Eaaaaaaarly this morning Ted Cruz weighed in on Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court, Judge Kavanaugh, with a series of tweets.
As you might expect, he fully supports Kavanaugh and predicts that Democrats won’t be successful in their attempts to derail the nomination:
By any measure, Judge Kavanaugh is one of the most respected federal judges in the country and I look forward to supporting his nomination to the Supreme Court of the United States. #SCOTUS —> https://t.co/wXsS3xQ2f4— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) July 10, 2018
For over a decade, Judge Kavanaugh has served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, often referred to as the second highest court in the land.— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) July 10, 2018
He has over 300 published opinions, with a strong record of defending the #SecondAmendment, safeguarding the separation of powers, reining in the unchecked power of federal agencies, and preserving our precious religious liberties.— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) July 10, 2018
Senate Democrats, sadly, will try to demagogue this nomination, but they will not be successful. I am confident that the Senate will take up his nomination quickly & I expect that he will be confirmed before the first Monday in October, the beginning of the Supreme Court’s Term.— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) July 10, 2018
As a member of @senjudiciary, I look forward to his confirmation hearing, where Judge Kavanaugh will have the opportunity to demonstrate to the American people that he will uphold the rule of law and interpret the Constitution according to its original meaning. #SCOTUS— Senator Ted Cruz (@SenTedCruz) July 10, 2018
Mark Levin also weighed in with a more skeptical take, saying he would keep an open mind while encouraging Senate conservatives to grill Kavanaugh to ensure he is what they claim he is….a textualist:
He’s clearly not thrilled with Kavanaugh but I believe he will do as he says and keep and open mind while hoping for the best.
