The list of 23 Executive Orders Obama will sign to stop massacres…or something

Here is the full list of the 23 executive actions that are apart of Obama’s gun-control initiatives (via Business Insider)
Gun Violence Reduction Executive Actions
Today, the President is announcing that he and the Administration will:
  1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
  2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
  3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
  4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
  5. Propose rule making to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
  6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
  7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
  8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
  9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
  10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
  11. Nominate an ATF director.
  12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
  13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
  14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
  15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
  16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
  17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
  18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
  19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
  20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
  21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
  22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
  23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

      Bill Clinton was impeached. I don’t recall it actually affecting him in the slightest. In fact, I think most people don’t even realize he was impeached. Why do we think impeaching Obama will be any different?

      • The senate never convicted him. House impeaches, if the Senate convicts (which is unlikely given it’s current makeup) the president is thrown out of office.

          Actually, I don’t think the Senate has to convict. I think the Senate only enforces, but you’re right in that the Senate just chose to not enforce the impeachment. As a matter of record, Clinton’s impeachment does stand in the history books (proper ones, anyway); once you’re impeached, you’re impeached. The problem is without cooperation of both Houses of Congress AND the Department of Justice, you can essentially do little with any impeachment other than send a message … but that’s where I believe a message should be sent EVERY TIME a President violates the Constitution. Force those asterisks to be put next to their name in every history book. That’s the least we can do.

Granted, some may see that as inconsequential in the scope of things, but until we actually start taking some kind of action against the boy-king, we’re allowing the Imperial Presidency to continue unabated.

Say the boy-king requires a psychological evaluation as a necessary component of gun ownership — that means the government has a psychiatric case file on you — where does it stop? Cars can kill; are we looking at a step in that direction, too? A psych eval as part of car ownership? This goes all the way to a psych eval as a necessary component of ObamaCare! That’s the slope we’re on, folks, and, as we’re in the minority, we’re destined to lose this fight.

            I think it’s a great idea. I for one do not have a problem with this SO LONG AS the parameters of “mental illness” are clearly defined and the rules are NOT VAGUE, AND if the person is CLEARED of mental illness by a medical professional can be given a pass if the doctor deems it appropriate.

            The one thing the government is good at is leaving GAPING HOLES in laws so that they can grandfather in further restrictions later. You either define the parameters or kill the idea altogether.

        • We have a conservative radio personality who moved back from living up north. He said that happened to his kid and he told his kid to say just that. Then the doctor brought it up to him and they changed doctors. I thought that was a great idea: It gave the kid an answer that was not a lie and he got a heads up about what was going on.

          This is basically a tact taken out of the Communist and Nazi playbooks of getting kids to inform on their parents.

        My point was that a lot of this is so vague that it could apply to ANY group. We already know that the Justice Department is in possession of a list of suspected “hate groups” and have defined extremist elements that are NOT in fact “extremists”.

        Why would it then be unreasonable to question the vagueness of the list posted above?

        It’s quite reasonable. And since I live by the tried and true philosophy: NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, EVER TRUST A LIBERAL, I question the validity of much of this list.

        Not really. I’ve honestly been saying for years that, politically, folks like you and me, steprock, are in the minority. I felt the tide a’changin’ back in the late 90’s when I was working in medical billing management. It seemed very clear the direction we were heading, but, when you told people (like Rush still points out today), you’re told “you’re exaggerating, you don’t know what you’re talking about, etc.” … and here we are.

            Plus, we’re already flat broke, and neither the Democrats nor the Republicans really seem to care.

            I’d encourage everyone to understand that the WAshington elite on both sides of the aisle are essentially no different that the entitlement majority as the bottom of the pay scale. The elite are just as interested in preserving the state of affairs as are those folks who make their livelihood by sponging off the taxpayers. They’re two sides of the same coin. To both of those classes, you and I don’t matter — we’re exactly what makes THEIR livelihood possible, and they’re both fighting tooth and nail to preserve it.

                On the freeway about 5 years ago, an unmarked car was tailing me at about 85-88…sort of freaking me out. I would speed up….so would he. Went on for about 10 miles. This was on a pretty vacant stretch, anyway eventually he turned on a red light and pulled me over.

                In my defense ….(Still polite) I said, Mr Officer, the car was unmarked, the freeway was deserted, I didnt know who you were…following me, for so long…
                Didnt matter. He wrote me the ticket for 88. Which meant I had to go to court (Anything over 85 here requires a court appearance)…which was on the other side of his Jurisdiction… …3 hours away.

                I freaked myself out about the appearance thinking it was going to be a big deal, but the day I went – it was like a revolving door- there must have been 500 people – one long line….Walk up to the judge…he would hit the gavel and tell you your fee.

                Thankfully he didnt write it for 90- or it would have been reckless driving.

                  Yep, our system of government and courts is broken but there are still some sane, normal, logical folks who work in these systems and when you’re VERY lucky you will run into one or two along the journey of life.

                  The police and FIRE DEPARTMENT who make the emergency calls, have my sincere gratitude. Often times they step in to a situation not knowing what awaits.

                  The guys who race to the scene, or come to the house when you dial 9-1-1 or the local Fire/police guys that come to my mom house when she panics and dials for help- They are awesome.

                  I see them all the time at the market. Buy them coffee.

