Trump: Middle East would be better off with Saddam Hussein, Gadhafi in power

Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper yesterday that the Middle would be better off with Saddam Hussein Moammar Gadhafi in power:

It’s a sad fact, but most of the countries in the Middle East, minus Israel, just aren’t cut out for Jeffersonian-style democracies. Trump is correct when he asserts that the Middle East would be a better place with Hussein and Gadhafi still in power. And truly, even with his close relationship with Iran, Syria is better with Assad in power than going the way of Libya or Iraq.

We all witnessed the so-called ‘Arab Spring’, which only results in the Muslim Brotherhood taking power after dictators are overthrown. Egypt got lucky, that their military was able to come to the rescue of the country before the Muslim Brotherhood could sink it’s claws too far in. Libya hasn’t been so lucky, as they have become a haven for at least five different terrorist groups fighting what little government exists there.

We know what happened in Iraq, and the truth is it would be more stable if Hussein was still in power. It was necessary to dismantle his WMD infrastructure, but taking him completely out of power was a mistake in my opinion, as it has led to Iran becoming a much greater power. Even though we had won the war in Iraq, the installation of a democratic government there was doomed to fail as it quickly did when Obama pulled out and basically gave the country to Iran.

So this is one area in which I agree with Trump on and wish the other candidates would state this as clearly as he has.
