Va. students assigned opposition research on GOP candidates

This is unbelievable. According to the Daily Caller, a civics middle school teacher in Virginia broke his class into 4 groups, one for each GOP candidate, and then asked them to not only do opposition research, but to develop a strategy paper on how to exploit those weaknesses and then forward their findings to the Obama campaign. Seriously.

The 8th grade students, who attend Liberty Middle School in Fairfax County, were required to seek out the vulnerabilities of Republican presidential hopefuls and forward them to the Obama campaign.

“This assignment was just creepy beyond belief — like something out of East Germany during the Cold War,” one frustrated father, who asked for his family to remain anonymous, told The Daily Caller.

The assignment was for students to research the backgrounds and positions of each of the GOP candidates for president and find “weaknesses” in them, the parent explained. From there, students were to prepare a strategy paper to exploit those weaknesses and then to send their suggestions to the Obama campaign.

Liberty teacher Michael Denman, who declined to comment, unveiled the assignment in mid-January when he broke the Civics Honor’s class into four groups, one for each Republican candidate. The students were then to collaborate as a group and research the backgrounds of their assigned candidate.

Denman assigned two kids to write a paper revealing the identified “weaknesses,” two to write the attack strategy paper and two others to locate an individual inside the Obama campaign to whom they could send the information.

“My classmates don’t actually know a lot, but a few of us tended to agree that the most recent instruction on this project just didn’t seem right,” one of the students told TheDC. “Mr. Denman didn’t tell us where to find the information, just to research on them.”

As a result, the school received multiple phone calls from parents frustrated with the political nature of the assignment, the father told TheDC.

“I was shocked that a school teacher would so blatantly politicize the curriculum of a middle school classroom,” the parent said. “I asked [my child] if a similar assignment had been handed out to examine the background and positions of President Obama to see if the teacher was at least being bipartisan.”

No similar assignment was given to research Obama’s history, identify his weaknesses or pass them along to the Republican candidates.

    Little double agents like madrasas.

  • 12grace

One more reason to get your kids out of public school.

The children are being forced to dig their own graves by helping communist obama get back into office.

What do the parents of these children think about this leftist project?

    • MiketheMarine

      “Yes we can”

      {sarcasm off}

  • Arrrggghhh

They need to change their name to Tyranny Middle School.

  • denbren52

The so-called public schools have been turned into government-run indoctrination centers where children are brainwashed into believing that everything they are taught about in Sunday school and at home is false.

It is time for education to be massively transformed into a voucher system for ALL students. A system that allows all parents to choose what schools their children will attend. How many would choose the failing government-run option if given a choice?

In the meantime, homeschool your children!

    • MiketheMarine

In fact, once I’ve started my own business I will not hire any college grads. None.

      • sDee

They get to them long before high school Mike, and most of the damage is done before college.

Regardless, I would love the see the 10 questions on your employment application 😀

        • MiketheMarine

Would it be wrong if my first question was, “Did you or any immediate family member vote for Maobama?”

          • sDee

            well that would simply things….

“If you answered ‘Yes’ to Question 1, please skip to the last page to sign and submit your application”

  • NYGino

Indoctrination in it’s most blatant form. The ‘teacher’ should be fired.

    • MiketheMarine

      And flogged in public.

    • Sadly, this makes too much sense. It will never happen. Maybe some paid leave until it blows over and we get back on to our busy lives, until the next blow up, and repeat.

  • As conservative as I am, as dangerous to the country as I think liberalism is, I cannot imagine trying to force my politics on other people’s 4th graders. If my kid came home with an assignment like that, I’d have a fit.

That said, I am happy to ‘indoctrinate’ my own kids and I glad to report that I have done a pretty good job.

    • Sober_Thinking

It’s okay if YOU do it… you’re their parent. But when the government does it – especially if they push garbage that you don’t believe in, then it’s child abuse and tyranny.

  • MiketheMarine

When I was in school I would have done the assignment on Maobama and if I received a failing grade on it would have contacted my local news organization. I remember when kids (me) had a mind of my own and resisted most told to me by adults (yuck) and teachers especially. Little automatons are useless. Can we please explode the Dept. of Ed. now?

    • Amy

Critical thinking is not conducive to their end goals. LOL

  • kim

Isn’t the Fairfax district heralded as one of the “top” districts in the country? Well now we know what that means!

    • sDee

      You’ve got that right!

Our kids went to one of the “top ten” high schools in the country. It was a big battle for years between a few parents and teachers, although most parents were clueless. We had support of the principal but eventually the leftists strong armed the school board to run the principal out.

It is insidious – to get the money you play by the Feds’ rules. You play by the rules, you get the “grade”. The Department of Education is pure far left central control – it needs to be completed abolished. Let the States keep their citizens’ money and do with it what they want

  • sDee

Tyrannical regimes always secure control over education, energy and healthcare first. This is why.

