Senate BLOCKS funding for cancer patients, national parks, veteran’s services and National Guard salaries

I guess Harry Reid really doesn’t want to help cancer patients:

WASHINGTON EXAMINER – Senate Democrats blocked four resolutions to fund government programs, including paying the National Guard and opening national parks, as Republicans offered the limited measures in an attempt to win the government shutdown fight by financing popular programs and leaving those they oppose untouched.

“Unbelievably, today Senate Democrats went on record to oppose funding for National Guard and Reserve salaries, veterans’ services, lifesaving medicine and cures, and national parks and museums,” Senate Republican Conference chairman John Thune, R-S.D., said in a release following the procedural battle.

Thune offered a measure that would ensure the National Guard and Reserve units do not see their pay interrupted, and Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., called for the Senate to fund the National Institutes of Health. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., blocked the measures.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., defended the maneuvers during a press conference Thursday afternoon. “To fund these piecemeal bills would give Ted Cruz a veto power over what is funded and what isn’t,” Schumer said. “We are not going along with that — how could we?”

Just keep putting it up to have them vote it down.

    • Laurel

I agree. Put it up every five minutes if possible!!!! Use absurdity to highlight their absurdity!

    • YES!

  • garyinaz66

this is the oblamer/reid shutdown, exactly what they wanted.

remember, republicans funded everything, but only wanted the same delay oblamer
gave to his corrupt cronies to be given to EVERY American. Americans are
overwhelmingly AGAINST the job/people killing, unaffordable IRS ran obamacare
    trainwreck, but…..

    oblamer/reid etc…do not care.

their egos are so big and fragile they will insisted on shutting down the
govt to punish American citizens because we don’t want the IRS healthcare or the
socialism they love forced upon us.

    • kong1967

Yep, they’re holding parks and children’s treatment for cancer hostage until they get what they want. As Levin pointed out, just imagine what it will be like after Obamacare is implemented. They will hold it hostage as well.

  • Sigelitedark

GOP rook takes Dem bishop, check.

  • Laurel

The ol’ “squeeze em’ till hurts” strategy…aka….Chicago Mob politics.

    • kong1967

If the media actually reports what’s going on and stops the “Republican government shutdown” headlines, Dems will suffer the consequences. I doubt there’s going to be any emphasis on Republicans in Congress passing bills to fund government and the Senate Democrats rejecting them. The parks make me angry, but the NIH makes me downright furious.

      • Laurel

If, if, if…Republicans need to get over the media blockade and find another way to get their message out. Buy some air time if necessary. Web ads, etc.

As to the NIH, I have to be honest in that I am of two minds on it. I don’t like seeing people not get treatment, despite the fact it’s an experiment that has zero guarantees. It’s a long shot in the dark at best. On the other hand I don’t understand why we are funding this crap with tax dollars to begin with. We cannot say we are for smaller government but continually create and fund alphabet agencies. and really this country and it’s future is about more than one person or one cancer patient.

What really ticks me off is using the weakest among us as tools to bludgeon with.

        • kong1967

Good points. I agree with you on the cancer treatment to an extent because it is a shot in the dark with taxpayer money. But, on the other hand, I want to try to help people that are in dire need….especially children. Looking where they spend the rest of our money, I’d say I find this one much less offensive than the norm… studying why prostitutes in China drink alcohol (or whatever the wasted money went to).

I completely agree about using the weakest among us to bludgeon society with. Democrats use everyone they can, which include the poor and the sick. But this one’s on them. Boehner passed a bill to help this girl, Reid rejected it.

          • Laurel

I agree but also be aware that while you say you find NIH spending tax dollars less offensive, some other person will find spending tax dollars on xyz agency less offensive and so on and so forth. that is how we got uncle sam giganticus.

Ironically if we funded this stuff directly without the government interference they would have so much more money and probably more success. Americans are generous people by nature. We make money but despite what the media says it isn’t all consuming to us either. We can and do prioritize. Heck look at all of the money raised privately, often times overnight, for various disasters, etc.

            • kong1967

All very true. We are also the world’s largest donors to catastrophes out of our own pockets….not the government’s (which is still our pocket).

              • Laurel

That’s what I was pointing to actually. We give billions, even trillions overall, to various charities, etc.

Just think what we could do without the government confiscating half at least and in some cases even more to support inefficient alphabet agencies.

                • kong1967

                  Gotcha. 🙂

  • So in their Cruz derangement syndrome, screw the Vets, screw the Guard, Screw the Reserves and screw the people. Do I have it down Chuckie?

    • stage9

I don’t know why, but after reading your post I got an image of Antoine Dodson. Weird. “Hide your kids, hide your wife…e’rybody gettin raped up in here!”

“Screw the Vets, screw the Guard, screw the Reserves, screw the people….e’rybody getin raped up in here!”

      Sorry….I digress. I’ve had caffeine….

