Netanyahu defends his Arab-bussing comments, ‘no Palestinian state’ comments

Netanyahu was interviewed by MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell today where he explained why he doesn’t support a Palestinian state, as things stand today. In short, he explains that if we just give a state to the Palestinians then it will be armed by Iran and it will be just like Hamas. Netanyahu argues that for a true peace to exist between Israel and the Palestinians, things would have to dramatically change.

To those who believe he’s walking away from his comments on this, this is what he actually said:

The prime minister warned in an interview with the NRG news website Monday that a Zionist Union-led government would push for relinquishing territory, a move he said was tantamount to “burying its head in the sand.”

“I think that anyone who moves to establish a Palestinian state today, and evacuate areas, is giving radical Islam an area from which to attack the State of Israel,” Netanyahu said. “This is the true reality that has been created in past years. Those that ignore it are burying their heads in the sand. The left does this, buries its head in the sand, time and again.”

Asked directly whether no Palestinian state would be created under his leadership, the prime minister answered: “Indeed.”

Context is key. Netanyahu will not just evacuate areas and give Palestinians a state. He says in the interview they would have to abandon Hamas, recognize Israel, and there would have to be real security in place for there ever to be a true sustainable peace. And that’s just not where things are today and therefore there will be no Palestinian state.

He also defended his Arab-bussing comments, pointing out that he wasn’t talking about Arabs voting, but rahter about huge amounts of foreign money being used to bus Arabs to the poll in order to defeat his party, something his detractors all want to ignore.

Watch:

The interview wasn’t great. All of her quotes and sources were left-wing and it was somewhat hostile. But I’m sure he knew that going into it. The only time I rolled my eyes though was when Mitchell condescendingly said ‘words have meaning’, as if she’s holding Netanyahu to what he said or something.
