There have got to be better ways of making traffic lights more conspicuous so that drives ‘look twice’. So really, if that’s what they want us to believe this is about…well, I ain’t buying it:
USA TODAY – Officials in Vienna are hoping new pedestrian crossing lights will make pedestrians and drivers look twice.
Dozens of pedestrian crossing lights in the heart of Vienna, Austria, now feature same-sex couples that turn green for go and red for stop. The couples have hearts floating above their heads or stamped from their chests.
“The campaign is mainly targeted at raising awareness for traffic safety,” Andreas Baur, a press officer for the city of Vienna, told NBC.
Baur said the lights were also changed from the gender-neutral figures to mark the annual Eurovision Song Contest, which has a large LGBTQ following, and an upcoming AIDS charity, Lifeball, in Vienna.
