Obama expected to nominate Hagel today

Looks like our report on the 29 when we announced that Hagel would be Obama’s pick for defense secretary has been vindicated:

NY POST – President Obama is expected today to nominate former Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel — a Republican and a Vietnam veteran — for defense secretary.

But Hagel, who would succeed Leon Panetta, is expected to face a fierce confirmation fight because of his stances on Iran and Israel, fellow Republicans said yesterday.

“This is an in-your-face nomination by the president to all of us who are supportive of Israel,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Hagel voted against going to war with Iraq, and once said “the Jewish lobby” intimidates the Senate on Israel.

Many are complaining about Hagel’s pick for Secretary of Defense but it’s as I’ve said in the past, no one Obama nominates will be a good pick for the position. In this case Hagel is a terrible pick, but the problem is more to do with Obama and his radical ideology than anything else. So while I disagree with Obama’s pick of Hagel, I can’t think of a single nomination that I’ve agreed with so far and would probably hate any person he chose to fill that position.

If Obama nominated someone we’d approve of, that person would end up butting heads with Obama for a short while and then resigning.
