Team Hillary decided NOT to show strong support for Israel to keep Democrat base happy

Team Hillary went back and forth over the idea of showing strong support for Israel at public events, but ultimately decided not to so as not to upset the base.

What they did allow instead was for Hillary to show support for Israel among fundraisers in PRIVATE:

NY POST – Communications adviser Mandy Grunwald pushed back. After pointing out the remarks were for “public events not fundraisers,” Grunwald asked, “Do we need Israel etc for that?”

“We def need the etc. I think good to have Israel too,” Sullivan, who worked for Clinton at the State Department, replied.

“Why would we call out Israel in public events now?” pollster Joel Benenson replied.

“She was Secretary of State,” Sullivan said, suggesting that foreign policy was an issue she should be addressing in public.

But it appears Robby Mook, Clinton’s campaign manager, overruled Sullivan.

“I’m w Joel. We shouldn’t have Israel at public events. Especially dem activists,” Mook replied.

Finally, Sullivan relented: “I won’t fall on sword over Israel but we need more than climate in that paragraph.”

Speechwriter Dan Schwerin offered a compromise. “[S]he can drop in Israel when she’s with donors,” he said.

“I’m fine w that,” Mook replied.

It shouldn’t be this hard. Israel is the only western ally we have in the Middle East and our closest friend. For Hillary to have to tiptoe on the subject of Israel just shows how far left the Democratic Party has become.
