“This is exactly what happened with ObamaCare” – Sessions says to vote NO on cloture because no one has read it

The big day is here. Whoever votes to for cloture tonight, to end debate, is voting FOR the immigration reform bill. I don’t care how they vote on the final bill. THIS is the vote that counts and this is the vote we will remind them of as we primary them:

THE HILL – Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) said his colleagues should not vote Monday to end debate on a major border security amendment to the immigration reform bill because “no one has read” it.

“A yes vote on cloture tonight means that Sen. Reid will have gained full control of the process,” Sessions said, referring to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). “Senators have to play Mother May I.”

Sessions argued that Reid would be able to block any amendment votes he doesn’t want to take once cloture is invoked. Sessions complained that since the “border surge” amendment was filed Friday afternoon, senators haven’t had enough time to review the changes made in the more than 1,000 page bill.

“This is exactly what happened with ObamaCare,” Sessions said. “The majority rushed through a complex bill so there would be no time to understand what’s in it.”

Later Monday, the Senate will vote on whether to end debate on a substitute amendment from Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.). His amendment included the “border surge” language from GOP Sens. Bob Corker (Tenn.) and John Hoeven (N.D.), which requires 700 miles of Southern border fencing and hiring 20,000 more border patrol agent among other things before immigrants can apply for green cards.

THE HILL

As a reminder, here is the results from our poll the other day on how you thought Rubio would vote tonight:

For the record, I voted ‘no’. Call me an eternal optimist if you must.

The “border surge” language …. from the Republicans …. with the White House having its full team on hand to meet with Republican Senators …. as they met in a back room. Really?
Senator Sessions is right …. don’t “Pelosi” the bill.

    • Orangeone

John_Frank Perhaps she should give her friend Gov Jan Brewer a call.

    • SpikeT

John_Frank Bogart the Bill…until it’s “stoned” cold with a toe tag.

  • PapaLouie

“This is exactly what happened with ObamaCare,” Sessions said. “The majority rushed through a complex bill so there would be no time to understand what’s in it.”
Of course they’re planning to pull the same old tricks they always use. Why wouldn’t they think we’re fools; we elected them, didn’t we?

    • lawngreen

PapaLouie   I no longer believe that they were elected. I think there was a show, but the outcome was rigged in enough cases to give us the present anti-American, anti-freedom, anti-justice bunch of muslim-appeasing, yellow-bellied moneysuckers we are cursed with.

  • stage9

I love it. The ENTIRE Senate and the ENTIRE House and none of them can stop little ole Harry Reid from reeking havoc!
What the HECK are these cowards so afraid of???

    • kong1967

      stage9  Their own shadows.

    • Bac Si68

stage9 Big Brother, the NSA, and Valerie Jarret.

    • bahamianhoosier

stage9 I wish Dingy Harry was 1/2 of 1/3 of the US….Oh my left leg for a real Speaker!!

  • kong1967

Oh, but we have to pass it so we can find out what’s in it, as Pelosi would say.  I hear there’s a provision in the bill to limit the punishment of illegals who commit crimes to a lesser level than that of Americans who commit the same crime.   There’s also the part where Napolitano can kill the building of the fence any time she wants.
So, tell me, Rubio…..there was already a bill passed to build a fence.  Yet, it wasn’t built.  There are already laws to deal with illegals.  Yet, they aren’t enforced.  But, somehow, you expect us to believe that if you rehash the same laws and/or make them tougher that somehow they will finally be enforced?  HA HA HA !!  How stupid do you think we are?  If you believe that these laws will be enforced, that makes you the moron for not looking at history.

    • Orangeone

kong1967 There is full amnesty for any crimes they have committed, including sexual assault and child molestation if they have not been CONVICTED by the date the pos signs it.  So the current ones held for raping our children will be released

      • kong1967

Orangeone Are you freaking kidding me?  Why would anyone put this in the bill?  And then why would anyone vote for this piece of crap?

        • Orangeone

kong1967 Orangeone First you have to read it. There’s also pork for NV casinos in the bill for Harry Reid!

        • kong1967

Orangeone  Of course.  Always some fat for the pigs.

      • lawngreen

Orangeone kong1967  When the law fails….

  • “Whoever votes to for cloture tonight, to end debate, is voting FOR the immigration reform bill.”

AND IS A DAMN TRAITOR TO THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA!  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr!

  • billmcdowe1

So granting amnesty will increase the hispanic vote for Republicans? Really? When Reagan passed the amnesty bill during his last term, the % of hispanic votes in his prior presidential election was a higher percentage than the % of hispanic voters who voted the following election for George HW Bush. So what did the Republicans learn from granting that anmesty? If they vote for cloture, then oh so very little.

  • The Sentinel

And just to be clear… anyone who votes for this monstrosity… should be targeted for retirement and voted out in the next election. ANYONE who supports this is unfit to be in their position.

