This morning Ted Cruz was asked about Trump’s big 12 billion bailout of farmers caught in the cross-fire of Trump’s trade war:
Cruz said that Trump raising tariffs is a mistake, noting the single biggest concern among Texas farmers is the direction we’re going on trade. He says a trade war is a dangerous place to be:
“Getting in a trade war and shutting down our ability to export our crops and our livestock and our manufactured goods – I think that is a dangerous place to be.”
When asked specifically on the 12 billion in bailouts for farmers, Cruz admitted he sees that as a mistake as well:
“I’m reminded of what Reagan said: If something moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it. The answer should not be government aid. It should be allowing farmers and ranchers to sell their goods.
It was a very brief interview so there wasn’t any more time for Cruz to expound further. But this is pretty much what I expected to hear from Ted Cruz, who always sticks to his conservative principles.
