Rush: Bachmann jumped the shark over Gardasil causing mental retardation

report this ad

Rush had high praise for Bachmann’s performance last night, but in the clip below he says she’s gone too far today, jumping the shark over repeating the anecdote she heard last night after the debate that suggested that Garadasil might cause mental retardation:

I’m very curious if any of the reporters covering the Bachmann campaign were close by when this supposed incident happened. I just don’t believe it happened. I don’t see how there could have been time for it before her interview with Greta.

I don’t know. I don’t know what’s worse, that Bachmann would make up the encounter or confuse when it happened, or that she would repeat what that crazy lady said on national television. Either way, it’s bad.

Every campaign has reporters assigned to cover it. I don’t think it really happened the way Bachmann said it did.

Rush is right about Bachmnn and the shark. I also agree with his Newt analysis.

Rush is bewildered about Perry and tuition for illegals. I say it is just about the
demographics of Tesas, ie the vote. Typical politician !!

Rush’s warning about Bachmann attacking Perry was wrong . It served her, and us well by exposing a core issue for these candidates to debate.

Bachmann did weaken her strong showing on government overstep and crony capitalism with this anecdote. But, it will blow over, even if Rush does try and make it a red herring.

    • Anonymous

I disagree. Bachmann did well in the debate but she was terrible on Greta. She came across as the worst kind of nutjob by telling that story. We can only hope it blows over, but the media loves things like this and it taints all of them.

      • Which is part of Rush’s point…that instead of her performance in the debate being what we talk about today, it’s this silly Gardasil remark.

Right. And what she said on Greta should overshadow what she said during the debate. She totally destroyed her credibility. And seeing the responses on that other thread just makes it worse.

She did a lot of damage. Not just to herself but to all conservatives.

I wouldn’t say that she TOTALLY destroyed her credibility, but I agree that she did a lot of damage… Hopefully she’ll be able to make some type of recovery from this misstep…

            • Stick a fork in her. She’s done.

Best of all, she’s slated to appear on Leno this week, along with Charlie Sheen. If both of them are actually scheduled to be on in the same night, well, that amps up the craziness x 100.

er… Garadasil causing mental retardation isn’t a simple truth, since there’s no evidence of it doing that… but I understand the sentiment behind your statement…

      • That’s the Ron Paul defense. And, to put it bluntly, Ron Paul is a raving lunatic with anarchists as his support base.

Michele is dangerously close to imploding, along the lines of a Howard Dean “YEAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGHHH” moment. And that’s something I’d rather not see.

Eh, I don’t know if I’d claim she’s unelectable… Remember who she’d be going up against — the jug-eared jackass currently in the WH… A week-old bagel could win against him with the right campaign behind it…

      • If that’s the case, I’ll be glad to go to a Brugger’s, buy a bagel there, and drop it in the ballot box.

  • I think pretty much everyone else said it perfect on here. It is legitimate to criticize Perry on the issue as for how he went about it and if he should have done it at all, but to throw baseless accusations at him makes her look like the crazy guy under a bridge screaming “The aliens are coming!”. In a general election Obama and his media allies would destroy her. It might not be fair but it is the age we live in and she stepped right into this one herself.

  • Mr. EMT

    They all jumped the shark.
    This is pandering.
None of the candidates have bothered to check the CDC page, Perry seems to be the only one educated on the disease and treatment and prevention.
They should have at least researched it better so they would not have egg on their faces when they come at home from their moral highground of “No one should get vaccines”
Sounds a hell of a lot better than, “I got mentally retarded over gardasil!”

IMO she is uncool. Bachmann reminds me of the kind of woman who thinks if a man smiles at them, it is a marriage proposal – Just cause we smiled at her as a Congresswoman doesn’t mean we want her as our President.

Let’s be clear about HPV… It causes Cancer. That fact is undisputed. It’s best to vaccinate girls BEFORE they’re sexually active. Even if wait until marriage they could still get it because HPV has no symptoms for men.

Yes Gov. Perry went too far using an EO, but he’s apologized for that. I think though people are losing sight over what he was actually trying to achieve…

Bachmann jumped the shark a while ago. Bachmann is not a nice person. She takes the blowhard level up to 11.

  • I knew Perry was in for a long night when Bachmann walked onto the stage and gave a hug and kiss on the cheek to Mitt Romney and totally ignored Perry who came out and shook hands and spoke to those who preceded him on stage. Bachmann has a visceral dislike for Perry, which is fine; I’m no big fan of his either. But she seems to be willing to say or do anything to get at him, and that’s not good for a candidate of the President of the United States.

    • Bachman is a NUT. I know this personally.

      • Anonymous

How do you “know this personally”? I’m no fan of Bachmann, but please don’t throw statements like that out there without supporting information.

  • Rush is for Perry, that’s fine. He wants to beat Romney and Perry at this point is the only viable alternative. I heard Laura Ingraham’s interview with Huckabee and it was the most biased non liberal interview I think I’ve ever heard. She led the Huckster down the Garden Path of anti-Perry Perryism. It was stunning. So I think Rush is playing the game now with Romney. All fair in Love and War.

