Ted Cruz: I believe a Republican president will sign Obamacare repeal in 2017

Ted Cruz spoke to CNS News about repealing Obamacare, saying he would absolutely support repealing it with 51 votes in the Senate. He said if it can be passed with reconciliation it can be repealed with reconciliation.

But he also said something quite revealing:

“I believe in 2017 a Republican president will sign legislation repealing every word of Obamacare.”

That tells me he now has little or no hope that Obamacare will be repealed before 2017, which I think most of you agree with or at least expect. But it’s a far cry from the Senator who was arguing to defund Obamacare 2 years ago when Republicans only had the House.

I don’t think, however, that his statement is a reflection of his will to repeal Obamacare. After all, he did just introduce a repeal bill. I think it’s more of a reflection on the fact that there is really no campaign or movement by the leadership to get Democrats on board to repeal Obamacare.

And that stinks in my opinion. And it means he is probably right about 2017.

On the flip side, it does show he is optimistic about our chances in 2016.
