Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, told CNN this morning that Mike Pence should have called David Duke deplorable so he wouldn’t get bad headlines:
Now to be honest I’m not sure how serious she is here. If she really is being serious and believes now that Pence should have called Duke deplorable so that the headlines wouldn’t say ‘Mike Pence refuses to call David Duke deplorable’, then she’s not as smart as I thought. Because if Pence had done it the media would have run the headline ‘Pence agrees with Hillary that some Trump fans are deplorable’, or at least something like that, and it would have been a disaster for the campaign during a week which has been a disaster for Hillary.
If she’s not being serious and is trying to be more tongue in cheek, maybe taking a swipe at the media, then she needs to be more intentional about that so there isn’t any confusion about her intent.
