Tom Cotton responded today to criticism that repealing the Obamacare individual mandate would raise premiums and therefore would negate tax cuts.

Cotton points out that repealing the most hated portion of Obamacare would mean people simply don’t get fined by the IRS for choosing not to purchase healthcare. He insists that everyone who wants Obamacare can still get it.
When asked about insurers raising premiums because their pool of clients would potentially be sicker, Cotton pointed out that the entire reason premiums are so high now is because of Obamacare, and that must be addressed by Congress. He said he hopes Congress is about to repeal it next year even though they failed this year.
