This is a really good interview with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, as he explains how the National Guard deployment will work on the border. As I suggested in the title, it’s probably not exactly what you were thinking:
Abbott explains that governors on the border will still be in charge of the National Guard being deployed to the border, however they will be working in conjunction with the president and Homeland Security.
Abbott also points out, later in the clip, that the Guard won’t be on the front lines of the border. Rather they will be doing other functions that are normally done by the border patrol, freeing up many more border patrol agents to put back on the front lines. Abbott believes this will make a serious dent in keeping the drug cartels and coyotes from bringing people across the border.
The governor praised Trump over the weekend for signing a new executive order that dismantles Obama’s ‘catch and release’. That, of course, means they will need more beds for illegals and more judges to process them.
There’s much more in the video so be sure and watch it.
