • WinMissouri

      Rahm Emanuels brother wrote it.

      • badbadlibs

Yes, and that monster thinks once you’re 65 you’ve had your life. What rotten people those parents must have been, to have spawned devil twins.

    • http://politicalknow.blogspot.com/ SheerPolitics

Congressmen and Senators don’t actually write legislation–guess it takes too much time out of their campaigning and fundraising. Special interest groups write the legislation, which none of the democrats bothered to read before passing it.

    • Dr. Strangelove

It’s the same POS that the leftoid bureaucrats wrote for Hillarycare, just more bloated.

  • WinMissouri

The list is confusing compared to the headline. Obamacare providers in Missouri are Coventry and Anthem. Therefore, it appears Barnes Jewish Christian Hospitals will be accepting Obamacare.

  • spin43

The feds are eliminating many medical procedures for seniors on Medicare . They need early deaths to save money for Obamascare and the welfare state.

  • Always On Watch

Just you wait. When Obama supporters find out that they can no longer get insured surgery, such as the one I just had on an emergency basis for retinal detachment so as to prevent total blindness, the howls will rise to the heavens.
