It’s being reported now that Trump is seriously considering a compromise comprehensive immigration bill and may include a call for that in his SOTU speech tonight:

I’m mixed on this. If Trump is actually going to follow through and build a wall/fence/secure the border, then I’ll have more latitude for compromising on an immigration bill.
But the other side of that coin is if we’re going to give legal status to illegals, but NOT give them full citizenship with voting rights (which they most certainly don’t deserve), then we all known that will end in disaster — because in the end they will all get full amnesty.
It may not be today or tomorrow, but Democrats will not stop until all the former illegals can vote for them. They will continually hyperventilate on the issue, calling them ‘second class citizens’ and liken the issue to slavery and Jim Crow until the bow breaks and Republican agree to make them citizens.
This is why we call legal status for illegals ‘amnesty’, and why it just isn’t a doable solution.
Honestly what we should do is make the country uninhabitable for illegals with respect to jobs and benefits. We need to turn off the entitlement spigot for illegals and make sure employers are hiring people with legal status.
But I really don’t think that will happen. So where this ends I don’t know….
