Today was the annual March for Life in Washington DC. According to news reports, thousands turned out in the cold weather to March on Washington and protest abortion. According to the USA Today, Patrick Kelly, chairman of the march told a large crowd at the National Mall “We may be freezing, but we are freezing for the best cause in the world.”

USA Today also cites that protesters chanted “Hey, hey, ho, ho, abortion has got to go” and “We love babies, yes we do, we love babies, how about you?!” and that the atmosphere was great: “The atmosphere was upbeat, even as their signs whipped in the brutal wind: “Babies are precious”, “#teamlife” and “I am the pro-life generation.””

    As a mother of a pre term, preemie who’s baby was the size that in some cases could be comparable with some late stage abortions…..

    I applaud and commend all who believe in and support LIFE.

      Me too, pol. My son came 6 or 7 weeks early (5.25 lbs) and therefore is one Wendy Davis would filibuster for the right to kill.

        ♥ My son weighed 2 pounds!
        Spent 4 weeks in the NICU. But he came home a strapping 4 lbs! (26 years ago!!!)

          Oh my! He was tiny! Were you terrified?
          Mine was healthy but had weak sucking reflex so he spent 17 days in NICU for nourishment while he got strong enough to sustain himself. (Oddly enough, also 26 years ago)

            THAT such a coincidence and it ROCKS, that it was the same year!!!

            WE WERE SCARED!!!! SOOOO frightened, and worried, and every night at midnight, holding our breath to see if he lost or gained a gram.
            BUT THANKFULLY, aside from a little respiratory distress, he was FINE– He didn’t even need to be on a ventilator, or have any intubation.
            We were very fortunate and it was such a blessing that the pediatrician on call was an elderly Japanese man who was kind, genuine, and understanding.
            We moved from Cali in the 90’s but continued to stay in touch w/each year. He sent our son a long HS graduation card highlighting the day of his birth, and early years.
            When he passed away….I cried.

              I saw an episode of ‘ER’ years ago which had a segment about a premature birth, and the pediatrician went on at length explaining complications and side effects in frightening detail. I’ve always suspected that the purpose of that was to demean the concept of ‘viability’.

              I sure can relate to the fears though your situation must have been almost unbearable since he was such a wee one and in NICU so long.
              Your story about your doctor is sooo sweet. Bless him for being there for you especially years later! And your boy must have been a real scrapper at that weight not to need a ventilator or intubation! How early was he?
              When I brought mine home (after 17 days in NICU) I had to take his temp every time I woke him and measure every drop he drank. I was so afraid he would lose weight and they would think I was unfit. But the worst was when I was discharged from the hospital and he had to stay. I couldn’t stand being away from him even for a few hours.

                I remember the same feelings of trepidation you expressed!
                I also remember ….THE day I had our baby… Immediately after….I felt great, but the staff wanted me to REST.
                I felt fine and was up and ready to go!!! All the moms on the floor had their baby with them, or in the nearby nursery—yet ours was in the NICU….which was a few floors down, and a couple corridors away… which left me alone, scared and uneasy..
                My doc wrote up my discharge papers so I was able to stay an extra night…So that was 2. But our son stayed about 4 weeks. AND it was dreadfully painful going home each night after staying at the hospital all day and into the night. The upside was that the ENTIRE staff were so incredible. Accommodating and warm in every way.
                It was over a week before we were able to touch him, and even then it was through the isolette.
                We didn’t have any special instructions when we brought him home, although they “made” us take a preemie CPR course before leaving the hospital. I remember that freaked us out, on top of us already being nervous about such a tiny baby.

                Oh, he was two months early.

                  Our NICU experiences are a testament to the beautiful medical system we currently enjoy. In this new brave world I hope such wonderful people survive. Thanks for sharing about your pride and joy, pol.

    I join with Matt Ulrich, the Director of the “Helpers of God’s Precious Infants”, Seattle Chapter, and his group to pray in front of various abortion sites and the Helpers faithful presence at abortion mills has been the cause of closures. http://www.seattlehelpers.org
    This is from the introduction to the Helpers Prayer Book that I’d like to share:
    “We pray to obtain God’s mercy for the abortionist and staff who do the killing. Our peaceful, prayerful presence hopefully will disturb the conscience of the workers at the abortion mill and say to them that, though we love them, we will never accept what they do.
    We witness to those who pass by, praying that they will take notice of what is going on and be provoked to take action against the killing in their neighborhood.
    We plead with our prayers for the lives of the babies in the wombs of the pregnant women who are scheduled for abortions that day. We reach out to these women with the love of Christ. Prayer is essential because before a mother is able to physically abort her child, a ‘spiritual abortion’ must take place within her heart. This ‘spiritual abortion’ must be overcome by spiritual means…We are there with loving prayers for the unborn children who are doomed to die. The only love they may encounter in their short lives may be from those of us standing outside…”
    And we pray especially for Matt, “We continue to need prayers that God will give us the wisdom and courage to carry out His holy work.”

    God Bless all Americans standing in the freezing cold to embrace the unborn! Couples all over the world who would give their souls to have a child of their own and can’t! Instead of abortion, have the babies and offer them a great home….there are a multitude of people who would jump at the chance!

    Thanks Scoop for covering ‘The March for Life’ and sharing photos with us. Some in the GOP believe amnesty is the only way to attract Hispanics. IMHO, the photo you used on the ‘home page’ to highlight this article could be used to achieve the same goal. Most Hispanics are good Christians who oppose abortion and abhor the slaughter of the innocence.

    The problem is the GOP fails to promote their strong anti abortion base position of the party. Once again it’s the establishment members of the GOP that fear they may lose support from women voters. Of course that’s a farce. Any woman who might get upset is already voting for liberal Democrats.

    Speaking from experience, I know Latinos would react quite negatively if they were shown that photo. If you asked them if they would vote for someone supports killing that tiny life that fits into a hand, the answer by the majority will be a loud cry of NO WAY. But if you don’t go to their communities and show them that rich white liberals want them to kill their unborn children, they will never grasp the politics of abortion and progressivism. This is the way to attract the Hispanic vote via God’s will.

    If you are catholic you are more likely to understand what I am about to say, in church the priest says “This is the body of Christ”, and the devil inside a woman that goes through an abortion “This is my body” therefore I do with it as I please. I in this day would like to offer a moment of silence to honor the 55 million lives taken away from us .
