Ted Cruz going to meet with Kim Davis today; Christie disagrees….

Ted Cruz won’t be at Huckabee’s rally today, but will be visiting with Kim Davis in jail this afternoon to show his support:

YAHOO NEWS – Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is heading to a Kentucky jail to support the county clerk imprisoned for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.

Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier says the Texas senator will meet with Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis on Tuesday afternoon. Another Republican presidential hopeful, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, had previously announced plans to meet with Davis Tuesday.

Frazier says Cruz won’t attend an afternoon rally with Huckabee and other Davis supporters outside the Carter County Detention Center where Davis is being held.

Meanwhile Christie says Republicans shouldn’t be grandstanding on this issue and gives his take on what should be done with Davis:

WASHINGTON TIMES – New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Tuesday that Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who was jailed over her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, should be moved to another job in government where her religious objections wouldn’t come into play.

Mr. Christie said first off, the country must be protective of religious liberty and that the Constitution has to be protected.

“People have a right to practice their religion,” the 2016 GOP presidential contender said on “Fox and Friends.” “Now, I’ve said what I would do with this woman is to move her to another job where this is not an objection for her. Because you have to follow the law.”

“And the law has to be these licenses have to be issued,” he said. “If she has a religious objection, we should move her to another job inside the government.”

And what if she refuses to go?

“Well, you know, then there’s going to be an issue,” he said. “But I think we should give her an option to do another job where her religious concerns are not [going to] be put into the crosshairs on this. And so we have to have respect for people, but … the government also has to function.”

How does one move an elected official to another job? What kind of solution is that? Only the voters can impeach Kim Davis so I’m not sure what Christie is talking about here.

What I think he’s really saying is the same thing Fiorina said, that Davis must do her job or suffer the consequences. So at the end of the day Christie would have Davis thrown in jail just as she is now and that’s the bottom line.
