Trump now promising a 3.5% growth rate, but what did he say before?

Today in his big economic speech, Trump said that his economic plan would yield an average 3.5% growth rate over 10 years:

Now that’s certainly better than the Obama average which is below 2%, but what did Trump say about his plan before?

This is what he said back in September of 2015:

Asked about the economic growth he expected his plan to generate, Mr. Trump responded: “We are looking at a 3% but we think it could be 5 [percent] or even 6 [percent]. We are going to have growth that will be tremendous.”

TREMENDOUS!

In an interview with Matt Lauer later that month, Trump didn’t get into specifics, but said:

“The economy is going to expand tremendously, like it hasn’t since Reagan but probably even before that. This will be a rocket ship for the economy.”

It took Reagan a couple of years to get out from under Carter’s horrible growth rates, but when he did had very strong years. In 1983 Regain hit almost 8% growth and in the two subsequent it fell only to 5.6% and 4.2%. And that was with a Democratic congress!

Looking at all of Reagan’s years, he averaged 3.6%, but remember that includes the first 2 years that were dismal because of Carter.

What Trump should be able to do with a potential Republican Congress should be even better than Reagan and I would hope that his average would be far more than 3.5%.
