***UPDATE: Mashup added***

After Obama’s eye-bleed class warfare speech, Speaker Boehner gave a response. I will bring you a short clip of Obama’s speech for comment with a link to the full speech should you want to watch. But until then, here is Boehner’s speech to the American people:

***

UPDATE: Greta put together this little mashup of the Obama/Boehner speeches tonight. It’s surprisingly short and actually pretty awesome:

Great job! Commissions are smoking mirrors and we know it. Stay away from that. We got your back!

i think commissions are smoking somthing else but good point

I believe you mean “smoke AND mirrors”

I would like to think I can trust Boehner and others to do everything they can to stop outrageous government. While I won’t put my trust in any man, I have put my trust fully in the Lord and He has sustained our family through the hardest times we’ve ever had. I do pray though for common sense and Godly Wisdom to prevail in our government.

    • Anonymous

That’s ^^ the only sane response to an insane world.

      • Anonymous

Oh… c-mon AmericanborninCanada… of course you would like MrMicawber’s response… it’s like believing your own press. But having said that, I fully agree with what you say about putting trust in the Lord… so I add one more “like” to MrMicawber.

        • http://no-apologies-round2.blogspot.com/ AmericanborninCanada

I’m not used to having my own press- please forgive me :-)

P.S. I pray for righteousness in government… it probably covers common sense and Godly Wisdom… but I’ll pray for those too.

i figured it out..you see the one is a conservative who was forced to be liberal because of the recession…and yes hell has frozen over too…

The Commission will simply provide cover for both parties to avoid cutting spending (“we have to wait to see what the commission says”) – then, when the commission finally comes out with its recommendations, everyone will ignore it. Pathetic.

  • http://twitter.com/MaroonRepublic Maroon Republic

If it passes, we will have to keep their feet to the fire on those cuts.

Boehner should keep pushing Cut, Cap & Balance; he should go to the American people with it; and make Reid put it back on the schedule with enough time for actual debate.

Obama dug himself deeper. Boehner was without a doubt the one wearing the big boy pants tonight.

O’ angered people more than he can possibly imagine. He be buttery toast with jam. My wife and I were yelling at him on TV. I believe we were joined by tens of millions. Boehner…Salute!!! House newbies…SALUTE!

My only critique would be him talking about “avoiding default”. There will be NO DEFAULT on August 2nd and the GOP would better serve themselves and the people if they started explaining this to people and not use the language that barry and his cohorts use.

  • poljunkie

We liked Speaker Boehner’s response. He came across extremely likable, and very sincere. Speaker Boehner using his small businessman background connection was a great idea and resonated with us, as I am sure it will with others. He clearly exhibits concern for the American people while standing against the Presidents socialist type policies. Frankly, it was the best I have ever seen the Speaker.

Even though I didnt watch the President ( I just cant do it!!-but I did watch clips) It was amazing that straight out of the gate he blamed President Bush. I can’t believe he still feels it is appropriate to say that with a straight face. Obama came across as very frustrasted and nervous.

Was it John Boehner’s small business or his Father’s small business that was….a bar. Yes, Yes, I know running a bar is a technically a business, but if you can’t make money running a bar, you’re an idiot. That’s like Herman Cain ‘turning around’ a pizza chain business after he learned how the federal reserve lending system worked. If you can’t make a business profitable when YOU WERE the monopoly money guy, you’re incompetent.

      • poljunkie

        Location location location.

        • Anonymous

Ah, so Boehner is accustomed to following around after inebriated clients cleaning up their messes. Since he grew up in the business, he’s surely normalized to this behavior in people. Heck he can probably tell how much liquor a 21 year old ‘newbie’ can hold just by sizing him up. And I’m sure after so much time in the business, he has lots of experience identifying when his customers have had too much. He’s had the responsibility, in fact the duty, to ensure his inebriated customers know their limit, don’t drive while intoxicated, and make it home safely. After all, he controls the tap.

What am I thinking? This guy is perfect for guiding our government through this debt binge. Why didn’t he give more details about the expertise he garnered from his small business experience? I’m sure the American people would have been set more at ease knowing that their ‘children’ are in the hands of a capable bar-tender. Such a good role model for the kids too. Like a lemonade stand…..at 8 years old.

          • poljunkie

I get it you dont like him, but in my view, he is a far cry better than our President.
Not sure what you are trying to accomplish here? He’s speaker of the house, not a bar tender. Until he does something to disrespect his position, he has my respect.

            • Anonymous

OK I guess I’m being a little harsh, but the threshold in Ohio is a little higher. The ‘little congressman’ from Ohio, John Kasich, is the guy who was head of the committee that DID balance the budget back in the 90s.
So, you see, the bar is quite high in Ohio…..the expectations are quite high in Ohio. John Kasich is now the governor of Ohio.

The whole legislative experience, executive experience, balancing the federal budget………….
……..it’s like getting after your little brother when he’s not living up to big brother’s performance record……the elephant in the room so-to-speak.

there was a reason Boehner called in Kasich for the golf foursome with Obama and Biden……they needed an experienced adult to chaperone the conversation.

              • poljunkie

                I like Kasich.

The pres. may have had first dibs tonight but lost badly! All of his negativity could have been cut with a knife. He hates every one of us and is coming out on that! If it costs all we have, he wants his way, and if he can guilt most into believing that, he’ll get re-elected! A poorly constucted speech at best, who writes his stuff? high school students?

