UGH: Senate panel votes to authorize Syria strike

Warmonger McCain is such a pain in the butt of America. He wouldn’t vote for the resolution unless it ensured “that any U.S. military operations in Syria are part of a broader strategy to change the momentum on the battlefield in Syria.” He wants the US to ensure that the Muslim Brotherhood, a terrorist groups, wins the civil war and takes power in Syria. So he got his way and now the resolution has passed committee.

We have no business interfering in this civil war, much less trying to help terrorists win. And if our troops end up on the ground in Syria, it will be McCain’s fault, among others.

FOX NEWS – President Obama cleared his first hurdle on Wednesday in his push for a military strike in Syria, as a key Senate panel voted to authorize the use of force.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted 10-7, with one senator voting present, to approve a military strike in response to a deadly chemical weapons attack last month. The full Senate is expected to vote on the measure next week.

The vote came after Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., raised objections to an earlier draft. The objections forced lawmakers to renegotiate the measure; McCain ultimately won tougher language clarifying that U.S. policy would be aimed at changing the momentum on the ground. He was among the 10 who voted for the final resolution, after getting two amendments added.

“These amendments are vital to ensuring that any U.S. military operations in Syria are part of a broader strategy to change the momentum on the battlefield in Syria,” McCain said in a statement afterward. “That strategy must degrade the military capabilities of the Assad regime while upgrading the military capabilities of moderate Syrian opposition forces. These amendments would put the Congress on the record that this is the policy of the United States, as President Obama has assured me it is.”

The resolution specifically would permit Obama to order a limited military mission against Syria, as long as it doesn’t exceed 90 days and involves no American troops on the ground for combat operations. The Democratic chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Sen. Bob Menendez, and the panel’s top Republican, Sen. Bob Corker, crafted the resolution.

The vote was nevertheless close. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who voted against the measure, said he remains “unconvinced that the use of force proposed here will work.”

“The only thing that will prevent Assad from using chemical weapons in the future is for the Syrian people to remove him from power,” he said.

  • kong1967

What do they think is going to happen after the Muslim Brotherhood wins the civil war because of our help?  He supports the democracy minded rebels but they are an extreme minority in the war.  Most of it is Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood.  That minority is going to have as much say in the new government as I have on what clothes Michelle Obama wears on a daily basis.
Did McCain have his eyes closed throughout the reign of Morsi in Egypt?  The Muslim Brotherhood will repeat what they did in Egypt.  Christians will be slaughtered and all of these idiots will be silent.
What is their answer to that?  Has anyone heard what McCain believes is going to happen after Assad is toppled?  He’s such a freaking idiot !!

kong1967 They have no answers.  I think the whole Congress has lost its collective mind.  I see this as one huge calamity for us and every politician in power that is not screaming their heads off over this.  That’s 4 altogether.  Maybe it will encourage people to start looking at Mark Levin’s Liberty Amendments.  We need to fast track now.

BetseyRoss  I’m not sure how most of Congress feels, but we know the Republican elites are pushing for more than what Obama is asking for.  Maybe that’s why he went to Congress.
We’ll see how everyone feels when they vote on it.  Unbelievable that almost all the calls to Washington are opposed to this and they are giving us the middle finger.

Obama: “We need to take the moral high ground here”.
Really Barry? You mean like another Democratic President did with a ‘chemical weapon’ called
estimates 400,000 people were killed or maimed, and 500,000 children born with as a result of its use. That doesn’t even count those of us American troops who were (and are), life members of the ‘Agent Orange Health Club’.
‘Oh but that was just a defoliant, that wasn’t a ‘weapon of mass destruction’.
Really? Go down to Ace Hardware, buy a bottle of ‘Round Up’ and take a bath in it for 6 months and watch what happens. Think I don’t know what I’m talking about? The C-123’s in my outfit (the 315th Air Div.) were part of ‘Operation Ranch Hand’, the guys who were spraying the stuff.

Take your self righteous ‘moral high ground’ Sh*t and stuff it up your A$$!

kong1967 Do not think Russia and China will sit idly. Especially for Russia, Syria is very vital for their influence. Obozo will lead us to WW3 if this foolishness goes on any longer…

  • toongoon

I went to Mark Kirk’s facebook page there are over 1000 comments from people telling him to vote no on Syria. That isn’t even counting his posts on unrelated items where people are telling him to vote no even more. Not one comment in support of it.
He is evidently proud that he is going one of players in the start of WWIII.

  • 12grace

But the O administration wants our attention to be on international law being broken, between our enemies, on the other side of the planet.
Which series of ‘law breaking’ should We The People of the USA be more concerned with?    /s
I want the criminals destroying our Constitutional Republic prosecuted.    Let the United Nations deal with international lawbreaking among our enemies.

  • boats48

Sorry, McCain is right in one respect! Before we engage in any military action, we should have clearly defined objectives! Obama doesn’t have a plan. Planning is not his “style”! This is all a show anyway, since Obama is not going to pay attention to any Senate panel directives. He changes laws at will, why would he obey or adhere to the Senate’s demands? All he wants is a scapegoat for when this debacle crashes!

  • It’s beginning to look a lot like Iraq all over again. It’s just amazing that Obama and Kerry are now making the exact same arguments that Bush and Cheney made in Iraq. Can’t we just sit this one out and let the Muslims kill each other like they’ve been doing for centuries? You just know things are bad when even the British don’t want to have anything to do with Syria. If nobody wants to get involved in Syria (except Iran and Russia), why should we? Time to stay home for once.

  • applepie101

Instead of arming Syrian rebels or other embryonic terrorist organizations, the US should hand out AR-15s to every man and woman in the country, and leave them to take care of themselves. There’d be an rise in civility if each guerrilla knew he could be taken out by any civilian at any time.

  • applepie101

Maybe on 9/11 they will launch a few cruise missiles or fly a few sorties for Al Qaeda in commemoration. It would be quite fitting of a government looking to subjugate/destroy us.

When one congressman is reporting calls running 498-2 against involvement in Syria, the likelihood of Obama getting approval is remote.  If the Congress goes against the American people in support of the Muslim-In-Chief for intervention in Syria, the Congress can kiss reelection goodbye.