                  Its the ones that write the speeding tickets that are meanies.

                  There are natural born A-holes who are unable to ever change but I always try to remember that they are just people too and if the cop happened to have an argument with the wife or got an audit from the IRS, he may be a dick when he pulls you over and it has nothing to do with you.

                  I try to remember that life can be a beeatch and you never know what the person your interacting with has just dealt with. I’ve found most cops to be fair and kind with the inevitable exception.

      Yeah, don’t hold your breath. Many doctors believe socialized medicine is a good thing. Just ask them how many patients they see who are on either a state-sponsored program and/or Medicare itself, and they won’t want to give that income up. In fact, the point many doctors make (and, yes, I’ve talked to probably two dozen on this matter when I worked in medical billing) is that once we’re a fully socialized country that means that the rates of payment will necessarily HAVE to go up despite my evidence to the contrary.

      I could go on and on and on about how monitoring the payment policies of insurance companies over the last ten to fifteen years showed we were heading this way, but, alas, it is what it is.

    Why is it called an “act?” Because it’s an official, declared, “Act of Congress.” I.E., a unique power held by congress, which the President shares in no way, whatsoever, other than the ability to sign it into “Law”, or veto the act.

    Nothing in the Constitution give the president power to declare a law does not mean what it says. He has exactly two options: enforce the law as written, or do not enforce it. That’s it. If he chooses not to enforce the law, he can be impeached. (I’m guessing he can also be found by congress to be “in contempt,” but I don’t know the rules about that.)

    So, the good homeowners needs to by another gun and mags. so that they can have their children reload the clips and rack the other gun while mom is shooting the intruder(s). Lest, after the fact, she is jailed for possession of a 16 round clip and charged with a felony.

We still have a border wide open, unresolved issues on Benghazi, Iran going nuclear, unemployment at record levels for years, etc….. do we REALLY need these silly Executive Orders that accomplish nothing?

A self appointed aristocracy set itself up and proceeded to disarm the public, by stealth tactics – nobody reading bills, objections summarily dismissed with platitudes, the usual lying with statistics. They get away with it here for the same reasons.
    It is now clear that what Feinstein wants is the same as what the Brits have been doing since about 1902, and she believes the same “philosophy”. Nadler’s statement that he believes “the state should have the monopoly on use of force” is that philosophy. It overthrows popular sovereignty and replaces it with aristocratic sovereignty. Obviously Bloomberg buys it, and so does Schumer. Cuomo just implements it. Frankly I am less concerned with their ideas than their tactics and strategies. We need to know where politicians stand on Nadler’s statement, and why and where do they get this unconstitutional garbage from. Force the issue. Don’t be a day late and a dollar short.

      Congress doesn’t care, Eleanor. I came to that conclusion some time ago, and the re-election of Boehner to the Speaker position clarified for me that all those GOP conservatives? Only when they talk – never when they act. We’re on our own out here. Nobody in Washington cares about us.

  • So what exact health issues will prevent some from getting a gun? that is an entire can of worms in itself everyone is failing to recognize. So somebody with once diagnosed with situational anxiety, that will pop up on their background and then no gun? what degree of mental illness will they not allow to purchase? will other things in our medical records be used to dictate gun purchases such as a history of cancer since some can metetasize to the brain causing lack of conscience thought and violent outburst)? Will all of our health records eventually be released with a background check? oh yes, that will make people want to seek treatment for mental illnesses… And I don’t know about everyone else, but my medical records are not employers business, you know… if that is now in background checks. How would that effect employment? And doctors having to ask if you own a gun? so what happens if you do? You get reported and put on some type of registry? Ever have emotional problems and get reported because you have previously said you owned a gun? Some of this, fine… Whatever. But some of this is opening up flood gates for more problems, anger, joblessness, lives, and so forth. Not.Effing.Cool.

  • $4 Billion to add 15,000 policemen across the nation means we spend over $250K per officer for a year, or over $50K per officer per year over a 5 year period.

    That’s also only one officer for every 20,000 people in the USA, using 300 million as the population total.

    We’re in a financial crisis and they want to spend more? We treat one crisis by fixing it, but don’t bother fixing the other crisis?!

      Not to mention all those pension that have to be paid. I don’t know how it is in other states, but in California police officers can retire at 50 with 90% of their highest salary per year for the rest of their life. Once they retire, they can go work for another government agency and collect a full salary.

    I live in California so I am used to this stuff happening…the liberals are always up to no good here. What the rest of you are experiencing today has been happening in my state for decades. The virus of liberalism is spreading like a bad case of anal warts and we are screwed unless the Republicans in Congress get their act together.

    I wonder, should every citizen, 18 years and older be armed? Every voter required to get training? I cannot be dogmatic and claim I know the answers. I just wonder where some would draw the line, rocket launchers and I am being serious because there are a few of those out there. I also understand that this is also good business. Arms made by American companies are sold to those who would kill Americans, they want to make money. Propaganda is being spread by both sides. If there is a line to be drawn, who decides what it is?

    There are a lot of conspiracy theories, they said George Bush was going to make himself a dictator, now it is Obama. There can never be a dictator here, Obama can’t even get all of his cabinet appointments through, the state would not allow it and if it could it would not be a black man.

    I think something is in our water because people have gone nuts.