Interesting read on the potential pitfalls of a poorly written amendment. This is one of the reasons I am concerned about an attempt to amend the constitution under the current politcal environment in Washington.

          • Anonymous

You’re right , No CCB bill is preferable to one so poorly written that it would fall to the courts to legislate. That’s what was sooo wrong about the TARP and Porkulous bills, too hurried, no oversight, and no big picture plan in place, no recovery rules were set up until after Pelosi and Reid had their way. Does anyone even know where the $ went for sure?

Bushe’s fault, scare seniors, fault republicans..(tea party), balanced budget, tax rich, corporate jets…. compromise, compromise, compromise…same speech we have heard many times before. Boehner was good, but I wanted him to be even more forceful and call obummer out even more. Maybe take his shoe off and beat the podium..haha… don’t know, but he was sincere, deliberate and yes, didn’t cry. I wanted more passion, more pi$$ed off.. I am.

  • KenInMontana

One of Boehner’s better responses, he did manage to come across clearly and earnestly without delving into too much political rhetoric. Well done Mr. Speaker, now follow through sir!

    • Anonymous

Boehner used that “The President wouldn’t take yes for an answer” line. I saw a CNN reporter use that line covering Obama’s speech Friday, but directed at Republicans.

      • poljunkie

So, Im guessing you dont like Speaker Boehner then, Po?

        • Anonymous

I’m an Ohio native. I am guilty of voting for the guy who lied to me best. This is Boehner’s ‘trial by fire’. I’ll give him a grade when he gets through this episode with his spine intact.
He does not have the luxury of the newly elected reform candidates. He was in office before the TEA party and jumped in front of the wagon.
I have had 2 TEA party supported Reps in my new state of residence LIE straight to my face. Forgive me my jaded suspicion.

The older I get, the more I see the applicabity of Regan’s expression, “Trust but verify”

Give credit where it’s due, House leader hits all the right points in his rebuttal to Obama. I won’t say exactly the “fire in the belly”, but lately speaker Boehner seemed to find his moral spine, stood up to the president and call his bluff, with the majority American to backing him up and he seems to have a united caucus behind him too. His speech tonight reflected his moral conviction and confidence.

I have to say the Speaker did a really good job tonight. I’ve let him know he has support from me. Encouragement from us is going to be very much needed.

    • Anonymous

Yes, I agree! (I hope the Speaker is not playing us. I don’t trust him 100%. I don’t like him on the golf course with Obama, I just don’t. They can RETIRE and then play golf together. But not now. Too much at stake. What is he (the Speaker) thinking?)

ANYWAY, I don’t care if the President gets on the TV ten times a day, he cannot win this argument. There are too many Republican Governors doing the RIGHT things for their states and it’s working. The Republican Governors are proving that what the Democrats do and have done over and over again does NOT work.

Obama thinks if he just talks enough to us over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, he’ll wear us out and he will win. We’re not scared of the Asian markets, were not scared of the AAA rating, we’re not scared of driving to work, we’re not scared of having babies, we’re not scared of the sky falling, we’re not scared of the sun rising, etc.

      But the one thing…

      WE ARE AFRAID OF IS…

      PRESIDENT OBAMA AND THE PROGRESSIVES.

Glad there was a GOP response because it seems that Obama keeps trying to paint himself as the victim (as always). Mike Lee mentioned in the other clip, that the POTUS is trying to create a “solution” and then force the Congress at the last minute to pass it so that the onus is on Republicans to be responsible for whatever decision is made- Someone needs to remind that maroon that it is the Congress that passes bills and then the POTUS makes the call. He wanted the job, but apparently the shoes are too big to fill and he has to manipulate himself out of his responsibility. He should have never been involved directly in the discussion in the first place.

I will never say Bush was right on everything he did. I will however say that he did, at least, do a better job than Manbearpig Gore, or paper cut Kerry. Truth is when the boat is sinking someone needs to stand up and say “Hey guys we got enough water into the boat… now lets get some out.” At which point the reasonable Politician would stop bailing water into the boat and help get some out. Cause the ship that is America has no real holes we just got some really evil, or crazy passengers.

We can cut entitlement programs and government services. One day the United States could be like Mexico, where a few people have everything and everyone else has nothing.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QWGWKO6ZAXEI22NBBZX32KKJKA Mike

Answer your own questions people. What would happen if your dreams came true and entitlement programs got the axe? All the people who rely on those programs to survive would be homeless and starving. Then what do you think would happen? Think Columbia, or Guatemala

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QWGWKO6ZAXEI22NBBZX32KKJKA Mike

Do you think your neighborhoods would be safe if all the people who barely survive on food stamps were suddenly wandering the streets in search of food? Sure, if you take away social security and medicare and free education, some people will go quietly into the night, but what about all the others who find new ways to make money, like drug cartels. Trust me: what rich people get for paying their taxes is safe society. Why do you think rich people from all over the world come here? Where do you think all the rich people will take their money if our cities started to become unsafe. Hello! They’d leave. Americans and foreigners alike would go somewhere safe. Of course we could round up all the poor people and put them in camps…or jails (they tried that in Germany once, in the 30s, oh wait)