Never been any different in history. The Founders were the architects of the greatest leap in the history of mankind – in 100 pages or less.

Free Americans have turned their fate over to an electorate of ignorant fools and natural slaves.

    • Sober_Thinking

Seriously, I am humbled by some of your comments. Brilliant!

      • sDee

Thank you. There is a lot to be said for sober thinking!

  • johnos2112

How about the teacher divide the students up and talk about these four categories: How has Obama done in energy, economy, cutting spending and balancing the budget.

    • Sober_Thinking

In a sane world, that would make sense.

If we win in November and in 2016, then we can assign sensible and relevant activities like that as a teachable moment about what NOT to do.

  • Sober_Thinking

If you push 18 grandmothers over a cliff…

  • Sober_Thinking

Sorry, this guy should be fired. He also should get national attention for child abuse.

This sort of indoctrination is outrageous and I’m sick to death of the leftist loons getting away with this BS.

    Fire him then expose him.

  • Another reason to get rid of federally funded public schools. If one believes that this would never happen in their public school, they will be bamboozled.

Yesterday it was having kids read to dogs, another time school does not have time to teach US History. How much more, parents, are you going to allow others to dictate the terms of your children’s education?

Parents, we are the only ones responsible for the education of our children. It is time we start taking it more seriously.

    • wodiej

I don’t have any kids but if I did I would be down at that school raising hell.

  • Yeah, that’s pretty weird. That teacher should get a stern talking to.

    • sDee

Ah yes… he/she surely acted on their own. Nothing here to see. Move along folks.

      • Yes, because obviously the Obama campaign outsourced their opposition research to middle schoolers in Virginia. Or maybe they just wanted to build loyalty among 20 non-voting 13 year olds in a nation of 370,000,000.

That makes a lot of sense.

        • MiketheMarine

Right, it couldn’t be dictated by the Unions maobama supports with MY tax dollars. The same unions that won’t hire a conservative and in many places in the country won’t hire a Christian or a white.

        • sDee

You know fully well it is not about is not about using the kids labor. I suspect you are aware I know that is not what this is about as well. The teacher nor the Hussein campaign will never even look at the the information. It will be thrown into the dumpster.

The goal here is simple. Indoctrination. How much control can they exert, how far, how fast and how much are parents willing to accept.

This is Autocratic Control 101. The basics. Get to the children. It is why we have a Federal Department of Education. It serves no other purpose.

In NC our governor accepted a big Federal education grant from Hussein’s DoEd on the condition that we stop teaching early US History in our high school. Nothing wrong with that you would say except…WHY? Erasing the most essential and fundamental part of US History, is important….Marx taught his students well the importance of erasing a nation’s history.

So the only significant debate here is why someone like you suggests we dismiss something as dangerous and obvious as this. I figure a) you fully understand and appreciate the Progressive goals of central government indoctrination and are trying to convince others it is foolish paranoia, b) you naively think it does not exist.

I am going with a) because if it was b) you would be listening, reading, and trying to understand soft tyranny.

  • NJK

Jimmy Carter started the Dept. of Education to indoctrinate children into communism. Mark Levin said when he worked for Ronald Reagan they found Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals that they were giving to Vista Workers. They found boxes of them. This is sick stuff. The Dept. of Indoctrination needs to be shut down.

  • NYGino

  • wodiej

This indoctrination has been escalating since Jimmy Carter because too many parents have given over the raising of their own kids. What kind of parent does that? From the moment that child is conceived, a parent is obligated and responsible to nurture and take care of it. Their own wants and needs are secondary. Parents will let their kids get obese eating junk food because they are too busy or lazy to bother cooking them a meal. Parents will let their kids have a cell phone which they then use to text and talk on all the time. Parents buy their kids X boxes, playstations, video games and computers to get them out of their hair while they watch reality shows and sports. There is little family time, little accountability for their actions and no decent role model in the home. So who is to blame? The parents are. They let it happen.

    • Amy

What kind of parent does that?

The same kind of parent who sends their kids to school with homework undone, notes unread & still in the backpack, no breakfast and tired. I worked for about 5 years as tech support in the school system. The condition these kids come to school in isn’t conducive to learning. The kids who excelled all had parents who were involved in their kid’s lives. The ones who fell behind and were trouble makers mostly had parents who felt it was the school’s responsibility to make sure their child was learning, well behaved & properly cared for.