  • tinlizzieowner

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) said his colleagues should not vote Monday
to end debate on a major border security amendment to the immigration
reform bill because “no one has read” it.
And just what do our (so called) ‘paid representatives’ do for a living if it isn’t reading the bills they vote for or against? Short of packing their bags for the 4th of July vacation, that is.
New rule you don’t go on vacation and you don’t get paid until you do what we elect and pay you to do.

    • K-Bob

tinlizzieowner They shouldn’t be allowed to leave DC until they have passed a test on whwther or not they have read it.
Mmmmmm.  DC in July and August. Hot, hot, hot! And muggy.

      • stage9

K-Bob tinlizzieowner …or whether they can even read at all!

      • lawngreen

K-Bob tinlizzieowner Chain them to their desks. Turn off the AC; it’s “not green”. And no Freecell on their computers.

      • doofuschmartz

        Oh well…burn, baby burn…

  • tinlizzieowner

It’s time for ‘Fundamental Transformation’ in Congress all right. It’s time to ‘fundamentally transform’ Congress into something that works. Starting with term limits and sending all those ‘politicians-for-life’ home to try to find real jobs.

    • CarolynDixon

tinlizzieowner senators can serve 1 term of 6 years and house members 2 terms of 2 years for 4 years.

  • njmom

This bill betrays every American by placing those who have not earned citizenship on the same level as those who have come legally and those of us who are born and bred Americans. Any senator who votes for this bill has violated their oath of office and must be removed.

  • doofuschmartz

I cannot see a single upside for the American people that voting for this thing could possibly mean. All of the unskilled labor force would wind up relocating, by and large, in the border states…like Texas, where we already have more than our fair share of illegal aliens (yes, I know that is politically incorrect. Ask me if I give a rat’s rearend). The ones who do come here for gainful employment, and to build a better life for themselves and their families are so few and far between as to be negligible. So, the only ones who benefit are the politicians and the wealthy who exploit them for cheap labor and then the hard-working American taxpayers who have to pay for their welfare and health care benefits…No matter how they dress it up, It’s a lose/lose for us…

    • Bac Si68

doofuschmartz Its every State.  They just seem to stay congregate in larger numbers by border states.

  • mickeyco

Now there’s a novel idea. Don’t sign something until you’ve read it. Wow.

    • tinlizzieowner

      mickeyco
The only thing Pelosi reads are the insider trading reports on her tuna fish dynasty.

  • Jim1904

Hey Hey Ho Ho Marco Rino has got to go.

I’m being a bit more cautious and including a few who, like the co-sponsors of the Corker plan, will probably vote for the immigration bill, but should be called anyway. Call them and tell them to oppose the Corker amendment (yes, tell Bob Corker) and to oppose the immigration legislation.

PVG HEY ALL- don’t bother calling Sen. Isakson’s number as his voice mail is full.  He is too busy to take calls from the “Serfs” or little people like us. No more RINOS in RED states! Blue states, we need to get what we can. But Lindsay Graham (My God SC- such a great stat, just 70 miles away, and no onee can challenge Lindsay? what about begging MS. Sanford to run- the smart, honest one in the family). Too many others, but why are we following the “BS Immigration Bill” when one was defeated in Congress and the Repb’s took the house and picked up 6 Senate seats?” Lazy ppl will always vote Dem; ppl with aspirations will mostly vote Repb.

  • lawngreen

ALIPAC (Americans for Legal Immigration) emailed supporters a list of Senators they consider open to influence by phone calls, emails, etc. I’d post it but it’s awfully long. You can find it here: http://www.alipac.us/f8/senator-joins-us-against-amnesty-bill-your-calls-working-hours-remain-281763/ but it’s posted in a vertical column about four letters wide. No kidding. I copied it and pasted it into a Wordpad document, whereupon it behaved itself normally, then started emailing. I reached most, though some addresses are not valid. This is the message I snet. Copy, modify, as you please, if you please:
“I strongly urge Senator _______ to do everything in his/her  power to stop or slow votes on the illegal alien Amnesty bill S. 744! Regardless of all other considerations, a vote in support of S. 744 is deadly to America. I will not forget, and I will not accept excuses for a vote in support of S. 744. I absolutely reject the premise that the Corker-Hoeven Amendment will “fix” the bill. There is no immigration bill that I will even consider until AFTER the border has been secured, and not secured to suit Janet Napolitano, either. “Secured” means no more illegals crossing the border. Period. End of discussion. The Senate has no right to rush S. 744 through with the Corker-Hoeven amendment when nobody has had time to read the bill and decipher what it really does. If Senator _______ votes on S. 744 without having read it first, or votes in support of it, I will remember this in the next elections. Stop trying to rush an illegal alien Amnesty bill into law!”