Pretty amazing schmuck schumer has slipped up and admitted that this is only about political gamesmanship and has nothing to do with what is right for America. Petty a$$holes playing dangerous petty politics.

  • Longiron

This message of the LIBS blocking all of this has to get out. The RNC, Heritage Foundation “etc”should start running 30 sec advertising on TV & Radio showing REID refusing to fund these. That is political advertising money being put to good use ???

  • PVG

So reid has devolved this into a pissing match…….are all libs petulant children?

    • c4pfan

      Yes, they are petulant children.

    • PhillyCon

Plus, he knows the media will never call him out on it.

    • stage9

Short answer…..yes and much, much more.

  • ApplePie101

Why should government use our taxes to fund medical research? This should be the domain of the free market. National defense is the prime responsibility of federal government. If Washington DC is abdicating this responsibility, then it becomes the responsibility of the second amendment’s ‘well-regulated militia.”

  • phil

has this been reported on any major news agency ?????

    of course not…..

  • Press Watchusa

EVERY time there is a vote down
The GOP should be on the air describing exactly what happened – very politely!
This is called marketing your cause!

They MUST beat the liberals at their own game

    • Sentinel

      You are exactly right… exactly.

  • PhillyCon

It’s about time the Dems taste a little bit of their own medicine.

  • Sentinel

Reid, little dick Durbin, Schumer… is there a more detestable bunch of creeps?

  • stage9

Well the whole world sees who the obstructionist is. Will Pravda report it?

    • badbadlibs

Of course not, even if Pravda finally got a conscience they still wouldn’t report it, else to expose themselves to how wrong they have been.

  • John

To me it would seem that we have the upper hand! Let’s use the Dems tactics and shout to the rooftops that the left doesn’t want to fund National Guard and Reserve salaries, veterans’ services, lifesaving medicine and cures, and national parks and museums!! Give em a little taste of their own medicine so we can prove what snakes they really are!!

  • waffle_anna

Keep it up Ted, use the left’s tactics against them.

  • Dylan Felts

For pure hatefulness and malice, Reid takes instruction from O. They are what many people call a PUTZ.

  • FutureOnePercent

“To fund these piecemeal bills would give Ted Cruz a veto power over what is funded and what isn’t,” Schumer said. “We are not going along with that — how could we?”

Oh my God! What do those Republicans think, that spending and apportionment bills are supposed to originate from the House of Representatives?! Madness I tell you! Pure madness!

..Oh, what’s that? They do? All spending IS supposed to start in the House? Oh… well… they’re still racists.

  • SickofitAll

Its nice to know that the Democrats hate Ted Cruz more than funding the National Guard and Reserve salaries, veterans’ services, lifesaving medicine and cures, and national parks and museums. I thought they are taking great pleasure in all of it, but this confirms it for me. Ozero’s buddies in the Weather Underground hated the military and plotted to kill them. Matter of fact, they didnt learn how to make their bombs they were going to use on the Military Ball attendees correctly and blew up their own house and themselves.

  • LibLoather

These Democrats are on the verge of full meltdown mode. The more unhinged the rhetoric, the more it shows. And the bigger they are, the harder they fall. SMH.

    • clevonlittle

      jihadists , arsonists , extortionists , extremists , terrorists…….and then to insult Dana Bash , yeah , you’re right .

  • Liberals_are_idiots

Did anybody doubt that it is the Dems shutting down government.

Need health care coverage? Just dial 1-800-F**KYO to reach Obamacare

Need health insurance? The Obama administration has you covered. Simply dial 1-800-FUCKYO to reach the next available health-care provider.

Far from being a mistype, that’s the official number that Health and Human Services wants Americans to dial when seeking health care. Obamacare’s national call center really did list its number as 1-800-318-2596, helpfully spelling out President Barack Obama’s tendency to blatantly flip the bird in plain view.

Scoop, might want to check on that bit about National Guard salaries. They’re paid by the States when not on a deployment overseas and I frankly don’t see them being deployed and not getting paid. In any case, I do know that the prez signed a bill 2 hours before midnight authorizing active duty to keep getting paid (I didn’t read further into the memo).

  • 57thunderbird

These fool democraps are playing a chess game and the American people are the pawns. It is time we the people prove to them that we are the sovereign in this nation.Enough of the nonsense!

Death Panels are the in thing nowadays.

  • Dr. Strangelove

The mask and gloves are coming off as Levin predicted. How long before the sheeple see through the sycophant media?

  • colliemum

Shorter Sens Reid/Durbin/Schumer: “we hate Ted Cruz, therefore we’ll punish you, the people (Park Rangers, Vets, NIH, cancer patients).”

Pretty disgusting attitude – they learned it from their ‘overlord’, the POS in the WH.

    • HCTUB

These people ,and others who don’t do the will of the people , and work for themselves should be caned .

      • I’m enjoying my poor eyesight from being tired. I thought you wrote “caned” and I was thinking, “yeah, that sounds pretty good.”