I will say, though, that we do enjoy our Xbox and laptops in our family (I’d go nuts without my tekkie gadgets!!). It’s just that as parents, we have always monitored what’s going on. The laptops are all in the main living areas & the Xbox is hooked to the main TV. It’s about moderation and making sure there are other activities pushed as well. 😉

      • MiketheMarine

        When I was a kid I was huge into sports. The kind of sports where only the winning team took home a trophy. It built teamwork, work ethic, a desire to be better and the knowledge that only practice and dedication can make you the best at anything. I didn’t have time for no stinking phones or games. We have since communized sports so even this type of story is finished. They have to play the kid who doesn’t want to be there and the hacks who never practice and don’t care still get trophies. Why should a kid work for anything. We need things to be FAIR. crazy;

        • Amy

Ah, yes… the participation tropies. LOL It’s funny, but my kids only wanted to display the trophies/awards that they actually had earned. The others went into their sock drawers – by their own choice…

          • MiketheMarine

A microcosm of what our country is becoming. An entire country of participation trophies. You’ve nailed it, Amy.

  • So now the Obama team is relying on 8th graders?

    • NYGino

      Can’t get ’em too young.

  • Coralchristie

Our public schools are now “indoctrination stations”.

  • hermsmd

“And don’t forget to tell your parents that your money is due by the end of the week for your Red Pioneer Ties! Make sure to make the check payable to the Virginia Teachers’ Union. Oh…I almost forgot! Remember, extra credit for ways to organize a protest against Roger Ailes is worth 100 points! Hop to it!”

  • libertyandtyranny

How about teaching them about the constitution???!! Our schools are run by marxists.

    • MiketheMarine

      Novel idea.

    • sDee

When our son was taking Constitutional Law in law school he said that they did not teach the principles and purpose of the Constitution. They only taught Constitutional case law.

  • Outrageous! I’m just glad that I don’t have children in the public school system now.

  • Most conservatives would be happy to send their kids to a school that they like, and let liberals do the same (school vouchers).

Liberals want to send their kids to a school that they like, and they want to send your kids to a school that they like, too (public schools).

That is one of the most fundamental differences between liberals and conservatives.

  • virginiagentleman1

Teachers who are ‘political activists’ are a danger to the well being and mental health of our children and grandchildren. They have crossed the line from mentor, into programing (or brainwashing if you prefer), and yes, into recruiters for the marxist utopia this administration is hell-bound to achieve.
I can remember simular assignments way back when I was in school. We did pretty much what the teacher/activist in this story asked of his students. It was fun, informative, and was the basis for my evolving political, historical, constitutional and general knowledge as to how and why government works.
There is a vital difference between the t/a featured in the story vs the nonpolitical, honorable mentors of my youth. They didn’t send our papers anywhere but home with us! They wanted a full investigation of EVERY side of EVERY candidate.

It seems that the teachers and mentors of my youth thought their job was how to get the student to think for himself/herself!!!! I know! How crazy is THAT!!

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not lumping all teachers into one mold. Most of the teachers I’ve known over the years are apolitical when teaching the kids. Many are mentors. They take their role of imparting knowledge and wisdom seriously. They do not shill for a marxist ideaology or other political ideaology.
Instead they teach the Declaration, Bill of Rights and the Constitution. They insist that the kids make up their own minds, form their own individual opinions and views. It’s the way most HONORABLE teachers do it.

Folks like Michael Denman should not have any access to our kids. What he is doing is moraly and ethicly wrong and harmful to our most innocent, our children!

    • sDee

You have a far more optimistic outlook on teachers than I do. Thier unions are corrupt, their school boards have abdicated to the Federal Government and the vast majority of new teachers are the product of a far left Progressive university system.

In 2010 our county voted out the progressive left wing majority in our school board. It has been incrediblly hard for the new Board to make any changes but we are ending racial busing and going back to neighborhood schools. The media, unions, DOJ and NAACP are strong arming these school board members and local busniess leaders.

We MUST abolish the Federal Department of Education and remove the power of the left wing teacher unions. There will be far far more money available for teaching, teachers will be better off, and we might have a chance at reversing 40 years of damage and indoctrination.

      • WordsFailMe

s— You’ve captured the core of the issue once again. Bravo!

  • kong1967

Uh, this is a gross betrayal of the parents and it’s abusing the kids. They are not Obama’s little forced minions. This is B.S. and the teacher should be fired.

  • 911Infidel

That’ pathetic. When I was going to school, you couldn’t tell what political party my teachers were members of. They would discuss the issues, then make the students defend the opposite view, like a lawyer might do for a defendent in court.

That forced each student to analyze an issue with facts and present those facts in a convincing way to the rest of the class. If you failed to back up your case with facts, you got a poor grade or you got an “F”.

Each student left school with the ability to analyze any topic. Today, students get only one side of an arguement, which means they are just parrots of the left. They are walking, talking automotons, who have been properly absorbed into the leftist borg.

Parents need to check out the TP that passes for text books in their children’s backpacks, and engage them in conversation that is in opposition to the garbage that spews out of their teachers pie holes on a daily basis. Teach your children well, and they will have a hard time being sucked into the mindless void that is the left.