    • Anonymous

Rush is a conservative and will support the conservatives. Romney is not a conservative. Perry is barely a conservative. Rush will not endorse a candidate for the primaries but has had good things to say about all the conservative candidates and also Palin. He will, however, call it like he sees it. We don’t have to agree, of course.

Remember just a month ago when she was supposed to have replaced Sarah Palin.

Anyway, Perry can’t go after MB on the mental retardation story because it will highlight his gardasil problem. Perry’s chief of staff was a top merck lobbyist.

    Forget the $5000.

    • Anonymous

Not at that time he wasn’t–that was a few years earlier.

      • Anonymous

That’s a pretty thick cord connecting Perry to Merck. Aren’t you even curious how Perry decided that this vaccine produced by Merck should be mandatory? Someone brought it to his attention. He’s not a cancer/HPV specialist. Don’t you think he needs to explain? I know he “hates cancer”, but there had to more to it then that.

        • Anonymous

I expect he will if this continues to be an issue for some. The CDC recommendation is to give it to girls at about 11-12 years of age. The vaccine is effective and is deemed safe. His wife is also registered nurse with a Master’s degree in Nursing–maybe she encouraged him to do this–I don’t know. But the former Chief of staff that is being discussed who once worked ofr Merck among other companies was not working for them at that time–about 2-3 years earlier he did. Lobbyists have many clients usually. The “mandate” never took effect as the legislature did not like him issueing an executive order and ultimately, he did allow the wishes of Texas’ residents to stand on this issue. He has admitted he made a mistake. I wonder how many other Governors also received $5,000 from Merck that year? I don’t know the answer, but I have to assume there were others. Sarah Palin’s Alaska was very proud when she was Governor that they secured federal funds to give the same exact vaccine to all Alaska girls aged 9-18 for free. Federal funds vs. campaign money? Sounds like 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

          • Anonymous

The Palin stuff is addressed today here. http://michellemalkin.com/2011/09/13/the-right-and-wrong-way-to-talk-about-gardasil/

It’s definitely not 6 of one…There is no mandate and there is no Merck/Palin connection.

If, in fact, Perry and his Chief of staff had only a passing relationship with Merck then this will pass. We’ll find out soon.

I agree that 5000 that year and the 28000 over 10 years is not enough to qualify as a big deal. I don’t believe that the pocket change given as campaign contributions is where the real money is moved. I think the hiring of family and friends, insider tips, and nest eggs through post electoral board positions is where the money is moved. These Pols get very rich. Doesn’t it seem odd that they get so wealthy on a low 6 figure salary?

          • Anonymous

Er…no, I don’t think federal funds for the state is quite the same as campaign money.

I believe this report…she is desperate, resorting to lib style attacks on Perry…he wants to take away your social security and cause your young daughters to be retarded. She is using whatever she can use, Palin’s 0% corporate tax and attacks on crony capitalism, etc… Romney is the same except he knows when to stop…thus far. Still waiting for Palin…

There is a ridiculous claim from Aces and others going around. That Sarah Palin allow Gardasil as an option for parents in Alaska if they choose to allow their kids to take it. Put on the same level as Perry mandating Gardasil, received $28,000 in contribution from Merk, have people from Merk work on his staff! Yea Palin and Perry are corrupt, yea right!

Palin was not even lobbied by Merk! Here is my proof.

Too bad she has taken this turn for the worst.

She wasn’t doing at all well since Perry came aboard.

All the candidates are getting vetted, and some don’t stand up too well under it. MB is one who didn’t and doesn’t.

  • the thing with vaccines is that some question whether it is healthy to inject a new born infant with 24-30 vaccines before the baby becomes 2 years old. the baby doesn’t even a properly functioning immune system. id like to see more research

Perhaps Bachmann should be asking her own state why there was legislation proposed that would require schools to encourage the Gardasil vaccination to parents. She admitted today on Hannity that she had not vetted a woman’s claim that her daughter suffered retardation from the innoculation. This was a bad move on the part of a candidate that is sinking in the polls. More like desparation on Bachmann’s part.

Capitalist75, Palin didn’t mandate Gardasil for Alaskan girls, but she damn sure didn’t mind letting tax payers all across the nation pick up the tab for the program, did she?
“The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services announced today that an increase in federal funding will make it possible for ALL Alaska girls ages 9 through 18 to receive Gardasil, the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, at no cost.”
    6-4-2007 Alaska state website

So Palin didn’t mind letting the rest of us pay for health services for people in Alaska. I don’t consider that “conservative.”

    • Anonymous

The issue is not about making the vaccine available (free or otherwise), but forcing young girls to accept it whether they liked it or not.

      • No it’s not because there was an opt-out so no one was “forcing” young girls to take it whether they liked it or not. When you use such sophistry, you sound like a leftist. Words have meaning for a purpose.

Bachmann is too extreme by far. She IS NOT ELECTIBLE! Her dishonesty of using false rhetoric for her political gain shows a moral deficit that is of concern.

While Perry was wrong in doing what he did, he made it right and fixed it BEFORE anyone had gotten a shot. He clearly listens to the people on issues.

Additionally, Gardasil is safe according to ALL RECORDS that have been kept of the 35 MILLION shots given as of July 2011.
