Shocked? I sure am. I thought they’d just give him a quiet slap on the hand or ignore him altogether. I never expected he’d receive real consequences for leftist tirade:

CAMPUS REFORM – Michigan State administrators have suspended Prof. William Penn for the remainder of the semester, after he was caught on video going on an anti-Republican tirade on the very first day of his literature class.

In an email to students Thursday morning, Dean Karen Wurst of the College of Arts & Letters, cited his “inappropriate, disrespectful and offensive” comments.

“On Aug. 29, during your Literatures, Cultures, Identities course, Professor William Penn made comments he has acknowledged were inappropriate, disrespectful and offensive and may have negatively affected the learning environment,” she wrote. “Once MSU was made aware of the situation the Office of the Provost immediately began a review.”

“As a result, Penn’s duties have been reassigned, and he will not be teaching this semester,” she added. “A new instructor is being assigned to your course.”

Kudos to Michigan State University for protecting the classroom from political intimidation.

    Go Spartans!

  • JohnQueue

Wow…it is pleasing to see the disciplinary action as taken effect so rapidly. I am pleasantly surprised at the outcome…I just wish I could have been in that class to voice my opinion of his opinion..LOL

  • Rshill7

Nanny, nanny, boo boo, stick your head in doo doo, dude :-)

  • Dukehoopsfan

Wow, an astonishing developement from michael moore’s favorite liberal swamp.

  • Desjardins

Bill Ayres, and Bernadine Dohrn will hire him to write textbooks.

  • fireme

    Will he still get paid?

  • fireme

He will be back next semester.

  • http://www.rightsightings.com RightSightingsGuy

He’s probably still going to get paid, which in itself is a travesty.

  • stage9

Never fear! He’ll be back! They ALWAYS return… Universities never get rid of their resident liberals, they just wait until the dust settles and then slide him quietly back into the classroom…
    See?:

  • Orangeone

Wow, yes I’m surprised and glad.  Maybe, just maybe the power of social media had a tiny little piece of this outcome.  Thankfully the student recorded the tirade!

  • The Sentinel

Interesting to see “Political Correctness” work FOR conservatives for once.
This guy should still be fired. He’s unfit to provide unbiased curriculum to the student population.

  • The Sentinel

    stage9
That’s why I correctly equate liberals to herpes.

  • nibblesyble

Awesome! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

“Michigan State administrators have suspended Prof. William Penn for the remainder of the semester,”
    In other words,
‘You got caught. Now, take a little time off (with pay) and we will figure out how to censor cell phones in the classroom’.

  • nibblesyble

tinlizzieowner Exactly, next semester all the students will have to hand over their cell phones due to the new ‘policy’

  • Desjardins

Sounds like he’s to the right of Obama and Holder.

  • Stehekin912

Suspended with full pay and benefits, probably.

  • Stehekin912

and have him hired into their university

  • Laurel A

This is why you fight back any way you can.

  • Laurel A

Stehekin912 Probably but step one is taken and a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

  • Laurel A

stage9 So next stop is to push for reform on tenure.

  • Orangeone

nibblesyble tinlizzieowner Likely won’t wait until next semester, watch for the new “policy” any day now.

  • njmom

It will definitely send a message especially if other universities follow suit. Who knows maybe our kids would get an education instead of an indoctrination?

  • Netmilsmom

Michigan is conservative, accept for the big cities and Ann Arbor.  This “Professor” probably never traveled 20 miles outside of the campus and thought everyone was like him.  I would bet some big money Alumni called the Dean.  Once the bad PR dies down, this Prof will be right back.

  • http://nation.foxnews.com/ sallyjohanna

Thank you MSU, for the glimmer of hope that decisions of sanity in our universities still exist!  It is an appreciated surprise!
I would prefer he be fired, that would be the correct action.  Please do not make this a temporary until the heat is off we will bring him back situation.

  • RappinMc

Dukehoopsfan For the record, the disgusting fat ass Michael Moore is a Uof M Flint alumnus, not a Spartan. As for liberal swamps, until we threaten their endowments, most institutions of higher indoctrination will continue to ooze their fetid puss into society. Same for their worthless Wymyn’s studies and Communist Organizing graduates. While MSU is infested with their fair share of libtard lemmings, there exists a growing conservative contingent. Hopefully their numbers will continue to swell as they detach from the BORG.

  • BlacknTexas

Now is that suspended with or without pay.  Hopefully the later, otherwise he really really isn’t being penalized.

  • JenniferGranholm

    Is this suspension with pay?
Is this just the beginning of the process or the place keeper for the status quo?
He has no place on campus.

But I am afraid this is no different than an Obama scandal. He will probably get a promotion and a raise out of it.

  • elaguardia86

Thank God! If I was a student in his class I would be so happy that I didn’t have to drop that credit just because my professor was a jackass (to say the least).

  • Dukehoopsfan

RappinMc Dukehoopsfan I based my MSU assumption on pictures of the fat guy wearing a spartans cap.  Glad to hear some folks in Michigan are coming to their senses.

  • kong1967

It was a good move, but they only suspended him for one semester, and his duties are reassigned….to what?  Janitor?
When he comes back I hope he learned his lesson and doesn’t try to indoctrinate the kids in a class that has nothing to do with politics.  However, there are plenty of ways to spew propaganda without bashing the other side.  He will probably still try to influence them.

