Ted Cruz gave a short press conference a few moments ago in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he plainly said that one of the most important conclusions coming out of the first two early states is that he’s the only one who can beat Donald Trump.
Cruz is clearly casting the election at this point as a two-man race between he and The Donald, pointing out that the other candidates simply unable to beat Trump.
Cruz goes on to explain how to beat Trump, pointing out establishment candidates can’t beat him from the left, noting that simply isn’t going to work. Cruz says the only way to beat Trump that is to highlight the simple truth of his record, that it is NOT conservative.
Cruz also said something very similar on the Mike Gallagher show this morning, courtesy of Buzzfeed:
“South Carolina historically has played a critical role picking presidents. And I think Iowa and New Hampshire perform an incredibly important function in narrowing the field and in many ways this field is becoming a two-person race between me and Donald Trump,” the Texas senator said on the Mike Gallagher Show Wednesday. “What Iowa and New Hampshire demonstrate is that the only person in this field who can beat Donald Trump is me. The other candidates are not able to beat Donald Trump.”