  • kong1967

JenniferGranholm  It said his duties have been reassigned, so I’d imagine he’s still working and getting paid.  The note also said that he was suspended for one semester, which to me means he will be back teaching the class next semester.  Otherwise they would have said he was no longer a teacher and was fired.

  • kong1967

BlacknTexas  His duties were “reassigned”, so he’s probably still working and getting paid.

  • kong1967

    Netmilsmom  …next semester.

  • kong1967

njmom  I seriously doubt it.  I’ve seen plenty of videos of teachers getting busted doing this.  They usually get a slap on the wrist and nothing ever changes (with colleges in general).

  • kong1967

    Laurel A  I don’t have fingernails.  :(

  • BetseyRoss

kong1967 njmom Having a relative go through this process I can tell you nothing will happen.  They don’t even get a slap on the wrist.  She didn’t press the issue.  This was a HS and she has two more to get through.  She is getting a reputation, but has begun to organize some other parents who are experiencing this with many teachers.  I don’t know what will happen as she also teaches in the same system.  It will be interesting.  BTW this is supposedly a conservative area and the schools are considered ‘good’.   She does have to reteach when the kids come home.

  • lawngreen

“Penn’s duties have been reassigned, and he will not be teaching this semester.” They did NOT remove him. They merely removed him from the classroom. They’re protecting him. Not teaching >>>this semester<<<.
He’ll be back in a semester or two. Maybe he’ll sing a different tune, but I doubt it.

  • Desjardins

    Any relation to Sean?

  • kong1967

BetseyRoss  This is what happens when liberal government takes over our school system.  It’s pathetic.  They can’t get people to come to their side by having the better argument.  They have to indoctrinate and give things away.

  • Las1

When liberal institutions discipline conservatives, they fire them, or at the very least assign them to “anger” management workshops.
However when liberal institutions discipline fellow liberals, the offending professor will be assigned to a re-education workshop on how to propagandize and indoctrinate with more subtlety.

  • SheerPolitics

lawngreen   If he’s tenured (and I’ll bet he is) it’d been near impossible to remove him. We need to get rid of tenure in these publicly owned schools.

  • lawngreen

SheerPolitics lawngreen Amen to that. There’s no excuse for tenure.
I take that back. I’m sure there are several standard excuses for tenure. But there is no reason for tenure.

  • battletop2

What do his opening statements to this class have to do with “creative writing?” A “professor,” bullying students on the first day of class, on a topic irrelevant to the synopsis, reflects the principles of the institution. For them to avoid immediate dismissal is shameful.

  • Laurel A

    kong1967 Laurel A LOL!

Now he can work full time for his first love: the Taliban.

  • kimber1911

Suspended is temporary.. This man should be Fired That means FOREVER.

  • 12grace

I’m glad Michigan State suspended him. However, I think he should have been fired.

  • K-Bob

    I keep repeating this:
    Two words: home college
Teach your kid a trade. Make sure they get jobs working for fair but tough bosses. Forget the pay. Get the experience.
If they want a degree: Send them to a community college for all the basics, and only then, after they know what they want to specialize in, and they’ve proven they can ge the ‘A’, should they bother with a university.
Alternatively, send them to a private college, like Hillsdale or Ave Maria.

  • yazz55

I see this as only temporarily removing one little needle from the massively large haystack.  The haystack of liberal progressive extremist indoctrinators at colleges and universities is still intact.
The little needle is to be replaced on the haystack once things quiet down a bit.

  • SallySmith

Obama supporters will go hysterical over this well sourced list of 252 examples of his lying, lawbreaking, corruption, cronyism, etc.  http://danfromsquirrelhill.wordpress.com/2013/08/15/obama-252/

  • screamingnickel

I read the article, looked up the school and sent them an email.  The school needs to know that this antic has received national attention and they need to receive feedback.  I’m not saying my email was great.  I’m just saying I sent one.  Here it is:
I can’t imagine having a professor spouting such a hateful diatribe on the first day of his Creative Writing class will do much to increase alum donations to the University or to increasing enrollment numbers.  The video of his first day even levels threats against those that disagree with him.  Nice.  I’m sure parents are most eager to dump their hard earned dollars into their children’s educations knowing they will be browbeat and brainwashed by an award winner.
Just in case you missed his intro to his class here is the link:

    Sincerely,

  • applepie101

I, I, I, me, me, me…as well as being a bigot, this professor is narcissistic bore.

  • applepie101

He could as justifiably be dismissed for incompetence. A teacher of creative writing has to be able to inspire and invigorate his students, as well as help them expand their thinking. This man was using expensive class time to gripe and whine about politics.

  • Dr. Strangelove

Oops. He broke the liberal 11th commandment: Thou shalt not get caught.

  • Dr. Strangelove

Desjardins Maybe, but certainly not the founder of Pennsylvania.

  • ConservativeFromHell

One think the Republicans do well in Michigan is nominate and support the election of conservative as Trustees to the University Boards.  We have some good conservatives at both State and U of M.

Talk the Truth about Obama and his Progressive Democrats! Show people that Obama’s vision of giant nanny state, socialism creates a ridiculously large and well off government but the people are stripped of all prosperity, hope and decency.  Nothing the world has ever seen produces like capitalism and the free market, a fair chance for all to live as they see fit. We should embrace our freedom and fight O@Dems with everything we got. Just saying.  Obama is anti- American, for pete’s sake, face it!

  • http://rightwing.us/ joehorton21

The only way you can say our educational system is successful is by the fact they have successfully created Demonrat voters till the age of 30.
At least, they’d think that is a success.
